Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

At this point in the conversation, there was no longer any common ground between the two sides.

Najenda had fully understood Fang Zheng’s thoughts. From her perspective, they seemed almost fantastical. But if Esdeath indeed became Empress, what would happen to the Empire was uncertain, though it would undoubtedly be the worst news for the Revolutionary Army.

After this, Najenda instructed Akame and Main to return to Night Raid and prepare for the next step. Although the people ordered were somewhat reluctant, they could only follow orders and act. However, one person did not leave, choosing to remain.

”Is this okay?”

Watching the figures of Main and Akame fade into the distance, Fang Zheng tilted his head slightly and looked at Chelsea beside him. Just now, Chelsea had entrusted Main with delivering a letter to Najenda. It wasn’t a report; it was a resignation letter, simply put— ”I find it more fun here than back at Night Raid, so I’m not going back!”

That’s about it.

In contrast, Akame seemed very calm, while Main appeared to be celebrating narrowly escaping a catastrophe... Well, that young girl’s luck wasn’t bad; she had managed to avoid giving Fang Zheng any chance so many times.

”Of course. I find your ideas much more interesting than the Revolutionary Army’s.”

While munching on a lollipop, Chelsea cheerfully looked at Fang Zheng.

”In the beginning, I served as a maid in the Governor’s Office and witnessed the Empire’s darkness—the bribery of high officials, the arbitrary manipulation of other people’s lives. So at that time, I killed the governor and joined the Revolutionary Army because I believed I could change the world with my own power.”

Saying this, Chelsea raised her hand and tightly clenched it.

”But the Revolutionary Army wasn’t exactly what I imagined... They always talk about resisting tyranny and establishing a new country, but what kind of country would it be? I’m not quite sure, but there’s no other way. However, now, I have some ideas—it’s about belief or faith, whether others understand it or not. As long as I change others’ destinies, that’s enough. I believe here I will achieve my wish.”

At this point, Chelsea took the lollipop out of her mouth and let out a bitter smile.

”I’m just a little sorry for the Revolutionary Army.”

”What about your comrades in the Revolutionary Army?”

”I have no comrades. In the previous mission, my squad was wiped out; only I survived—so Najenda brought me to Night Raid. To be honest, I left Night Raid partly because I was a bit scared...”

”Scared?”

”Yes...”

Chelsea nodded slightly, the cheerful face showing a hint of unease and hesitation for the first time.

”To be honest, I don’t really like the Revolutionary Army, so I can’t help but wonder—if they seize power, what will happen to Night Raid? Thinking about this scares me...”

”It’s normal to have such thoughts.”

Upon hearing Chelsea’s confessions, Fang Zheng nodded. Organizations dwelling in the darkness like Night Raid usually don’t have good ends; whether used as pawns or otherwise, retiring to farm is definitely not among their options.

Main and Akame are ultimately too young and naive, while Chelsea clearly has much more maturity.

”However, for now, let’s do what we can.”

”Are we dealing with the Hunters?”

Upon hearing this, Chelsea’s eyes immediately lit up. Meanwhile, Sayu, not far from her, just quietly glanced at Chelsea and snorted softly without a word.

”No. Why should we deal with the Hunters?”

”Eh? But the Hunters are specifically tasked to deal with our team, right? Don’t we need to tackle them?”

”Our target is the Empire; what’s the point of fighting to the death with the Hunters? That troop numbers less than ten; just avoid them.”

Fang Zheng showed no concern for the Hunters. Why should we engage them just because they formed a team targeting us? We are not fish biting at the hook, which would be foolish.

Why align in the middle road if not assaulting the Crystal at their stronghold?

Are they out of their minds?

If the Hunters want a team battle, it still depends on whether we agree.

Thus, the assassins continued their actions as usual, hunting down nobles and bureaucrats everywhere, causing chaos in the entire Inner City. However, this situation left the Hunter Troop in a very passive state...

”Damn it, these thieves!”

Will angrily slammed the table with his fist. It was uncertain how many times this had happened. Each time the assassins would choose locations guarded with no Hunter presence for their attacks, and given their few numbers, protecting the vast Inner City was impossible.

”I really have doubts about how they manage to dodge us every single time.”

Lan also showed a puzzled expression.

