Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

”Did they really say that?”

The boss of Night Raid—Najenda, sat on the chair, looking at Main in front of her, who nodded indignantly.

”That’s right, Boss, that man said we weren’t professional enough, so he didn’t want to cooperate!”

Hearing this, Main was also filled with anger. The next day, Fang Zheng sent her and Hill out of the city, and then the two of them returned to Night Raid’s base. Main also reported yesterday’s events to the other members of Night Raid. Everyone was excited upon finally making contact with those elusive Grim Reapers, but the news Main brought back wasn’t good...

”There’s actually such an organization...”

Najenda also fell silent, frowning as she pondered. Although Najenda was currently the leader of Night Raid and one of the representatives of the Revolutionary Army, she had once been an officer in the Imperial Army. Yet, she had never heard of such a group of assassins. But now it seems they do exist.

”Main, do you think what they said makes sense?”

Seeing Main complain endlessly to her comrades, Najenda asked her. Hearing Najenda’s question, Main’s face changed slightly.

”Uh... well...”

Honestly, Main really wanted to say, ”That’s completely wrong, we at Night Raid are also very powerful!”

But recalling the previous battles, and that scene in the execution ground, she couldn’t bring herself to speak such words against her conscience.

”In fact, I also think they’re not wrong.”

”Boss?!”

Hearing this, the others looked at Najenda in surprise, and she responded with a bitter smile.

Although Main had conveyed Fang Zheng’s words in an indignant tone, Najenda understood clearly that they had seen right through Night Raid’s weaknesses.

That is, ”Aren’t you just bullying people with your Teigu?”

Indeed, Night Raid’s essence is exactly that. Najenda, having been an officer, knew the importance of discipline in an organization. But the others were different. In Night Raid, apart from Akame, Brand, and Lubbock, who were former Imperial soldiers, everyone else was civilian-born. They were there simply because they possessed a Teigu.

But in other aspects, having them act like a military unit was simply impossible.

Night Raid’s successful operations largely depended on their possession of powerful Teigu, and even if their enemies had strong abilities, they couldn’t compare to the Teigu. Since Teigu are very selective, only Qualified Individuals can use them, others simply can’t, which made Night Raid’s battles seem like cheating—like everyone is of the same Rank, but they could wield epic weapons, while the opponents were at best elite or Legendary.

Their attacks were simply not comparable.

Najenda had always worried that Night Raid would encounter problems, and in fact, it was proven.

Last night, Main and Hill suffered heavy hits in a battle against a Teigu wearer... which was actually not unexpected, but...

”Did you all know?”

Najenda looked up at the other members of Night Raid.

”When I returned from the Revolutionary Army before, my superiors gave me an order, no matter what the cost, to make contact with those... assassins.”

At this point, Najenda seemed a bit desolate.

”They’ve already accomplished what we at Night Raid couldn’t for such a long time. Think about it, they’ve been in the Imperial City for less than a month, and now, the entire city is almost at a standstill.”

The Imperial City is the capital of the Empire. The capital coming to a halt signifies immense consequences for the entire nation, with Esdeath currently conducting campaigns in other countries, unable to return temporarily. The stoppage of the city’s functions also made the rest of the Empire sluggish. In such a scenario, the progress of the Revolutionary Army had also become much smoother. Therefore, they were eager to contact those ”Grim Reapers,” hoping to recruit them into the Revolutionary Army. This way, their victory seemed right within reach.

But now, it seemed the other party wasn’t interested in the Revolutionary Army.

Najenda felt quite disappointed because this was originally Night Raid’s mission, but it was unexpectedly completed casually by an unknown organization, and they weren’t even fighting for the Revolutionary Army...

But it couldn’t go on like this.

This needed to change.

”Main.”

Thinking of this, Najenda made a firm decision. She looked up at Main.

”I have a very important mission for you.”

”Yes!”

Upon hearing Najenda’s words, Main’s expression turned serious.

”Whatever the mission, I will complete it!”

Main said this, and acted accordingly, but...

”Why are you back here again?”

