Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Jiang Xinyu set it down again, then pushed the cabinet back without using Wei Kaiyun at all.

Wei Kaiyun watched from the side, feeling distressed. As a man, he couldn’t shield his wife and children from life’s storms, and he couldn’t even contribute to their daily lives. From now on, all the burdens of life would fall on his wife’s shoulders.

”Alright, let’s leave now.”

”Hmm, I’ll take you back. I’ll find those five to come over. I won’t be able to stay by your side and take care of you, so I’ll have them look after you on my behalf.”

”Okay, it will be more convenient for us to stay in touch in the future.”

When Jiang Xinyu returned home, the two children were already awake and reading.

”Mom, you’re back? Where’s Dad?”

”Feifei, Shi Jing, your dad has something to do out.

You are both smart kids, I need to talk to you about something.”

The two children nodded, seeing their mother’s serious expression.

”Your dad might be in some danger, so for the next few years, you mustn’t mention him in front of others.”

”Mom, you mean we can’t tell anyone?”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”That’s right. We are doing this out of necessity. But he won’t neglect you, he’ll make time to see you as much as he can.”

”Okay, Mom, we understand. We won’t say a word to anyone.”

”In the future, if someone says you’re kids without a father, you mustn’t say anything either.” In truth, Jiang Xinyu wanted to say these two kids were adopted by her, but she was afraid it would upset the children and hurt their feelings.

”Okay, Mom, I understand. I’ll look after my brother and make sure we don’t say anything.”

”Good, you’re both such good kids.”

Jiang Feifei thought for a moment, ”Mom, my brother is almost four, can he start school?”

”Do you want to go to school? I thought you wanted to study with Master Shang.”

”That would be even better, Master Shang is the best teacher.”

”Yes, Master Shang is the best, but still, after you turn ten, you need to go to school.

Actually, I was thinking about sending you to school now, so you can make a lot of friends. I’m worried your childhood might be too lonely.

But it’s up to you to decide. You can discuss it with Master Shang before making a decision.”

”Mom, at my brother’s age, would he be in a Red Education Class?”

”Yes, he still can’t go to primary school.”

The two children thought for a moment, and Shi Jing nodded, ”Mom, let’s wait until I’m older to go to school. I don’t like children, they cry too much.”

Jiang Xinyu laughed, ”Shi Jing, aren’t you a child too?”

”But I don’t cry, do I?”

”Alright, I’ll respect your wishes.”

This made the two of them happy.

”You two play by yourselves. There’s a radio at home, do you want to listen to it?”

”Yes!”

Jiang Xinyu found it for them and then went to cook.

In the evening, Jiang Xinyu planned to make rice porridge and stir-fried eggplant with meat slices. The two children had no objections. But thinking about how Wei Kaiyun was leaving tonight, she decided to chop some meat and make meat pies instead.

As she worked, she reminisced about how Wei Kaiyun used to love eating meat pies.

By five o’clock in the afternoon, Wei Kaiyun returned, bringing back two large watermelons.

Smelling the aroma of meat pies, he smiled.

”Wife, let me turn over the pies.”

”Okay, I’ll stir-fry the vegetables. These are the last four pieces.”

The two children heard Wei Kaiyun’s voice and immediately ran out to stay by their father’s side.

They both knew that their dad would be leaving tonight and they wouldn’t see him in the morning, so they stuck to him especially close today.

Dinner was served in the courtyard. Wei Kaiyun set up the table, and the two children brought the small stools.

The aroma wafted through the courtyard, and the neighbors on both sides were also eating in the courtyard, knowing that Director Jiang, who got into college, was back.

The two families, smelling the fragrance of meat pies and hearing the children’s voices from the yard, looked at their own dinners and felt dissatisfied.

The family of four finished dinner by six thirty.

”Shi Jing, Feifei, do you want some watermelon?”

The two felt their stomachs, ”Dad, we can’t eat anymore.”

”That’s okay, we’ll eat it later. I’ve put it in the well water to cool; it’ll be nice and cold to eat later.”

At seven, someone knocked on the door. Wei Kaiyun got up to open it.

Five men followed him inside. The two children looked at them curiously.

”Shi Jing, Feifei, let me introduce you to them.

This is Uncle Zhang, Uncle Shi, Uncle Liu, Uncle Shen, and Uncle Cao.

Remember, no matter what happens, you can go to them. They will help you.”

The two children greeted them courteously.

At this time, Jiang Xinyu also came out from the house.

”Xinyu, let me introduce you, this is Zhang Bao Hua.”

”Hello, Director Jiang.”

They shook hands, ”I’ll be counting on you in the future.”

”It’s my duty.” He was someone who really didn’t like to talk.

”Xinyu, this is Shi Aimin.”

They also shook hands and exchanged greetings.

”This is Liu Jianming, and beside him is Shen Junkun.”

Jiang Xinyu shook hands with both of them.

”This is Cao Yitian.”

After they finished meeting everyone, Wei Kaiyun continued, ”I asked the five of you here today so you could meet Niang San.

I won’t be able to stay with Niang San from now on, so I’ll have to rely on the five of you, and also, please come by every week to report to Director Jiang about the situation of those we’re keeping an eye on.”

”Yes, we will complete our task.”

Wei Kaiyun gave them each other’s contact information, then the five took their leave without staying long.

After washing up, the two kids also went back to the west room.

Jiang Xinyu lay on the bed, feeling very wronged inside, but she dared not show it, not wanting to burden him.

After Wei Kaiyun finished his bath, he directly hugged his wife who was on the bed. This belonged to their passionate night.

He was about to leave again, to live the lonely life once more.

How could he not miss it? Wei Kaiyun felt like however much he tried, it was never enough.

”Wife, I really want to keep you all by my side.”

”Niang San wants to stay by your side too. None of us want you to leave.”

It wasn’t until midnight that Wei Kaiyun had to leave.

He got up, took a shower, changed clothes, went to the west room, and looked at the two treasures on the bed with warm eyes.

He leaned in and kissed their foreheads. Resolutely turning, he left.

Jiang Xinyu had already dressed and wanted to ride her bike to accompany Wei Kaiyun to the train station.

”There’s no need, I can go by myself. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be at ease with you coming back alone.

Wife, Xinyu, wait for me.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”Alright, Niang San will wait for you. Our family will definitely be reunited.”
