Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 502: Chapter 501: This Small and Unique Thing is Really Something!

Hearing Nymph’s warning, Fang Zheng also heightened his alertness. However, contrary to his expectations, these rays of light did not pose any harm to Fang Zheng and the others. Instead, they just kept changing, as if scanning something. After a moment, the radiance gradually disappeared, and the originally pitch-black underground space began to brighten.

Warm orange light emerged from behind the lines around them, turning the originally somewhat distorted and eerie lines into strips of lights. This sight somewhat relaxed Fang Zheng, as the warm colors appeared more comfortable than before, which felt almost like the descent of an Evil God.

And the present ”splendorous and magnificent” sight also conformed more to Fang Zheng’s notion of a deity in his mind.

”I can sense the fluctuations of signal transmission... It seemed to be scanning and checking... Master.”

”So, we passed the check?”

Fang Zheng wasn’t surprised by this. On the contrary, this further deepened his speculation that the Goddess of Order belonged to a higher civilization. Now, it seemed that although the Lady Goddess had some differences in aesthetic tastes, at least she appeared to share some common ground in other aspects.

But then again, if they were completely different, the civilization of this world wouldn’t be so easily acceptable to Fang Zheng either.

”Rumble rumble rumble...”

At that moment, the ground began to tremble slightly, and Fang Zheng heard a rumbling sound coming from beneath the floor. Then, he felt his body sway a little, and saw the floor they were standing on slowly descending.

So, was this some kind of large elevator? But this thing wasn’t made to transport humans, was it?

Fang Zheng looked around, only to see that the size of this floor was as big as two soccer fields. If it was used to transport ordinary people, it would be too large. Or was this an elevator specifically for the Goddess? But then again, what exactly did the Goddess look like? This topic wasn’t mentioned in the scriptures of the Sanctuary...

”Nymph.”

Fang Zheng shook his head, setting the topic aside, and then looked over to the Little Angel beside him.

”Can you tell how this thing works?”

”It seems to be some kind of gravity manipulation technology...”

At this point, Nymph’s face showed a puzzled expression.

”But it’s really strange...”

”Strange?”

”Yes.”

Nymph nodded.

”Based on my perception, the operation of these devices... it seems to be just an outcome, omitting the process.”

”I’m sorry, could you explain that more clearly?”

Fang Zheng expressed that he completely did not understand Nymph’s explanation. Being just a programmer who hadn’t studied at MIT, he hoped the Little Angel would explain in a simpler, more understandable way.

”Simply put... Master, you should know that everything in this world is the result of various forces interacting. Take the elevator we’re riding, for example. Humans would use physical methods to generate ascending or descending forces. Like electric lights, they need electricity as energy to stimulate various reactions before making the light bulb bright, right?”

”That’s correct...”

This part Fang Zheng could understand. Simply put, the Little Angel’s meaning was that normally, people control the ”process,” such as with elevators, they use equipment to control the lifting force, then ensure the elevator smoothly reaches and stops at a certain floor. But if humans lose this ”control” of the process, the elevator would ”fall.”

”But the equipment here is completely different.”

As he watched the elevator slowly descending, Nymph wore a puzzled expression.

”I just tried to analyze it and found that apart from the terminal values being fixed, the process itself is completely chaotic, hard to understand and infiltrate. That is to say, the ’smooth arrival at the destination’ of this elevator ride has been predetermined, but the ’process’ of getting to this result has been completely omitted!”

”.........Is that even possible?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng felt as if he were listening to a fantasy tale. I could understand if you talked about reversing cause and effect, but to skip the process completely and arrive at the result—what kind of sorcery is this? Wait, if that’s the case, why not just use a teleportation array instead of an elevator?

”Yes.”

Nymph also found it hard to accept, clearly thinking this contraption was utterly illogical. If it were some incomprehensible process resulting in the outcome, perhaps the Little Angel wouldn’t be so frustrated. One could only say this world is mysterious, and there’s still much we haven’t discovered.

But to tell me the entire process is chaotic and random? That’s really bizarre.

It’s like someone writing a story, where the hero kills an enemy, and he dies.

What? How did he die? Maybe he was shot, maybe poisoned, perhaps he committed suicide, perhaps he was angered to death, or maybe he accidentally fell to his death. Why do you care so much? He’s dead, isn’t that enough for you to know?

Would readers accept that? Of course not.

And right now, Nymph felt just like those readers... utterly unacceptable!

It seems that the Goddess of Order’s divine power is really quite extraordinary.

Facing a conflicted Nymph, Fang Zheng too was lost in thought. He possessed the Soulstone of the Ritual Snake, known as the God of Creation, and had even created a world with his own hands. But even the ”Void Domain” created by the Ritual Snake wasn’t completely devoid of processes, like when he previously needed to absorb desires from the Followers of the Crimson Realm or use Black Katie as a medium, eventually opening a gateway between two realms; these all required processes.

It wasn’t as simple as Fang Zheng saying, ”Let there be light,” and then there was light.

However, according to Nymph, everything about this place seemed just like that, saying ”Let there be light” and then there was light. The ”process” they were undergoing on the elevator to reach their destination itself was also quite random, completely lacking a fixed, observable characteristic.

This feels like the attributes of Chaos! Could something used by the Goddess of Order really be like this?

”I have a feeling that the plot is becoming more cliché by the moment; it wouldn’t end up with a classic twist where the final boss turns out to be the boss, would it?”

Looking at the elevator in front of him, Fang Zheng muttered to himself, while Fina beside him cast a curious glance at him, wanting to say something, but ultimately keeping silent.

”Boom!”

After an unknown amount of time, the elevator finally came to a slow halt, and then, before Fang Zheng and the others’ eyes, the previously shut doors rotated into two spherical shapes, then split open. Following that...

”Ying... Ying...”

Accompanied by some odd noises, Fang Zheng and the others saw several creatures, about the size of small dogs, round and seemingly limbless, rolling out from inside. They wobbled over to Fang Zheng and the others, then opened their mouths, emitting ”ying ying” noises. These creatures looked like some sort of animals, only they had a round body, a long, cattle-like tail, and a pair of round, large eyes and mouths...

What on earth are these? Pets of the Goddess of Order?

Looking at these strange little creatures in front of him, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but comment.

These quirky things are really something!
