Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 392: Chapter 61: Encounter

Today’s sunshine is quite nice.

An African tortoise crawls along the marsh’s waterway and into the reeds.

Using the gaps between the reeds.

The tortoise hides its figure while basking in the sun.

Basking in the sun, what a delightful thing!

The tortoise thought so.

And this delightful thing can only be enjoyed for a while.

In a few days.

As the sun grows bigger, the river water will gradually disappear.

And to survive, the tortoises will burrow into the deepest layer of mud to hibernate.

To get through the drought.

Darkness without daylight, how could it be as comfortable as now?

As the tortoise was thinking, it suddenly heard some strange sounds.

It raised its head and glanced around.

The reeds, although providing cover, also blocked its view.

At this moment, just about three meters away from the tortoise.

Chen Wen crouched low, almost kneeling in the mud.

Utilizing the skill of [Walking on Flat Ground], he easily approached the tortoise.

Chen Wen could also feel the effects of [Walking on Flat Ground].

This attribute was like a lubricant applied to his legs.

Every time he stepped in and lifted his foot from the mud, the mud slid off like it was lubricated.

The influence of the mud was indeed reduced, but it also made Chen Wen a bit troubled.

Because the sound was louder.

Sighing, after getting close to the tortoise.

Chen Wen opted for a half-kneeling approach, gradually moving closer.

He had already spotted the tortoise through the gaps between the reeds.

Taking a deep breath, Chen Wen activated the high body temperature state, triggering the effect of [Temperature Variation].

Simultaneously, Chen Wen focused his attention.

Using [Hide], he consistently adjusted his line of sight, ensuring he stayed within the tortoise’s blind spot.

Approaching once more.

The tortoise sensed something was amiss.

Just as it was about to lift its leg to escape.

Chen Wen launched a sudden attack.

The stealth attack of an African bullfrog, the night shadow ability of a Canadian lynx, and [Swift] all triggered simultaneously.

The triple speed-up made Chen Wen’s body shoot out like a bullet.

And the bullet’s target was the escaping tortoise.

Plop!

With the squelching sound of mud, Chen Wen grabbed the tortoise, toppling over with it into the mud.

A large swath of reeds bent under Chen Wen’s weight, but he didn’t have time to look at them.

Chen Wen pulled his hand out of the mud, holding a lively African tortoise that was curled up in his hand.

”Success!”

Delighted, Chen Wen showed the tortoise to the camera: ”Look, a very standard tortoise.”

”By the way, if you look closely, the name of the tortoise comes from its unique way of curling up. Their necks can’t fully retract into their shells, so when they encounter danger, they sideways their heads as much as possible to keep them within the shell’s protective range.”

”Hehe, how interesting.”

Chen Wen stood up, holding the tortoise.

However, he didn’t find any more tortoises nearby.

Even though he noticed many traces left by the tortoises.

Well, one is enough; tortoises are quite docile, easy to keep, and easy to tame.

Maybe just one can earn an attribute.

Chen Wen secured the tortoise, then walked out of the marsh.

He washed his mud-stained body and clothes in the water, and also cleaned the dirty tortoise.

”You’ll have to be content in my backpack for now.”

Saying this, Chen Wen filled the backpack’s compartment with some water to make it wetter and more suitable for the tortoise to rest.

His backpack was a very professional outdoor backpack.

Each compartment was individually waterproof.

Then, placing the tortoise inside, he slightly opened the compartment’s zipper.

The tortoise couldn’t escape, nor would it suffocate.

After securing the tortoise, Chen Wen headed towards the hippo.

Continuing forward.

...

Meanwhile.

Yoshikawa Feng, somewhat disappointed, returned to the camp.

After setting up a new deer trap yesterday, he felt a bit on edge.

So early today, without doing anything else.

Yoshikawa Feng couldn’t wait to check the traps.

But to his disappointment, none of the three traps were triggered.

”Perhaps they were set up for too short a time, better to check tomorrow.”

Yoshikawa Feng comforted himself.

After regaining his mood, Yoshikawa Feng started working at the camp.

He cleaned up the hygiene, reinforced the shelter’s looseness, and checked for food spoilage issues.

After finishing these tasks, Yoshikawa Feng, like Chen Wen, chose to fetch water.

He carried three items: a machete, a stew pot, and a long spear.

A standard set.

As this survival period was shorter, apart from Chen Wen, no other participants carried seasoning.

Yoshikawa Feng took the pot and began walking towards the river.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen, who had been on the move, was just about to reach Yoshikawa Feng’s area.

Spotting the appearance of a hill in the distance, Chen Wen signaled the hippo to stop.

He glanced at the tortoise, which was lively and seemed to have adapted to the dark environment.

Ignoring the tortoise, Chen Wen said, ”You rest, it’s my job from here. Thanks for your hard work.”

The hippo snorted, without saying a word.

A long trek like this is high-intensity for it.

The hippo was quite exhausted.

It soaked in the water, slowly regaining its strength.

And Chen Wen was planning to go ashore and head to Yoshikawa Feng’s place.

...

Just after going ashore, Chen Wen looked towards the distant hill.

He roughly judged Yoshikawa Feng’s position, just about to head over when.

Suddenly.

With the enhancement of [Extreme Vision], Chen Wen suddenly saw a figure emerge from the nearby woods.

This direction....

Chen Wen hesitated for a moment, then quickly bent down, retreating below the riverbank, leaving only his head exposed.

Yoshikawa Feng!

Chen Wen was sure it was Yoshikawa Feng!

The distance between them wasn’t far; they could both notice each other.

However, Yoshikawa Feng hadn’t spotted Chen Wen, as it took just a second or two from him emerging from the woods to Chen Wen hiding.

Even Chen Wen only got a general look.

But he identified Yoshikawa Feng by the attire and gait.

Chen Wen didn’t approach recklessly, nor did he retreat.

Because Yoshikawa Feng was now close to the riverbank; going out would definitely catch his eye.

At that time, any sneak attack or plan to make Yoshikawa Feng exert effort for nothing would be ruined.

Therefore, Chen Wen decided to hide for now.

Quickly scanning the surroundings, he finally locked onto the reeds not far away.

Cautiously diving into the water and swimming over.

By the time Chen Wen emerged, Yoshikawa Feng was just thirty meters from the riverbank.

A bit slower and he would have been discovered by Yoshikawa Feng.

Lin Jiawei, watching the thrilling scene, couldn’t help but sweat for Chen Wen.

But the thrill was not over.

After arriving at the riverbank, Yoshikawa Feng noticed something was off.
