Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1378: Chapter 1377: Where Are the Mobs? Where Are the Villains? Where’s the Boss?

”...Sora, what are you looking at?”

Facing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the white-haired girl opposite said nothing, as if she hadn’t heard. Fang Zheng simply smiled and shook his head. Although he had seen everything like a fast-forwarding movie before the ”game started,” he still understood a bit about his ”sister’s” personality.

Because she was frail and sickly from a young age, his sister rarely went to school and didn’t like to interact with outsiders. Her personality was somewhat willful. But to Fang Zheng, that was endearing—he remembered how Black Cat once told him about her sister who would call her brother to do things at a whim, and slapped him when she was in a bad mood. Compared to that, Sora was rather cute except for some occasional small tantrums.

”Do you want some snacks?”

Fang Zheng took out a box of chocolate sticks and waved it in front of Sora, who looked at him silently before reaching out to take a stick and put it in her mouth, looking out the window again. Fang Zheng then put the snacks back on the table, closed his eyes, and began reorganizing his ”background story.”

In this world, Fang Zheng was born into a middle-class family. His parents ran a shop, and he and his sister lived a relatively affluent life. But due to an accident, their parents died. The shop was subsequently sold to a friend of their parents, and Fang Zheng took Sora away from the place filled with memories to a small town where their grandparents lived, starting a new life there.

Of course, according to the ”background setting,” Fang Zheng and Sora were unable to manage their parents’ shop, so they had to sell it. But based on Fang Zheng’s capabilities, if he wanted to, even a small shop could eventually grow into a multinational enterprise, like in an urban business narrative.

But that’s not the kind of life the protagonist of this world would have.

So Fang Zheng ”went with the flow” as planned, sold the shop to pay off debts and left the city with his sister. According to the next ”setup,” their grandparents had also passed away, but their house remained, and Fang Zheng had already completed the transfer procedures before coming, so there were no major issues.

This really is ”a house, a car, and parents dead.”

After reviewing the background, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but lament that this identity is indeed the daily life of a typical Japanese high school protagonist. It’s a pity that his companion is a blood-related sister; otherwise, who knows what kind of story this would develop into.

Their new home was located in a small town—not too big, not too small—relatively secluded compared to the bustling city. However, Fang Zheng was quite interested in the characteristics of this place. Perhaps it was due to the era of this world, or because he was now in the role of a high school student, everything made Fang Zheng feel nostalgic.

”Ugh... Are we not there yet, brother?”

As Fang Zheng was looking around and reminiscing, Sora beside him began to complain a bit. She was sweating, panting occasionally, and her usually pale face was now flushed.

”Tired?”

Hearing Sora’s words, Fang Zheng turned to look at her, and Sora nodded. After getting Sora’s response, Fang Zheng walked in front of her and bent down.

”Then let me carry you.”

”Huh? Here?”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s response, Sora was visibly hesitant.

”But...”

”There aren’t many people around, and it’s really hot today. Pushing through wouldn’t be good for your health either.”

Although he held the identity of ”a typical Japanese high school protagonist,” Fang Zheng did what he wanted. Even if he had been reborn as a high school student, his mindset was still that of an adult. He certainly wouldn’t be as timid as those Japanese high school protagonists in anime and games, unable to even fart unless hit with a stick.

”...Alright.”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s words, Sora hesitated for a moment, then nodded and climbed onto Fang Zheng’s back. Fang Zheng carried Sora and continued walking towards their new home.

Before they arrived, Fang Zheng had already arranged for their grandparents’ house to be cleaned and prepared. Services like water, electricity, heating, and internet were also activated in advance, allowing them to move in directly. It didn’t take them long to settle into their new home. However, once inside, Sora immediately found a room and shut herself in, as if she intended to stay in there for eternity... leaving Fang Zheng speechless.

But well, everything’s done now!

After organizing his and Sora’s luggage, Fang Zheng clapped his hands, ready to make a grand plan. With his background story completed and a new town to explore, he thought back to many Japanese anime and game narratives he had seen before. This would usually be when the protagonist starts encountering various events and adventures.

Like encountering some demon monsters, or meeting a beautiful girl who descends from the sky and gets involved in some incident. Aren’t these all clichés?

Fang Zheng was well-versed in this!

Oh, right, he remembered that he had to transfer schools after arriving... Hahaha, being a transfer student could be funny if he met Haruhi Suzumiya.

As he made jokes in his mind, Fang Zheng casually took out the notice letter. Although termed a transfer student, they were just entering high school from junior high, so it was more like starting a new high school life than a mere transfer. Let’s see which school he would be transferring to. Certainly not Sui-gunbara or Lilian, perhaps it would be Saint Central?

Hahaha, if that were the case, he’d have to transform into Red Ponytail... But, of course, that couldn’t be the case.

”Let me see... huh? Sakanoue Academy?”

Looking at the school name on the notice, Fang Zheng scratched his head.

Why does this name sound somewhat familiar?

Oh well, I’ll find out when I go report.

Saying this, however...

”Sigh...”

Walking into the school, Fang Zheng sighed helplessly.

He hadn’t expected Sora to resist going to school so much. No matter what he said, she refused to leave her room. Although her attitude towards him wasn’t as combative as the sister Black Cat mentioned, it seemed she intended to stay holed up in her room forever.

