Chapter 913: Chapter 2: Breaking Free

Nine people were tied to iron pillars. If they were ordinary people, they would first appeal for help, then try to break free from the chains. But these nine were not ordinary; they were Contractors who had faced life or death, among them a Hunter blended in.

This time, there was no hunting task, so there was no chance Su Xiao’s Hunter identity could be exposed. However, this didn’t mean he would cooperate with other Contractors. To be precise, apart from members of the same adventure group, everyone else remained vigilant of one another, as the rules within the Demon Castle were still unclear, and the game content was unknown.

Going by the literal meaning, the game had already begun, but Su Xiao was unaware of the details to follow. Could they really just remain bound like this?

”Everyone, let me introduce myself. I’m Walsh. Speaking from my personal perspective, I don’t wish to have adversarial relations with you.”

The Golden Glasses Man spoke.

”...”

Cold silence.

The Golden Glasses Man was not embarrassed, smiling instead, as he looked at the others.

”Given the current situation, our best course is to break free from these chains. Personally, my combat strength is not strong; I’m a Support class. This game will likely be a battle of individual strength, thus, I need to be proactive. After all, for a Support class, passing a strong trial alone isn’t likely. Does anyone need support?”

The Golden Glasses Man began seeking alliances with others. If he truly was in Support, his actions were sensible.

”I need it, let’s cooperate.”

The Detective Little Girl spoke.

”Oh? What’s your combat type, little sister? You don’t need to be specific—close combat or long range?”

The voice of the Golden Glasses Man was gentle, slightly hoarse, with a little moustache just below his chin adding to his manly charm.

”Actually... I’m Support too.”

The Detective Little Girl, wearing a baseball cap, grinned mischievously, which made her seem somewhat sly.

”Ahem, let’s join forces.”

The Golden Glasses Man didn’t change his demeanor despite the Detective Little Girl’s Support status, showing a sense of camaraderie among supporters.

”I’ll join, give me a buff.”

The gloomy man spoke.

”Brother, your appearance shows you’re not easy to get along with. Although this may seem impolite, I refuse your entry.”

The Golden Glasses Man smiled at the gloomy man.

”Yeah, you’re not invited. You’re too ugly; my mom says I can’t play with you.”

The Detective Little Girl also rejected him, making the gloomy man’s face even darker.

”Those over there, I’m also a Support. How about letting me in?”

The Cat Woman near Su Xiao spoke, her voice slightly seductive.

”Of course, no problem.”

The Golden Glasses Man was ”open to all comers.”

”Our three brothers are also Support.”

The National Foot Boss joined the fun.

”That’s fantastic! With the National Foot Brothers joining, we’re even stronger now.”

The Golden Glasses Man recognized them immediately upon hearing their names. The small group increased to six members quickly, leaving only the rejected gloomy man, the fat guy starving till his eyes rolled white, and Su Xiao outside the circle.

”Nine people, six are Support—it’d be antisocial if I wasn’t Support too. This is no strongman trial; it’s a Support trial. Glasses, I’m Support too. Count me in.”

The fat guy spoke, swallowing. Who knows if he hadn’t eaten for a long time, or if his ability left him constantly hungry. If it’s the latter, this fat guy is lucky to savor culinary delights tens or even hundreds of times beyond usual.

”Pibang Brother is too modest. I’ve heard of your reputation—you’ve designed several games I’ve played. They’re quite enjoyable, although the difficulty is high. All in all, those games suit Contractors well, sharpening abilities while relieving stress.”

The Golden Glasses Man also recognized the fat guy. Or rather, this fat guy was a well-known figure.

”It’s alright, just some side earnings.”

Pibang was humble. In reality, the Paradise coin he earned by designing games was by no means a small sum.

The situation shifted silently; except for Su Xiao and the gloomy man, everyone else joined the small group.

”Brother, I see you have an extraordinary presence, won’t you join us?”

The Golden Glasses Man began to try to rope in Su Xiao, which seemingly appeared as an invitation but actually targeted someone—the gloomy man.

The Golden Glasses Man seemed to need others’ support, but in truth, he didn’t. With everything about the Demon Castle games unknown, someone had to ’test for traps.’ Clearly, the gloomy man was chosen as the ’unfortunate guy to test traps,’ with seven people out of nine already implicitly agreeing.

The Golden Glasses Man appeared gentle but was the most aggressive and adept at self-preservation, first claiming his Support identity.

”Indeed, extraordinary presence; my hair’s standing on end.”

The Cat Woman nearby Su Xiao spoke.

”What... the hell is that?”

Pibang stared forward, corner of his eye twitching.

”Hey hey hey, this isn’t a joke.”

The Detective Little Girl looked ahead, struggling for her life to break free from the chains.

Before the nine, a dozen metallic blades slowly sliced across the room. The blades weren’t fast, but very thin; the cold gleam reflecting off the blades made hairs stand on end. If caught by them, even 80 points of Physical Attribute couldn’t withstand.

[Spatial confinement has been removed; the Hunter may use any method to break free from the snake chain.]

A prompt appeared; Su Xiao felt a certain constricting force disappear. He had stopped struggling against the chains due to this spatial confinement feeling, and others did as well. The chains could potentially be broken free from, but spatial confinement couldn’t.

Now that restraint was lifted, with several blades slowly cutting forward, everyone began various efforts to break free from the chains.

”Fat flow.”

Pibang’s fat flowed like water. Though he appeared overweight, he was actually an agile fat guy.

With a clatter, the chain hit the ground. Pibang effortlessly freed himself, taking out a bag of beef jerky to munch on slowly.

”Meow?”

The Cat Woman meowed, suddenly transforming into a tabby cat and successfully breaking free.

”Elder Three, it’s your turn.”

The National Foot Boss roared.

”Alrighty.”

Elder Three took a deep breath, his leg muscles taut as his body lowered slightly.

”Let’s go!”

Boom!

A blast rang out, Elder Three jumped skyward with full force, darting upwards like a national flag rising.

With a thud, Elder Three’s heavenly spirit cover hit the ceiling, but he was unfazed, starting to slide downward. Upon landing, Elder Three hopped up again like a bouncing ball, rubbing repeatedly against the chains, causing them to loosen, enabling him to break free. Say what you will, Elder Three’s head was indeed tough.

Once Elder Three freed himself, he immediately ran to Elder Two, taking a TNT bomb from his storage space, placing it beside Elder Two, who panicked.

”Wait, wait... hold on.”

Boom!

A surge of flame erupted, the blast impact spreading, and Elder Three quickly healed Elder Two. Amidst the smoke, Elder Two’s hairstyle turned somewhat messy, smoke rising from his head, with the chains binding him not snapped but visibly loosened. These chains resembled more a creature than a thing. Elder Two ’successfully’ escaped.

Witnessing this, the National Foot Boss shivered.

”Elder Three, hear me out, wow, no, don’t dare put it on me...”

Boom!

A few seconds later, the National Foot Boss and Elder Two, taking ’moonwalking’ strides, ran to the room’s rear, behind them the bruised and swollen Elder Three. Elder Three felt aggrieved but didn’t express it.

Seeing this, Bubu Wang seemed to discover a new world, with its large watery eyes fixed on Su Xiao, as if to say, ”Master, need help? Bubu can also use healing skills.”

Of course, Su Xiao wouldn’t resort to such unconventional means. He took his Dragon Slash from its sheath, pressing forward with his thumb, releasing some of the blade.

Zing!

Blade aura cut across, slicing the chains into pieces. As they fell, they twisted like snakes.

A face energy shield dissipated in front of Su Xiao as he walked towards the room’s rear, staying away from the steadily approaching sharp blades.
