Chapter 508: Chapter 507: The Secret Hidden Beneath the Tip of the Iceberg (Part 2)

Although the entire underground sewer was a complex maze, with the chains leading the way, Fang Zheng soon found Nymph, the javelin, and Fina. At that time, the three of them were hiding at an entrance of a sewer, quietly peering towards the other side. Seeing Fang Zheng’s arrival, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, it’s so good that you are unharmed.”

”It looks like you haven’t encountered any danger either.”

Facing Fina, Fang Zheng nodded as well. At this moment, Fina had put back on her High Priest robe. But perhaps because she had been soaked in water for too long before, the cleric robe clung wetly to her body, hugging the girl’s figure so tightly that when Fina bent down, Fang Zheng could even see the fabric that clung tightly to her skin, refusing to obey the laws of Newton and outlining her full, round curves... Hmm, there was a certain charm in this view.

Thanks for the treat.

Muttering silently in his heart, Fang Zheng immediately averted his gaze and looked towards Nymph.

”Where is our big friend?”

”At the end of this passage, Master.”

Nymph reached out and pointed in that direction.

”I sensed it moving this way earlier, but it hasn’t moved at all since then.”

”Good.”

After receiving Nymph’s reply, Fang Zheng nodded, then turned his head and made a gesture to the others.

”Let’s go check it out. Iona, Nymph, you two come with me. Lady Fina, you follow behind. Javelin, protect Fina well.”

”Understood.”

Having issued the command, Fang Zheng stepped into the sewer in front of him, following the direction Nymph had pointed, moving forward.

The entire sewer was deathly silent; one couldn’t even see the rats or other small creatures that might usually be found underground, not to mention weeds or similar things. What’s more, en route Fang Zheng had already noticed that this place was quite peculiar. This sewer wasn’t constructed using concrete or similar materials like Fang Zheng might have imagined, nor was it simply a hole dug out. Instead, everything seemed artificially made.

But as Nymph had felt previously, this was just an outcome. In his investigation, Fang Zheng also found that the entire place exuded the sense that a goddess had said, ”I want a bath that won’t get disturbed or spied upon, comes with beer and sausages, and won’t clog—basically a hot spring I can use for a lifetime,” and then it simply came into existence like that.

As for how this thing was excavated, any crafts or architectural principles involved in its construction were completely skipped over.

Is this goddess even reliable?

By now, the previously upright and radiant image of the goddess in Fang Zheng’s mind had completely collapsed, replaced by one that he simply didn’t know how to describe... but no matter what, it didn’t seem to have anything to do with words like respect or sanctity, did it?

I hope the so-called Guardian of the Goddess isn’t something similar.

Thinking this, Fang Zheng sighed. He had come here to see if he might unlock the secrets of the Goddess of Creation’s civilization and technology. But now, it seemed his plans had come to naught. If all the creations of the Goddess of Creation were the kind that ”disregard the process and only cared about the outcome,” then he had gained nothing at all.

However, Fang Zheng also suspected that the power of the Goddess of Order to create the world might be different from the power she herself used. From the canonical texts, he knew that the Goddess of Order imparted knowledge and skills of civilization to the people of this continent, things that required ”process,” not as simple as ”just do as I say.”

From his earlier conversation with Knight Commander Wells, Fang Zheng had learned that this world indeed possessed its own system of order, including the Power of the Stars and various other forces, orders, and laws.

The connection between these things was quite tight, unlike the power here, which only cared about the outcome and whose process seemed entirely random. This meant that the knowledge taught to the people of the continent by the Goddess of Order should be different from the powers she used.

As Fang Zheng was contemplating, he and his companions passed through the underground sewer and arrived at another exit. This place was also a huge space, but judging from the drainage pipes around it, it seemed to be a place used to integrate and divert water from the sewer. At this moment, here in this space, Fang Zheng finally saw the true form of the ”Giant of Light” mentioned in the Fino Knight’s records for the first time.

It looked like a combination of energy and armor. On the armor of the Giant of Light, there were patterns of white background with gold-trimmed edges. The armor of the Giant of Light consisted of a helmet, shoulder armor, chest armor, gauntlets, a waist skirt, and war boots. As for parts not covered by the armor, they were composed entirely of light, giving the appearance of a non-solid entity, similar to a magical creature. Fang Zheng saw no longsword or any other weapon in the hands of the Giant of Light.