But Fang Zheng could understand. Sora had always been weak and prone to illness, rarely attending classes regularly. Japanese schools had their quirks, and Fang Zheng, having been a teacher, saw numerous such situations. He knew kids like Sora were often hard to integrate into a class. Rather than being ignored or even bullied, staying home and surfing the web was a more carefree life.

Walking into the new campus in his uniform, Fang Zheng found everything quite fresh. Previously, he had only been in schools as a teacher; this was his first time experiencing it as a student since time traveling. Seeing the bustling crowd of new students, Fang Zheng suddenly recalled his own schooling days.

There were many good and bad events during that time. But stepping into society as an adult made him increasingly nostalgic for the simplicity of school life.

Take a stroll.

Fang Zheng’s main purpose for coming to school today was to see the class assignments for him and Sora. Of course, he also wanted to explore the campus. After all, based on Fang Zheng’s memory, even a bird-droppings school had the potential to trigger an event. Since he now carried the protagonist’s destiny, triggering events as soon as possible was more important than anything.

So Fang Zheng strolled around, hoping some beautiful girl would bump into him from a corner, or someone might jump from the building and fall on him, or someone could ask him to start a new club...

”Hahaha, look, there’s a kid here!”

Just as Fang Zheng walked to the other side of the campus, he saw a few boys gathered around, laughing loudly. In their midst was a short girl in a school uniform, resembling a middle schooler, with red eyes staring at them coldly, saying nothing.

”What’s up, little girl? This is a high school, you know. You didn’t take a wrong turn, did you?”

”Hahahaha.”

At this point, the boys burst into laughter again. Although there were many other students passing by, seeing the guys’ delinquent attire, they all chose to turn a blind eye. After all, most of the students here were freshmen, and no one wanted to get involved with these troublemakers just after entering high school.

It seems it was right for Sora not to come to school.

Seeing this scene, Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow and then walked over.

”Have you had enough?”

”Who are you?”

Seeing Fang Zheng approaching, one of the blondes turned his head in displeasure to look at him, but Fang Zheng just glanced at them.

”Picking on girls is something you should stop doing after graduating from elementary school. You’re high school students now; do I really need to teach you this lesson?”

”You———!!”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s words, several boys immediately bristled as if ready to curse him, but when Fang Zheng glared at them, they suddenly felt an immense fear rushing through their hearts, as if the next moment they’d be devoured by a fierce beast, and they couldn’t help but shiver.

”If you understand, then get lost now. If I see you again... you won’t get off lightly.”

”Y-Yes......”

In an instant, the blond boys who had been boasting just now suddenly turned as meek as grandsons, quickly nodding and bowing as they turned to leave. Watching them flee, Fang Zheng finally looked at the girl.

”Are you okay?”

”Um......”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the petite girl looked up at him and nodded. Even though her eyes were filled with tears, she held back and didn’t cry.

”Do you need it?”

While speaking, Fang Zheng took out a handkerchief, but the girl shook her head.

”I have my own, and... I don’t need to rely on anyone!”

”Well said.”

Hearing the girl’s response, Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow and withdrew his hand.

”It’s good to have that kind of spirit. Keep it up. Next time, don’t just endure. Those guys are just paper tigers. If you show them the same courage you have now, they’ll scurry away on their own.”

Saying this, Fang Zheng turned and waved his hand.

”Well then, I’ll take my leave.”

With those words, Fang Zheng turned and walked away, leaving the girl standing in place, somewhat surprised as she watched his retreating figure in silence.

To Fang Zheng, it was just a minor episode during his campus tour. However, unfortunately, after that, even though he explored the entire campus, including the unoccupied infirmary and the sports equipment storage, he didn’t encounter any FLAGS or supernatural events, which left Fang Zheng quite troubled.

He still remembered that in the official instance, he needed to know the situation of the instance before the task prompts would appear. Yet so far... why hasn’t he triggered anything?

Isn’t this supposed to be a protagonist’s destiny?

Could it be that the timing is off?

Filled with doubt, Fang Zheng returned to the bulletin board to look for his and Sora’s names on the class list.

”Found it... Class 1E...... hmm... hmm?”

Just as Fang Zheng was casually and idly scanning the list, his eyes suddenly caught a familiar name.

Saiin-ji Sekai?

This name... seems so familiar!

Wait, not just her... and this is... Gui Kotonoha? Komizo Yukina? Kazusa Touma??

???

What’s going on? Wait, aren’t these names......

Of course Fang Zheng remembered these names. Although he hadn’t seen all of their stories, when watching the anime, these names frequently appeared in the bullet screens, so much so that even generic viewers would remember them!

But if I’m not mistaken, aren’t they female leads in romance games?

”Ding———!”

Just as the thought crossed Fang Zheng’s mind, a system notification suddenly sounded in his ear, followed by a line of task information appearing in front of him.

[Main Quest Triggered]

[Main Quest ”Heartbeat Remembrance”]

[The youthful high school life is always full of uncertainties, young man, strive to love (Task Requirements: No girl with an affection level above 80 is allowed to die, if one dies, the task fails. The protagonist himself must not die, if he dies, the task fails. Successfully completing the task will grant protection from this world’s destiny)]

MMP!!!

Seeing this system notification, Fang Zheng was completely stunned.

What happened to the promised campus adventure magic story?

What about the little monsters? The villains? The BOSS?

Why have you thrown me into a school romance world?

And Heartbeat Remembrance———if you have the guts, give me Fujisaki Shiori!!!
