Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

The next morning, Jiang Xinyu forced herself to get up, pinching Wei Kaiyun several times. How infuriating! The more she begged for mercy, the more he added fuel to the fire.

She pulled up a bucket of water from the well and used the duck frame to make soup and porridge.

After the four of them finished eating, they played in the yard.

”Shi Jing, Feifei, is there anything you two want? Today, the craftsmen are coming. If you have any requests, we can ask them for help.”

”Mom, I want a swing, like the ones in picture books,” Jiang Shijing said with a big smile.

”Sure, that can definitely be arranged. How about you, Feifei?”

”Mom, I don’t know for now. Even if we have it, we can’t come live here, right?”

Jiang Xinyu helplessly spread her hands; indeed, there really wasn’t time to come and stay here.

”Do you two want to go with Dad to the supply and marketing cooperative? We need to buy some groceries.”

The kids were, of course, willing, so the three of them set out together.

At home, only Jiang Xinyu was left. Yesterday, while tidying up the kitchen, she noticed something odd. It wasn’t that she wanted to keep it from Wei Kaiyun, but rather it was hard to explain, so she decided not to tell anyone.

Excitedly, she closed the main door and went to the kitchen. She moved the cupboard, and the wall behind it seemed a bit off. She knocked on it and found it hollow, but she didn’t know what to do next.

Her hands groped the wall back and forth but discovered nothing. She squatted down and felt as if she stepped on something.

Jiang Xinyu found a peculiar spot, and when she stomped on it, surprisingly, the wall opened.

She quickly took out a flashlight and shone it inside. Wow, there were so many boxes; she had no idea what was inside.

She opened the topmost box and found a piece of porcelain, remarkably well-preserved, wrapped in cotton cloth.

Hurriedly, she put it away and opened the next box beneath it. More porcelain, but this box had mostly plates. Jiang Xinyu didn’t have time to inspect them closely and put them away as well.

The third box contained some ornaments that looked quite beautiful, so she stored them too.

The top boxes in the second stack contained books. Three boxes were filled with paintings and calligraphy.

The third stack contained gold, silver, and jewelry.

The three large boxes were packed full; there truly was a lot of stuff.

The last three boxes contained jade ornaments and jewelry.

Jiang Xinyu packed them all up, her heart nearly leaping out of her chest, having never seen so many things which now belonged to her.

No, wait, could they belong to Old Mr. Xing? Just thinking about it was disheartening — after all that work, it had nothing to do with her? Jiang Xinyu directly carried out the last small box.

She restored the hidden door, blocking it with the cupboard again. Carrying the small box, she went back to her room, placed it on the table, and opened it, finding a letter and several books inside.

She directly opened the letter, and after reading it, she felt elated — these things weren’t Old Mr. Xing’s but the inheritance from an elder of the Xing Family.

The letter made it clear: whoever found it owned it, so it was hers.

Hearing a knock on the door, she immediately put the box away and went to open it.

The three of them returned, bringing with them eggs, some vegetables, and green onions and garlic.

”Wei Kaiyun, plant these in the garden. When we want to eat them, we can just pick them.”

”Okay! Do you two want to go with Dad?”

Over the past few days, the two kids had completely warmed up to Wei Kaiyun. He was no longer just labeled as ’Dad.’

Jiang Xinyu stored the groceries in the kitchen. There was also a large watermelon and a few peaches. Not bad, they’d have fruit to eat too.

She hung the watermelon in the well to cool it so they could have chilled watermelon later.

By nine-thirty, Han Xiangjun arrived, followed by two middle-aged men. They didn’t look like people who would own a house like this — just ordinary workers.

”Xiao Jiang, these two are the homeowners. This is Liu Xingwang, and this is Liu Xingguang.”

”Please, come inside.”

”Comrade, are you looking to buy these two houses?”

”Yes. I want to prepare houses for the two children, so they don’t have to worry about it when they grow up.”

”You want both houses?”

”Yes, both of them. What are your thoughts?”

”They were left to us by our grandfather, but we weren’t successful in the city and moved to the countryside after getting married. We haven’t lived here for over a decade.

This comrade, let me show you around.”

”Sure.”

Wei Kaiyun brought the two children inside as well, so the whole family went together.

Han Jianbin saw the two little kids and was delighted, but Feifei insisted on going along to look, so both brothers had to tag along, even though they really didn’t want to go there.

Han Xiangjun found the interactions between the three children amusing. The two brothers would be wrapped around their sister’s little finger in the future.

Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun inspected the layout next door; the door and window quality didn’t quite match up to the other side.

However, with a fresh coat of paint, it might hold up for a while.

The rooms were the same number, and there was a garden in the back, but there was no furniture, leaving it empty.

Then they went to the adjoining house, which was similarly arranged but seemed more organized than before.

Anyway, regardless, things looked particularly rundown.

Jiang Xinyu frowned as Jiang Feifei came over to hold her hand.

”Feifei, do you like it?”

The little girl smiled and nodded.

”Alright, folks, let’s step outside and talk, shall we?”

The two seemed a little worried, sensing the lady wasn’t very satisfied.

Back at home, they all sat in the living room just inside, and Wei Kaiyun brought over cool boiled water for the three kids to drink.

”Mr. Liu, I’m not very satisfied with the house. It’s in terrible disrepair, and if we wanted to live here, we would need to re-roof it and replace the doors and windows. Plus, there isn’t any furniture.”

”Comrade, we’re selling the house for only seven thousand.”

Jiang Xinyu just smiled, seeing their anxious faces, feeling a little pity since they seemed honest enough. Her intention wasn’t really to haggle for a lower price.

”So, may I ask about the furniture?”

”We took it back to the countryside. We couldn’t afford to buy then.”

”Oh,” Jiang Xinyu thought, judging by the materials of the doors and windows, their furniture was probably ordinary too.

”Alright then, I’ll buy it; the kids like it.”

The certainty in her voice brought relief to their faces, and both broke into smiles.

Both were straightforward and immediately produced the property certificates for the two houses.

Jiang Xinyu picked them up to take a look; fortunately, they were in their names; otherwise, this wouldn’t have worked out.

”Mr. Han, should we transfer the ownership first, or should I pay first?”

”Let’s transfer ownership first, and I’ll act as a guarantor, so both parties will be at ease.”
