Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Yu Xiaoli fell asleep while thinking, awakened by the sound of voices outside.

The courtyard was noisy and chaotic, and she sat up with a frown.

In the past, it was just her and her mother at home, Han Xiangjun coming home late, so she was used to the quiet. This sudden noise truly felt annoying.

Sitting up, she saw a woman going through her bag. Clothes and shoes were scattered all over the kang. Yu Xiaoli immediately became anxious.

”What are you doing?”

”Hehe, I’m just taking a look. These clothes are so pretty, the fabric feels nice, and you even have leather shoes? Give them to me.”

”Get out, get out of here.” Yu Xiaoli was furious, snatching back her clothes, disgusted by the woman’s filthy hands.

”What are you doing? I’m your sister-in-law!”

”Get lost.”

”You wretch, who are you telling to get lost? This is my house.”

The commotion inside alerted the people outside. Yu Ma hurriedly rushed in, seeing the scene inside, truly felt frustrated, this daughter-in-law was really foolish, ”Zhu Guiyun, what are you doing?”

”Mom, look, a married daughter dared to tell me to get lost.”

”Enough, put it down and get out.”

”Mom!”

”Get out.”

”This is my room, why should I leave?”

Hearing this, Yu Xiaoli knew what was going on. She immediately gathered all her clothes, not bothering to fold them, and stuffed them directly into her bag. While putting on her shoes, she saw that her shoes were covered in mud, and angrily took out a pair of cloth shoes to wear.

She grabbed her bag, bent down to pick up her shoes, and walked out.

”Mom, look at her attitude!”

”Shut up, you fool.” With that, she chased after Yu Xiaoli.

Yu Xiaoli walked into the courtyard with her bag, seeing everyone staring at her, suddenly realized that she would have to live here from now on. Looking at the six people in the courtyard, her heart sank.

”Dad.”

”Hmm, why have you come back? You’ve seen us all, so you better hurry up and go back.” He was really afraid of Han Xiangjun, originally telling himself to act as if he didn’t have this daughter anymore.

Yu Xiaoli nodded slightly. She really didn’t want to stay here.

”Dad, I’ve come back because of the household registration issue. I have to transfer my household registration out.”

”Hmm, I’ll go to the village head’s house later to get you a certificate, and you can go to the township police station to handle the transfer by yourself.”

”I understand. I’ll leave tomorrow.” She then greeted her older brothers and younger brother.

Yu Xiaolan came over, ”Big sister, how about you stay with me for the night? I live with Shuhua in the side room.”

Yu Xiaoli threw her shoes aside and followed Yu Xiaolan into the side room with her bag. Where was this a side room? It was just a shed.

After putting down her bag, she went straight outside, fetched water, and scrubbed her shoes.

Dinner was corn porridge, with corn kernels ground into large grits.

Yu Xiaoli’s face was somber, so the whole family remained silent.

After dinner, Yu Ba went out, and Yu Xiaoli felt slightly relieved.

”Mom, I’m leaving tomorrow. I came out in a hurry and didn’t bring any food tickets. Please make pancakes for me to take tomorrow morning. The rest I give to you and Dad.”

”Hmm, spend the night with Xiao Lan tonight.”

”Hmm.”

She sat there motionless, watching her sister and niece clear the table.

After a while, Yu Ba came back holding a piece of paper, handed it to Yu Xiaoli, ”This is the village certificate, take it to the township to get the transfer certificate.”

”Okay, I got it.” After waiting for more than another hour, everyone in the house fell asleep, but Yu Xiaoli couldn’t stand the mosquitoes filling the room.

She sat in the courtyard, deeply regretting her decision, pondering what to do next. Finding Han Xiangjun was out of the question, and of course, so was finding Jianbin.

Staying here wasn’t an option either. Fantasizing about Brother Xuesong, all hope shattered when seeing him today. Even if he wanted her to stay with him, she didn’t want it.

She stayed outside for over an hour, but was tormented by mosquitoes buzzing in her ears.

Returning inside, she heard her sister and niece’s soft snores, which only made her more annoyed.

Seeing the small space left for her, she was truly frustrated. She went back outside to sit in the courtyard.

Suddenly, she saw shadows outside the village, making her jump in fright. She intended to hurry back inside.

”Xiaoli, Xiaoli!”

Yu Xiaoli recognized it as Gao Xuesong’s voice, so she stayed seated instead of returning inside.

”Xiaoli, come out, let’s have a chat.”

Listening to the man’s cautious, pleasing voice, Yu Xiaoli was filled with disappointment, feeling like she had been blinded by lard.

”Xiaoli, don’t you want to talk to me anymore?”

Yu Xiaoli stood up and went straight back inside, questioning how she ended up walking this path for such a man, leaving the one who provided seven years of a privileged life, abandoning her son, what was she pursuing?

Lying beside her sister, there was no hint of sleepiness.

Touching the money at her waist, she felt much more assured. No, she had to go back to Han Xiangjun, even if he no longer wanted her, she must ask him to arrange her future life, no matter how fearful, she had to find him.

Thinking it through, Yu Xiaoli felt much more relaxed.

Early the next morning, Yu Ma really made five pancakes for Yu Xiaoli. After breakfast, she grabbed her bag, took the pancakes, said goodbye to her mother at home and left.

Just as she was leaving the village, Gao Xuesong emerged from the fields, startling her.

”Xiaoli, why are you ignoring me?”

”Brother Gao, we’ve both settled down, under the circumstances, it’s inappropriate for a man and woman to be together at night.”

”Xiaoli, how have you become like this?”

”Brother Gao, I have things to do, I must go.” She tried to turn around but was grabbed by Gao Xuesong.

Yu Xiaoli shook his hand off forcefully, ”What are you doing?”

”Xiaoli, I just miss you so much.”

Yu Xiaoli didn’t respond, turned around and walked away in big strides.

She now regretted deeply, in contrast to the eager anticipation she felt when coming back, filled with remorse and disappointment.

Her steps quickened, even faster than when returning, filled with urgency to leave here.

An hour later she arrived at the police station, took out the village certificate, requesting a transfer certificate.

She hadn’t studied as a child, and read along with her son.

Thinking about it made her eyes sting. She didn’t know if she’d have the chance to live with her son again.

After obtaining the certificate here, she went to the bus station, boarding the bus without hesitation. Determined never to return here again. Without comparison, there is no harm.

By the time she arrived in the city, it was already noon. She only had a few pounds of food tickets, reluctant to use them, but thirst forced her, leaving her no choice but to go home.

Yet seeing the tightly closed door, all her energy was exhausted.
