Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 391: Chapter 60: Traveling with a Hippo

The smoked fish was finished at night.

Chen Wen stored the smoked fish in the food area and ate one in passing.

The taste of Tilapia was indeed not bad.

This was the best fish Chen Wen had eaten since the start of this survival experience.

It made Chen Wen feel quite emotional.

No wonder there is no mention of eating tigerfish in the country, nor are there many crocodiles.

Besides being expensive and protected by the state, probably the flavor is also a significant reason.

If you don’t believe it, look at the Tilapia.

This fish is being studied in the country on how to eat it and how to raise it for higher yields.

Truly, comparing fish to fish can drive a fish mad.

Chen Wen thought.

At the same time, he also acquired the Tilapia entries.

[Targeted intervention on natural creation — Tilapia, plundering in progress!]

[Plundering... Plundering complete!]

[Please choose one of the following three options]

[Tropical Fish (Blue): You are not suited for survival in lower temperature environments]

[Note: Tropical fish must live in the tropics! — Tilapia]

[Low Oxygen Tolerance (Blue): You can endure environments with relatively low oxygen, the specific endurance limit depends on your physical fitness]

[Note: Fish crowding together may be safer but there’s less oxygen to breathe, thus we can endure thinner oxygen — Tilapia]

[Dorsal Fin (Tilapia) (Blue): You have gained a new body part — a dorsal fin that allows you to move freely in water. Note: Organ entry, you can choose to enable or disable this entry, your body adjusts to the new organ, and the new organ adapts to your body]

[Note: Swim, swim~ — Tilapia]

[Please make a selection or forfeit within one minute! If delayed, the first entry will be automatically chosen!]

After consideration, Chen Wen chose the Low Oxygen Tolerance entry from the Tilapia options.

The Dorsal Fin (Tilapia) entry seemed a bit useless for Chen Wen.

As a human, Chen Wen didn’t think he would live in the water for long periods.

And for short-term swimming, Chen Wen believed in his own swimming skills.

There was no need for external aids.

As for the Low Oxygen Tolerance entry, it was the first time Chen Wen encountered this type of entry.

He wanted to try out its effects.

But after choosing, Chen Wen didn’t feel much of a difference.

It seems it only activates in low oxygen environments.

Chen Wen shook his head and stopped thinking about it.

After dinner, he went to rest, gathering his strength.

...

Meanwhile, in the wilderness not far from Chen Wen.

Feng Zhong carefully hid behind a leeward slope, listening to the roars of the beasts outside.

”In a place like this, the best place to spend the night is a shelter, next is up in the trees, and the worst is like my situation, spending the night on a boundless plain.”

Feng Zhong sighed and said to the camera, ”Today I was greedy, walked two more kilometers, which caused me to miss the last patch of forest, so tonight I’ll have to make do here for the night, hopefully, the beasts will ignore my scent.”

”But as long as I make it through tonight, I feel by tomorrow, I’ll be able to find my teammate Chen Wen and survive with him.”

With that said, Feng Zhong closed one eye, leaving the other half-open, awaiting dawn.

...

Early the next morning.

As he wanted to check if the trap caught Yoshikawa Feng this time, Chen Wen woke up early.

This time he carefully selected the items to bring.

A drone, a spear, an axe, a water bottle, and some food.

In addition, Chen Wen intentionally brought Brad’s clothes, planning to see if there was a chance to eliminate Yoshikawa Feng.

Extinguish the fire, preserve the embers.

After finishing the camp chores, Chen Wen jumped down from the tree.

”Camp work is very important, everyone please do not neglect it.”

Chen Wen didn’t stop talking: ”Many times, what you see in survival videos seems like the survivors do not maintain the camp, this is because camp work is quite boring and tedious, directors won’t waste time on this aspect, but they are indispensable.”

”Building a shelter is hard, so we must especially cherish it and do a good job maintaining the shelter.”

”Take my survival schedule for instance, every morning the first thing I do is check the camp’s situation, especially the bonfire, the food storage area, and the surrounding environment, these three things are the lifeline of survival.”

”Then I go to fetch water.”

Chen Wen said while holding a pot: ”Some might wonder, can’t you fetch water anytime? Why must it be done in the morning?”

”It’s actually quite simple, in the morning, we haven’t started other work, and can focus on fetching water. By late morning or afternoon, if we go hunting or making tools, we might forget about fetching water, and if we wait until we are thirsty it’s a bit late, so many survivors prefer fetching water in the morning.”

”Then we start the daily routine, today we are going to find Yoshikawa Feng, so later we will head out directly.”

Said, Chen Wen jogged to the riverbank.

He fetched water and explained the situation to the hippo.

The hippo decided to come along this time.

Last time the hippo was recovering, Chen Wen let it rest, and today the hippo looked much more vigorous.

Chen Wen decided to bring the hippo along to keep it from getting bored at home.

So, after putting the pot back at the camp.

Chen Wen returned to the riverbank, planning to ride the hippo along the water route to Yoshikawa Feng’s side.

...

After riding the hippo for about a kilometer, Chen Wen was amazed to find that the hippo seemed unable to swim.

”I must say, your way of moving in the water is quite unique.”

Chen Wen said.

The hippo traveled mostly in shallow areas while carrying Chen Wen, which he hadn’t noticed before, but today he paid attention.

It seemed that the hippo’s mode of moving in the water was walking, or rather bouncing.

Each time it moved, it would let its body sink first until its legs touched the bottom.

Once touching the bottom, it would push hard against the riverbed to spring its body up.

The whole body bounced forward like a ball.

The hippo lifted its head in confusion, seemingly unsure of what was so peculiar.

Seeing this, Chen Wen’s playful urge arose.

He wanted to teach the hippo to swim.

But this idea quickly died as Chen Wen realized the hippo’s physique was simply not swim-capable.

The stout little legs seemed only suited for this unique way of progression.

The hippo’s manner of moving wasn’t fast, slower than its speed on land.

But it was a bit faster than Chen Wen walking on land.

Moreover, the hippo’s movement didn’t require detours.

Many animals actually avoided the hippo.

Aside from other hippo groups, which the hippo deliberately avoided, it ignored everything else except African elephants.

Even the lion pride Chen Wen saw by the water last time was ignored.

The hippo passed in front of them without a care.

The male lion crouched by the riverbank, looking at the strange combination of Chen Wen and the hippo, deeply puzzled.

But it didn’t have any thoughts about it.

Whether it was the hippo or Chen Wen with the axe, it couldn’t provoke either.

Traveling unhindered.

Chen Wen quickly reached the swamp area he had traversed previously.

Once there, Chen Wen instructed the hippo to stop.

”Take a rest in the water, I’ll go up and have a look.”

Chen Wen said.

The hippo obediently halted, resting submerged in the water.

While Chen Wen carried the spear, swimming towards the swamp.

Last time, not catching what seemed to be an African side-necked turtle made Chen Wen quite dissatisfied.

This time, since passing by, Chen Wen wanted to try again.

After all, African side-necked turtles are communal animals, and with some luck, catching one or two.

Chen Wen planned to keep them, to see if he could obtain entries.