Still, through the marks on the armor, Fang Zheng could tell it had been through many tough battles, and these marks were not ancient; some were even falling off as the Giant of Light moved. This increased the likelihood that the Giant of Light was one of those defenders who eradicated demon creatures.

But what was it doing here? No matter how you looked at it, this place didn’t seem to be the core area of the region.

”Nymph, can you analyze it?”

”It’s difficult, Master. I can sense a kind of force field protection around the target’s body, and if I try to intrude, it’s very likely that I will be discovered,”

If it had been the original Nymph, she probably would have acted without a second thought, but clearly, the unreasonable way in which this Goddess relic had been created had dealt Nymph a considerable blow, so now the Little Angel began to speak with much more caution.

Who knows how the Goddess created this thing.

What if at the beginning she thought, ”I want to make an invulnerable bodyguard”...

”Why don’t we just go over and try to communicate with it?”

Clutching the scepter in her hand, Lady Fina also offered her opinion.

”Since the other party is a Guardian of the Goddess, then they should not be our enemy. As children of order, why can’t we use language to communicate?”

”I doubt very much whether this thing has the ability to communicate with others. Even if it does, it is difficult to say whether the values from that era are consistent with our own,”

Mr. Fang Zheng was not very optimistic about Lady Fina’s suggestion. To him, the object seemed more like a rigid automatic defense system rather than an artificial intelligence capable of independent judgment. The evidence for this was that the Fino Knights had followed it for a while, and if the thing really had its own will, it certainly could not have failed to observe the existence of Fino and the others, but it completely ignored those Holy Knights. It wasn’t absolutely certain, but deep underground, faced with a ”Gundam” over eighty meters tall, Fang Zheng decided that it was wise to be cautious.

”—————”

Before anyone could reach a conclusion, the Giant of Light suddenly lifted its head. It seemed to have noticed something and, without a word, turned and walked to the opposite side. Then Fang Zheng saw the Giant of Light approach another wall not far away, and it seemed to press something on the wall. Next, the Giant’s figure flashed and was swallowed up by a flash of light, disappearing without a trace.

”Let’s go take a look.”

Seeing the Giant of Light disappear, Fang Zheng quickly led the others out of the underground waterway to the wall where the Giant had vanished. It was only then that they discovered a pattern on the wall that looked like a Teleportation Array, clearly a Teleportation Gate connected to some other place.

”Master, let me try,”

But this time, before Lady Fina could speak up, Nymph raised her hand.

”Do you have a way?”

”Yes.”

In response to Fang Zheng’s question, Nymph nodded almost imperceptibly, then she looked at Miss Cleric nearby and through telepathy, directly provided Fang Zheng with an answer in the depths of his mind.

”If my judgment is correct, then the Holy Light used by Lady Fina should just be a single energy frequency fluctuation. If we can replicate this fluctuation, then it should be possible to activate it even without Holy Light and devout faith. If that’s the case...”

”It would prove indeed that the Goddess of Order comes from a higher civilization.”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng understood what Nymph meant. If the so-called ”devout faith” is merely a decoration, and one could activate it without this faith, then it means everything is still within their capacity to comprehend.

But before that...

”First, we need to determine the location of the Teleportation Gate. I certainly don’t want to be teleported to some godforsaken place.”

”Understood, Master.”

Hearing this, Nymph nodded, then flew up with her wings spread and quickly arrived at the spot where the Giant of Light had stood. She closed her eyes and reached out her hand. Soon, Fang Zheng saw a faint light emanating from around the Little Angel’s body, and at the same time, the Teleportation Gate before them began to flicker with Radiance, as if being activated...

”Master, the investigation is complete and it can indeed be activated. The location of this Teleportation Gate appears to be on the surface. If my predictions are correct, its coordinates are roughly inside Chaos Land. We should be at a considerable distance from our camp...”

”Hmm...”

Upon hearing Nymph’s response, Fang Zheng fell silent for a moment, then he made a decision.

”Nymph, activate the Teleportation Gate, let’s leave this place!”

”Yes, Master!” freewebnøvel.coɱ
