Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 1377: Chapter 1376: I Want to Be the Protagonist!!

Although Fang Zheng learned from Fina why his attacks were ineffective against the Chaos Knight, the reason made him quite upset.

Alright, according to Fina, with the Order Seal, he indeed qualifies as a protagonist in the Main World.

However... this power actually shares the same origin with Chaos... Upon careful thought, Fang Zheng could understand. After all, according to the backup by the Goddess of Order, this Order Seal can only be used by the Goddess of Order’s clan. This means the entire clan should possess this, but they were still obliterated by the outbreak of Chaos. It clearly shows that the Main World’s Golden Finger isn’t much help against Chaos.

But this can’t be the case.

This is just one Chaos Knight. To put it nicely, it’s barely one of the Four Heavenly Kings under Chaos... perhaps not even that. It’s uncertain whether it could sneak into the Golden Zodiac to act as a gatekeeper, yet fighting it was so taxing. And this is on this planet, Fang Zheng would have to travel to other planets in the future to repair the Goddess’s protective network, which would likely be even worse.

And if he struggled so much against the Chaos Knight, what if something even stronger came along?

Fang Zheng can’t always hide behind the little girl from his home, this is ridiculous!

What’s worse for Fang Zheng is that, while both sides’ powers share the same origin, his attacks are negated, yet he cannot negate theirs... It’s just really infuriating.

But then again, what exactly is a protagonist?

Logically speaking, Fang Zheng doesn’t even bother with the Alaya and Gaia from the Type Moon World, and they even cry to hang onto him. Doesn’t that make him a protagonist in the Type Moon World?

Having traveled through so many worlds, isn’t there at least one where he stars as the protagonist?

Oh, wait, at least in Lothric...

No wonder only the attack from the Primordial Fire was effective against that bastard!

Realizing this left Fang Zheng utterly speechless.

According to Fina, the so-called ”Chosen One” seems to be some sort of will of the universe, but this Chosen One is not necessarily the world’s ruler. This is quite normal; take Nanoha, Fate, and Sakura, Fang Zheng doesn’t recall them ever ruling their world for thousands of years; often they lived quiet lives no different from ordinary people, without particularly high status.

This means that the so-called ”protagonist aura” doesn’t have much to do with one’s actual power and status. If Fang Zheng were placed in the Type Moon World, he would probably be akin to the Old Gem Dealer-type hidden BOSS that true protagonists wouldn’t dare provoke casually.

Still not a protagonist.

However, Fang Zheng is not completely without options.

His biggest issue now is that he doesn’t have another world’s power as protection, and currently, all Fang Zheng’s power sources are essentially from this world, sharing attributes with Chaos and thus difficult to effectively attack with. So, as long as Fang Zheng, like Nanoha and Sakura, goes to another world to play the role of a protagonist, gaining the protective will of that world, then there should be no problem.

Of course, saying it is easy, but doing it is not so simple.

Because the Dimensional Codex only gave Fang Zheng the ability to travel to other worlds, it didn’t give him the ability to become a protagonist. Fortunately, Fang Zheng previously received the legacy of a mysterious great power in the World of the Immortal Sword, which included various cultivation techniques, among them the Reincarnation Technique.

This was originally a technique used by cultivators to reincarnate, to experience the vast world and sever karma. It’s quite simple, really. Like if one was saved by someone and swore to repay the debt in the next life by becoming a loyal steed or something similar. Then, later on, due to a twist of fate, they became immortals but couldn’t just ignore the vows they made in the past. After all, for a cultivator, mental barriers are crucial, otherwise, Bai Suzhen wouldn’t have repaid Xu Xian after becoming human, right?

In fact, the Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio includes many similar stories: a family births a child, wise from childhood, who grows up to bring prosperity, marries and has children, and lives a full life. Then, one day, suddenly collapses and reveals to relatives that they are a star from the heavens who came to repay a karmic bond with the family, and now that it’s fulfilled, it’s time to return to the Celestial Court, etc...

This is essentially the technique used.

And now, Fang Zheng plans to use this method, as long as he can ”reincarnate” in a world, letting his soul power gain that world’s characteristics, then he will have a way to deal with Chaos. At least his attacks could acquire the ”Another World” attribute, likely breaking through Chaos’s defenses!

Currently, Fang Zheng has run out of consumables, but... it’s been a long time since he’s started a new main quest.

This is a great opportunity!

Fang Zheng’s character is always to act immediately; since he has decided to attack the Twilight Frontier, he must find a way to obtain the ”Another World” attribute bonus as soon as possible.

Fortunately, due to his previous battle with the Chaos Knight, most of the Chaos Monsters in this area have been wiped out. The little girls were quick to realize the danger and took refuge on the warship. The Klein Field and Shield were fully activated, managing to block the aftershock of Fang Zheng’s fight with the Chaos Knight.

However, the Chaos Monsters weren’t so lucky; neither the Chaos Knight nor Fang Zheng could overcome each other, but dealing with these Chaos Monsters was easily done. Now, all the Chaos Monsters in sight from every direction are dead, prompting Fang Zheng to immediately instruct Tanji and the worker bees to expand crazily, seizing as much territory as possible, as quickly as possible.

He also received a promise from Fina that the Kingdom of the Holy Church would soon dispatch troops to the Twilight Border, collaborating with the Magitech Nation and the Heavenly Dao Palace to eradicate the threat from the Twilight Frontier.

However, before that, Fang Zheng received an unexpected reinforcement from Fina.

”Uh... Lady Fina.”

Looking at the large-headed teddy bear standing before him, Fang Zheng was filled with black lines.

”You’re saying... they... are reinforcements too?”

”Exactly, Mr. Fang Zheng.”

Seeing the large-headed teddy bear beside her, Fina smiled slightly.

