Chapter 925: Chapter 14: Second Game

In the blink of an eye, more than twenty hours passed again. With Sha’s translation, Su Xiao understood the contents of the notebook. During this time, he had been familiarizing himself with his intuitive abilities.

After over twenty hours of exploration and with Sha’s notes, he had become somewhat familiar with his intuition, at least enough to use it in combat.

Su Xiao still had four medium Soul Crystals and one small Soul Crystal. If he wanted, he could also learn ”Combat Proficiency (Passive)” from Sha.

But Su Xiao had no such intention. Biting off more than one can chew would be unwise; the intuition ability alone would take him a long time to digest. He wouldn’t learn two skills in a short period; whenever he learned a new skill, he would always elevate the previously learned skill to a certain level.

Having many skills does not necessarily mean having strong combat ability. The abilities that are flexible and useful in combat are the practical ones.

”Ready to leave?

It seemed Sha saw through Su Xiao’s plans.

”Yes.”

”Wait.”

Sha stood up, walked to Su Xiao, and leaned in close. As a tomboy, Sha naturally didn’t have the allure of fragrance; Su Xiao only smelled a hint of sweat.

”The smell of a demon.”

Sha’s lips curled up.

”A word of advice: be careful of the wolf steward. The demon servant might help you. With the power of the demon within you, you share the same source with the demon servants.”

Sha’s face almost touched Su Xiao’s.

”Too close!”

”...”

Sha said nothing, just smiled widely. A moment later, she turned and walked away.

Su Xiao pushed open the wooden door. There was no longer any reason to stay here, or else Sha might end up taking several more Soul Crystals from him.

Just as Su Xiao left the room, Sha clenched her fist tightly, her pale pupils glowing red.

”If I sensed right, he is the successor of those lunatics, with the power of the demon on his body. This is... an opportunity for freedom. Alice, it seems you’re fearing that existence, even allowing the successors of those crazies into the castle. Have you forgotten who almost hung you in the Void platform?”

Sha untied the hemp rope from her black hair, letting her long black tresses fall free.

”As long as I escape to that entity’s territory, I’ll be free. Whatever the cost, it’s worth it for freedom.”

...

On the first floor of the Demon Castle, in that vast open space.

Su Xiao leaned against a stone pillar, having activated his intuition, ensuring that no movement around could escape his perception.

”Bubu, what are you standing there dazed for?”

Su Xiao looked at Bubu Wang, who had been acting odd since before, often zoning out.

”Woof.”

Bubu Wang barked, shook its head, and trotted up to Su Xiao, leaving him puzzled.

”Woof, woof.”

Bubu Wang’s paw made a fist, thrusting forward several times.

”Did you learn some skills from Sha?

Understanding Bubu Wang’s gesture, Su Xiao was quite surprised and checked its profile.

Bubute Ni (Servant·Tearing Space Evil Dog)

Life Value: 100%

Mana Value: 270

Power: 26

Agility: 32

Stamina: 30

Intelligence: 27

Charm: 53

Skill 1: Full Speed Charge (Active Lv.10)

Skill 2: Gift of the Goddess of Snow (Aura Lv.1)

Skill 3: Loyalty Guard Master (Active Lv.1)

Skill 4: Advanced Creature (Active Lv.MAX)

Skill 5: Loyalty (Passive Lv.MAX)

Skill 6: You Can’t See Me (Passive, self-learned), Bubute Ni can hide in any terrain, currently 864 hiding types (increased by 186).

Skill 7: Secret Peeping of Dog Star People (Passive, self-learned), when looking at enemies from 30 meters away, there’s an 80% chance of not being detected. If enemies detect Bubute Ni’s gaze, it quickly enters ’You Can’t See Me (Passive)’.

Skill 8: Scent Tracking (Passive Lv.3), can track known scents within a 5 km range. If the enemy is not tracked within 3 hours or moves beyond 5 km, their trail is lost.

...

Bubu Wang had gained a new skill to track enemy scents. Though Bubu Wang could originally track enemy smells, most Contractors could easily mask their scent.

Tracking scents was different. Scent is not easily hidden unless one has skills to control their aura like Su Xiao.

”Did Sha teach you?”

”Woof.”

”.....”

Su Xiao was at a loss for words. He had spent quite a few Soul Crystals learning skills from Sha, while Bubu Wang only sacrificed some snack reserves. The difference between man and dog was just too vast.

”Lucky you.”

”Woof.”

Bubu Wang wagged its tail, its expression clearly saying, ”You mean you have to spend Soul Crystals to learn skills? Master, you must be doing it wrong.”

Putting aside Bubu Wang’s dumb luck, on checking its attributes, Su Xiao felt they were somewhat low.

To enhance Bubu Wang’s attributes wasn’t simple; it required devouring the flesh of high-level creatures. High-level creatures were hard to find, and powerful beings weren’t necessarily high-level ones. It seemed essential to let Bubu Wang taste enemies’ flesh whenever Su Xiao killed peculiar or rare enemies.

Feeling Su Xiao’s gaze, Bubu Wang shivered.

After wandering around various wooden doors, Su Xiao lost interest in the story creatures behind them. Those relatively mild-mannered storyline characters were unable to interact. The ones he could negotiate with were increasingly dangerous. And after his negotiations with Sha, their attitude turned cold for reasons unknown.

After a few rounds, Su Xiao walked into the game room he had visited before.

The game room was empty. The equipment on the wall’s wooden grid was locked, meant only for display, not for taking.

Resting on a seat, Su Xiao began to take a short nap. The second game wouldn’t take long to begin. He had spent the previous three days’ reward session mostly in Sha’s room, without rest.

While Su Xiao was resting, the game room’s door creaked open, and his eyes snapped open.

”Someone’s here already?”

The detective little girl entered the room, looking disheveled. Who knew whom she had negotiated with?

The little detective found a chair far from Su Xiao and sat down. She didn’t dare close her eyes, merely resting against the chair.

Su Xiao continued to rest. With his intuition triggered, he would instantly react if someone attacked.

More people gradually entered the game room. Many Contractors profited in different ways during the three days, just as Su Xiao predicted. It indeed was a reward session after the first game.

As the exhaustion from mastering his intuition faded, the game room’s door was pushed open again, this time by the wolf steward.

The wolf steward entered the room. The National Foot trio and the golden glasses man stood up, signaling they had dealings with the wolf steward. The cat woman and the little detective girl stayed put, while Pibang nodded at the wolf steward, indicating they too had interactions.

”Ladies and gentlemen, the three days are over. It is time for the next game to begin.”

The wolf steward’s attire remained impeccable as ever. He turned to exit the room, with other Contractors exchanging glances and following.

”It’s starting again. Hope we get through safely this time. Amitabha, may Jesus bless us.”

The detective little girl was apprehensive. The thrill of the first game was memorable, and the melancholic man, despite his strength, died without splash, leaving a sole phrase in his wake: ’My fate is in my own hands, not in the heavens’.