Fang Zheng crossed his arms, looking at Main in front of him, but this time, standing behind her wasn’t the girl in a cheongsam with glasses, Hill, but a young girl with pitch-black long hair, wearing a sailor suit, holding a katana.

”Uh...”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s inquiry, Main had no answer. She bit her lip, hesitating for a moment before finally speaking.

”We want to learn...”

”Learn?”

”Yes, that’s what the boss wants...”

At this point, Main felt frustrated inside. She initially thought Najenda was going to assign her some task, but what Main didn’t expect was that Najenda actually wanted her to come to this group of assassins and learn from them! This made Main very, very unhappy, since she had previously spoken tough in front of Fang Zheng, saying something like ”Night Raid is the strongest,” only to turn around and ask to learn from them...

”Alright, it’s not really a problem.”

Fang Zheng shrugged his shoulders. He genuinely didn’t mind; Assassin’s Creed is certainly not a simple organization or force, and when they understand, they’ll realize what they truly need to do.

”If you want to join the Assassins, you can... Hmm, and who is this?”

Fang Zheng already knew Main’s name, but he still didn’t know the black-haired, red-eyed girl beside her.

”Akame.”

The black-haired girl glanced at Fang Zheng and quietly reported her name.

”So you’re here to observe, learn, and see how we operate?”

”Yes... That’s correct.”

Main nodded with a bitter expression, considering she had just turned away earlier in the morning, looking as if she’d never return to find them, only to be back within less than half a day...

”You came at the right time. In fact, today we happen to have an assassin who is transitioning to mastery, and you can also come to observe our ceremony.”

”Ceremony?”

Hearing this, Main froze for a moment, but Fang Zheng didn’t say anything further. He just turned around and pushed open the door, heading into the depths of the sewer. Seeing this scene, Main hesitated for a moment, then tugged Akame, and the two of them followed Fang Zheng into the dark sewer.

”When was this passage constructed?”

Looking at the sewer in front of her, Main felt a bit puzzled. She was certain this wasn’t something existing from before since Night Raid also had a map of the Imperial City, and if there were such a sewer, it would have been closed off long ago.

”I bought it; it did cost me quite a bit before.”

Fang Zheng silently complained, and Main was even more speechless.

”Bought...?”

Can a sewer be purchased?

It seemed a bit unbelievable to Main, but actually the same was true for Fang Zheng.

In the Assassin’s Creed game, players can unlock fast teleportation mode by buying a region’s sewer entrance. In reality, no one openly prices these things for sale, but Fang Zheng discovered that if he spent enough money to buy shops or houses, a new sewer passage would appear in the area for quick teleportation, as if he truly paid to open up an underground route.

This is one of the traits of the Soulstone.

Soon, the three arrived at a gate; Fang Zheng pushed it open and walked inside. Main and Akame exchanged glances and followed behind him into the gate.

Inside the gate was a place that looked like a council hall. A crimson red carpet extended from underfoot to the endpoint ahead, and on both sides of the carpet, Main and Akame saw several figures wearing the same robe as Fang Zheng silently standing there.

Fang Zheng made a gesture, signaling them to stand aside, then he walked to the end of the carpet and stood in front of a brazier.

”Mentor, everything is ready.”

”Hmm.”

Fang Zheng nodded, then turned around. Immediately after, a figure in a white cloak walked slowly along the carpet. She walked to Fang Zheng, extended her hand to her chest, and respectfully bowed to Fang Zheng.

”Laa shay’a waqi’un moutlaq bale kouloun moumkine.”

Fang Zheng returned the gesture, then Iyeas beside him extended a hand and took out a pair of tongs glowing red from the brazier, while the person cooperatively raised their right hand’s nameless finger. Fang Zheng gazed at the girl before him and then spoke.

”When others blindly seek truth, remember...”

”Nothing is true.”

The girl lowered her head and softly replied.

”When others are bound by morality or law, remember...”

”Everything is permitted.”

The assassins lowered their heads and softly recited, and watching this scene, Main and Akame seemed a bit dazed. Although they didn’t understand what these words meant, they instinctively felt that this seemed to be a culture completely different from their Night Raid.

”We walk in the dark to serve the light.”

Fang Zheng raised his head.

”We are... Assassins.”
