Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Ten dishes, including fish, meat, and seafood. It really was quite a feast.

Lv Beiguang took three bottles of wine out of his bag and placed them on the table. ”This is five-year-old wine, brewed from grain imported from Russia. Let’s give it a try today.”

The other people laughed; these men really enjoyed their drinks.

Ding Shihong sat down, chatting and joking with everyone.

She Xiaoyun was taking care of the three kids.

”Director Jiang, how is life over there for you?”

Jiang Xinyu smiled, ”Not bad. At first, it was really difficult to adapt, especially to the weather. But after being there for a few years, I feel it’s a bit better than home, it’s not so dry.

I also had trouble with the food, too spicy and hot, mostly lamb. I brought back some of their peppercorns and chilies for you all to try.

The language was incomprehensible. When I first got off the train, I was afraid to move. I asked around a lot but felt like a chicken talking to a duck. In the end, I had to go to the police station.

Being pregnant at the time, I didn’t want to stay in the dorms, so I found an apartment locally. The people there were indeed very warm and welcoming.

I even found an elderly lady to help take care of the kids, so I didn’t have to miss classes.”

Although Jiang Xinyu spoke calmly, everyone knew the difficulties a woman faced alone out there.

”Director Jiang, you’re tougher than us men. I truly admire you. You had the courage to go over a thousand kilometers away to study on your own. I couldn’t have done it,” Liu Yuwei said with a smile.

”Director Jiang, how come your husband isn’t here today? We should meet your brother-in-law; we don’t want to be strangers next time,” Cao Xuelian asked curiously.

Jiang Xinyu lowered her head, and suddenly the atmosphere in the room became a bit awkward.

Everyone exchanged glances, feeling uneasy inside.

Jiang Xinyu lifted her head and calmly said to everyone, ”We’re separated, it’s just me and the kids now.”

The atmosphere in the room became even stranger.

The men didn’t know what to say.

”Xinyu, it’s fine, you have us. Any of us can lend you a hand,” She Xiaoyun pat Jiang Xinyu’s shoulder.

”Yes, yes, sister, if you ever need anything, just let us know. We’re all here for you, whatever you need,” Ding Shihong hurriedly chimed in.

Hao Shichao sighed, ”Sister, don’t worry, Brother Ding and Secretary She are right. We’re here too. We can handle the men’s work, and if you don’t have time for the kids, our wives can help too.”

The rest of them also started speaking up, offering their help.

”Thank you all, thank you for taking care of me,” Jiang Xinyu felt truly touched. Although she wouldn’t trouble anyone, she appreciated their kindness.

”No need to be polite. We’ve known each other for years, don’t be a stranger,” Liu Yuwei felt a strong sense of compassion.

They were all about ten years older than Jiang Xinyu, and truly treated her like their own sister. Being abandoned by a man, they felt unsettled for her.

Besides, they thought only a blind fool would abandon such a good girl.

The atmosphere in the room wasn’t as lively as before; everyone was worried about Jiang Xinyu’s feelings.

”Everybody, don’t be like this. I’ve come to terms with it long ago. It’s fine, really.”

She said it calmly, but no one felt comfortable eating and drinking heartily in this situation.

Seeing this wasn’t working, Jiang Xinyu hurriedly took the wine bottle from Lv Beiguang and stood up, pouring the wine into everyone’s glasses.

Finally returning to her seat, she picked up a water glass, ”I’ll use water instead of wine to thank all my brothers for their support.”

Everyone raised their glasses, and after drinking, the atmosphere improved a lot.

She Xiaoyun immediately lightened the mood, and everyone began chatting and laughing.

The three kids were well-behaved, sitting aside eating their food quietly.

”Oh right, I brought back some enamelware from there. It’s really beautiful, please take it home with you.”

”What kind of enamelware? When I carried them in earlier, they felt quite heavy.”

Jiang Xinyu carefully stood up, opened a bag, and took out the enamelware to show everyone.

”I love this pattern. All of you have the same design, thanks to my classmate’s husband who helped get them from the factory.

So there weren’t designs to choose from, take a look.”

”So many? How did you bring them back?” Lv Beiguang picked up a large basin, which indeed had some weight.

”I mailed them in advance. I had to bring my two kids, couldn’t bring them back myself.”

”They’re really nice, good quality too.” She Xiaoyun couldn’t stop admiring them.

Women have no immunity against beautiful things.

”I’m glad you all like them; each of you gets one set.”

”Thank you, Xinyu, I really love it.”

These people were smart; without mentioning the large basin, two medium-sized ones, two lidded small ones, a tea mug, and teapot, the shipping alone wouldn’t have been cheap.

All felt grateful from the bottom of their hearts. Director Jiang knew how to handle things. They all felt a bit moved inside.

The three kids had had their fill, so She Xiaoyun let them play outside, reminding them not to go too far.

Now, only the adults were left in the room. She Xiaoyun sighed, ”Xinyu, you’re still very young, taking care of children alone is hard. You should start a new family.”

The other men couldn’t say this, but they all thought the same.

Jiang Xinyu smiled, ”Sister She, I’ll just keep living this way. I found a master, almost sixty years old, who teaches the kids skills and knowledge, and when they’re older, I’ll send them to school.”

”Xinyu, is he reliable?”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”He’s reliable, recommended by a friend. Besides, I’ve hired him for two years already, he seems trustworthy.”

”Alright then, Xinyu, but you can’t just think about the children. You should also think about yourself. You’re only twenty-one, you have a long life ahead. It’s too much of a compromise to live like this.”

”Sister She, I have no plans for now, let’s talk about it later.”

They all imagined that Jiang Xinyu must have suffered greatly.

So they stopped persuading her, thinking that in a few years, when Jiang Xinyu is still young, the kids will have grown and be more understanding, and she might finally move on.

Ding Shihong went out for a moment to check on the kids and reminded the staff to help keep an eye on them.

Lv Beiguang looked at Jiang Xinyu sitting not far away, seeing the strain on her face; that foolish man truly caused her harm.

Such a good woman and he didn’t know to treasure her? She’s someone he could only hope to have but couldn’t; yet she was hurt?

His heart ached subtly, feeling for her having to care for two kids alone, feeling for her getting hurt and wronged. He silently vowed to take better care of her in the future.