”To be honest, if it weren’t for these Divine Attendants, I couldn’t have reached the Evil Dragon. After all, the Evil Dragon was incredibly cunning, placing many offspring outside as guards...”

”I did notice that...”

Fang Zheng had indeed seen those grotesque creatures on platforms and the bodies of these large-headed teddy bears, naturally guessing there had been a bloody battle between them. He just couldn’t have imagined these large-headed teddy bears were actually Divine Attendants—according to Fina, ever since the fall of the Twilight Frontier, they had been in the Dungeon, monitoring Chaos and guarding the boundary of civilization! This was the mission given by the Goddess!

What more could Fang Zheng say? He recalled the round spheres in the Goddess’s bathhouse... All he could say was that the taste of the Goddess of Order was truly unique.

”Chirp chirp chirp!”

In front of Fang Zheng, the large-headed teddy bear raised its spear, greeting him like a primitive Amazonian, to which Fang Zheng nodded with a complex expression. He wasn’t worried about the combat power of these large-headed teddy bears; they could block those grotesque creatures and had lived here for so long, clearly very familiar with the Twilight Frontier.

It’s just that in terms of communication......

”Lady Fina, I’ll be counting on you next.”

Fang Zheng also restrained his expression and looked at Fina, who nodded while holding the magic wand.

”Understood, I will stay here and have Kani return to mobilize the army... it’s just.....”

”Hmm?”

”The Kingdom of Flame over there......”

”No need to worry about the Kingdom of Flame.”

As Fang Zheng spoke, he glanced at the expanding swarm not far away.

”If they really want to take advantage of this opportunity to cause trouble...... I’ll give them a lesson they’ll never forget.”

”..........”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s response, Fina’s expression became complex. As the Pope, she naturally knew of the swarm’s presence on the Western Continent. The appearance of these swarms here also indicated the relationship between the creature and Fang Zheng. Thus, if the Kingdom of Flame dared to stir up trouble while the Magitech Nation and the Kingdom of the Holy Church were teaming up to attack the Twilight Frontier, then the swarm from the Western Continent might directly swoop in and erase the Kingdom of Flame.

For Fina, the devastation of the Kingdom of Flame’s lives wasn’t something she wished to see, but Fang Zheng’s actions weren’t wrong either. After all, if the Kingdom of Flame was really blinded by greed, they were asking for death......

”Then, everything is entrusted to Mr. Fang Zheng.”

”Rest assured.”

Fang Zheng nodded.

”Now, we both need a bit of time, and once I sort out this trouble, the entire Twilight Frontier will be ours for the taking!”

Whether it’s stabilizing the base defenses or mobilizing the armies of the Magitech Nation and the Kingdom of the Holy Church requires some time, and during this gap, Fang Zheng decided to initiate an official instance, venturing into another world.

This time, he was going to play the protagonist!!

The radiant brilliance reappeared, enveloping Fang Zheng.

Unlike before, Fang Zheng did not immediately enter the new world. Instead, he closed his eyes, his divine sense swept through the emptiness of all things, and soon, in his eyes, the fate of all beings formed lines of destiny threads, spreading in all directions. Soon, Fang Zheng quickly found one flying above, more radiant than any other thread.

That was the protagonist destiny of this world!

It’s him!

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng unhesitatingly shot his divine soul out, merging into that thread.

Soon, everything unfolded anew.

For Fang Zheng, this was more like the protagonist’s background setting at the beginning of a game---he clearly observed his birth, growth, and life scenes on the ”screen,” all like movie montages passing quickly. But Fang Zheng knew these weren’t important, just like how game’s opening animations are often to acquaint players with the protagonist’s lineage; these were merely similar things.

Finally, everything returned to darkness.

At the same time, the game began.

Fang Zheng opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was an azure sky, and the sound of clanging tracks echoed in his ears. The scenery in front of him flashed quickly past the window, appearing quite dull.

This was his body in this world.

Fang Zheng lowered his head, taking a glance. The appearance was no different from his own, just slightly younger, about high school age. Given that it was condensed from his divine soul, it wasn’t surprising.

And next, he was to act according to the ”protagonist” journey of this identity and complete it. Like how Nanoha obtained the Heart of the Rising Sun to become a Magical Girl, or how Sakura began collecting Clow Cards; only after accomplishing these would his ”protagonist destiny” in this world truly be secured.

But......what kind of world is this, exactly?

Fang Zheng turned to look around. Judging from the train’s setup, it should be modern. Then what type of ”story” would this be? Currently, he was identified as a Japanese high school student......Ah, a proper protagonist destiny. Now it’s just a matter of whether he could summon Heroic Spirits to fight in the Holy Grail War, or encounter some demon monsters, or whatnot?

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but feel eager. This body was condensed from his divine soul, though not the main body, its powers remained. Of course, Fang Zheng also noted he couldn’t use divine arts or immortal techniques in this world, indicating the power level here seemed not high; at most, it might be to the caliber of some special forces?

But his physical prowess was still there!

No matter the type of villain, whether it’s the apocalypse or some special secret agency, bring it on; let them see what true protagonist aura is! Even without divine arts or magic, with the Primordial Fire, anyone who dares to challenge meets their end! Hahaha, a mere low-magic world, isn’t that simple for me?

But speaking of it, he wasn’t alone......

Thinking of this, Fang Zheng raised his head and looked across from him. In the seat opposite sat a girl who looked about his current age, with long white hair, wearing a white dress, and with a gray rabbit beside her. This girl was silently gazing out the window, seemingly appearing to be in a sulking mood.

Hmm...... Fang Zheng remembered in the ”protagonist setting,” she seemed to be his sister, named......

”...Sora, what are you looking at?”

Looking at the girl in front, Fang Zheng asked.