”It’s important to know that our Hunter Troop’s member information is secret, and whereabouts are unknown. Yet, after so many instances, we’ve never faced them directly even once...”

”These people are really hard to deal with. Compared to them, Night Raid seems a little easier.”

The fashionable doctor, dressed in a white coat and exuding a pretentious air, shared his thoughts. Everyone nodded in agreement; indeed, Night Raid only carries out assassinations when commissioned. They could exploit the civilians, use threats and bribes to give Night Raid a fake commission, and then eradicate them.

However, this group of assassins acts entirely without rules or sequence, with no warning beforehand or any notice like ”Heavenly Punishment” left behind afterward, unlike Night Raid. This kind of opponent, who cares about nothing else, is the hardest to deal with.

”So we should still use my method.”

The little girl, sitting in a chair and swinging her legs while holding a puppy, spoke up discontentedly.

”With my method, we could definitely find those guys!”

”But Miss Meili...”

Looking at the little girl throwing a tantrum, the blond-haired, blue-eyed handsome Lan also revealed a bitter smile.

”Releasing a large number of Danger Species into the Imperial City will only cause greater panic. Even if you guarantee those Demon Beasts will follow your orders completely, still...”

While it’s clear that the little girl has the ability to control Danger Species, if a big group of them really rushes into the Imperial City, it would be tantamount to a monster siege, making things worse.

”No need to make it so complicated.”

At that moment, the door opened, and an old man with white hair walked in.

”We already have a new plan. If it succeeds, we can wipe out those pesky assassins along with Night Raid—”

Saying this, the old man clenched his fist tightly.

”All in one fell swoop!!”

The eagle spreads its wings.

A pitch-black hawk flew through the sky, then spiraled down and landed on the edge of a nearby platform. With a ”bang” in a puff of white smoke, it transformed into Chelsea.

”Everything went smoothly. The actions over there have concluded without being detected.”

”Thank you for your hard work.”

”Not at all, it wasn’t hard, not hard at all.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s response, Chelsea cheerfully pulled out a lollipop and popped it into her mouth.

”The skill you taught me, called Hawkeye, is really useful. From the sky, I can see the enemy’s setup almost at a glance, it’s really fun!”

After Chelsea joined the assassin organization, Fang Zheng taught her the Hawkeye skill. Of course, this doesn’t mean Chelsea would become an assassin; at most, she’s an unofficial member—Fang Zheng isn’t one to follow ancient codes.

After all... whatever happens, happens.

Incidentally, after mastering Hawkeye, Chelsea finally understood why Fang Zheng could spot her no matter what form she took.

The colors are all different; it would be bizarre not to notice.

”But to be honest, I really didn’t expect you to have me do this kind of thing.”

Looking at the Imperial City below, Chelsea mused somewhat. She originally thought Fang Zheng might also have her perform assassination tasks or something, but to her surprise, Fang Zheng valued her transformation ability, wanting her to take the form of an eagle to monitor and coordinate with other members.

”Some things can be done by many people, some things can only be done by certain people. To me, you’re perfect for this task.”

Fang Zheng wasn’t just talking nonsense. After all, the communication methods in this world are still quite primitive, whereas Chelsea can transform into animals to meet people, relay messages, and orders, allowing for timely adjustments of plans and methods, something others can’t do.

After all, if a person is monitoring from a high place, they’ll eventually be spotted. But as an eagle, it’s less conspicuous and more covert.

”Honestly, this really suits me. Frankly, if you led the Revolutionary Army, it might be even better, right?”

”I have no interest in that, and I’ve grown tired of being an Emperor.”

”Hearing you say that, it’s like you really were an Emperor.”

Chelsea silently stared at Fang Zheng again, speechless in her retort. She’d heard Fang Zheng make similar remarks more than once, but only thought he was bluffing. After all, the world is only so big, and everyone knows how many Emperors there are. If someone as young as Fang Zheng was an Emperor, it would’ve shaken the entire continent. Even if he were a Prince, he wouldn’t be spending his time playing at being an assassin, would he?

”Heh heh.”

Fang Zheng merely shrugged and chuckled at Chelsea’s retort.

He had been an Emperor for several hundred years already, and it was about time he let himself take a break.

Occasionally switching roles to be an assassin was actually quite nice.
