System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”How is it? Finished checking? What’s the result? Was it done recklessly?” In the tendon competition hall, Lu Bin, one of the judges, pressed the doctoral student from Xiangya Second Hospital who followed him.

The third round of the competition was still proceeding methodically, but he wasn’t too focused on others.

”Brother Lu, it wasn’t done recklessly. The suturing technique had traces to follow, dismantled by Professor Dong himself,” the doctoral student next to Lu Bin replied.

”Not done recklessly? Then what about these data?” Lu Bin frowned deeply.

Lu Bin is an attending at the Second Hospital, and a newly appointed attending who had just stepped down from being the chief resident not long ago.

This time, his name wasn’t on the list of participants from the Second Hospital who were pushed to compete, not even on the list of those who registered.

Two reasons for this: one, Lu Bin’s skills were too lacking, and participating would just be for the sake of participating; better to give the spot to the seniors who need it more.

Lu Bin’s practical skills couldn’t compare to the seniors, and now a completely unfamiliar name appearing in the arena he was responsible for made him uncomfortable.

The Young Physicians Competition, wasn’t this the prime stage for Associate Professors like Tong Yuan’an and Brother Jun?

In Lu Bin’s understanding, among young physicians under thirty-five in the province, the tendon suturing track was essentially designated for Wei Jianwen from the Second Hospital, Zhou Jian from the Third Hospital, and Ding Gaoqiu from the Provincial People’s Hospital.

Other associate professors and attending physicians from Xiangya Hospital were all on the ”vascular” and ”neural” suturing tracks.

The substantive organ suturing track was the main arena for general surgery and microsurgery.

As for the neurosurgery track, neurosurgery also had strong contenders.

How big is Xiang Province? Even at Xiangya Hospital, neurosurgery is impressively strong, and although they can’t quite match hand surgery in neural suturing, they can’t underestimate them...

Lu Bin suspected Lu Cheng was acting recklessly because there had been such situations before.

Some contestants thought the organizers only considered a few sets of test data, so they sutured carelessly without adhering to clinical protocols.

The final result might have been good pull-test data, but the suturing cross-section was extremely disorganized, losing the practical meaning of a clinical skill competition, resulting in the tendon suturing scores being nullified.

And if Lu Cheng wasn’t recklessly suturing, then if this technique’s data is so much better than other ’popular techniques,’ it must be that someone has reached a new pinnacle in tendon suturing technique.

”What unit is this Lu Cheng from?” Lu Bin asked again.

”Long County People’s Hospital. It’s the place where many of our department’s teachers frequently go for rural assistance. It’s where Young Master Kun is,” replied the doctoral student.

Previously, one of the units Xiangya Second Hospital provided counterpart support to was Long County People’s Hospital, with most of the orthopedics team going to Long County People’s Hospital for rural assistance.

”Where did he study before?” Of course, Lu Bin didn’t believe Lu Cheng learned such transcendent techniques from the county.

”It’s not required and there is no registration for that,” the doctoral student replied.

Lu Bin nodded slightly: ”Then this competition might have some variables now...”

The doctoral student next to Lu Bin replied: ”I heard from a classmate that in the vascular track, Vice Director Zhou Qin from Hengda First Affiliated Hospital also achieved a great score of 93.”

”If Brother Wei makes a mistake, he might need to redo it to have a chance of catching up.”

All three Xiangya hospitals had recommended slots for hand surgery, but not many slots, fixed at six, two for each hospital.

The Second Hospital’s recommended slots were for Associate Professor Ding Mou and Attending Mao Yunhua, and Wei Jianwen had to participate on his own. Wei Jianwen originally planned to excel in the tendon suturing track, intending to focus on the semi-finals first.

”Has Chang City First People’s Hospital’s Zhang Kai competed?” Lu Bin asked again.

Certainly, the biggest competitors in Xiang Province were the internal struggles among the three Xiangya hospitals, but that was a battle among top professors.

Under thirty-five, the gap among everyone wasn’t that wide, with strong competitors also coming from Provincial People’s Hospital, Hengda First Affiliated Hospital, Chang City First People’s Hospital, and other hospitals.

This time, among the four tracks, only tendon suturing and vascular suturing are the strongholds of hand surgery, and whether hand surgery can even secure a place in neural suturing is still unknown.

”Haven’t heard yet!” The doctoral student assisting Lu Bin at the tendon suturing arena wasn’t a Master of All Knowledge, merely responsible for gathering information.

”Alright, let’s keep watching then...”

”...”

After finishing his competition, Lu Cheng didn’t immediately head back to the hotel to rest but instead went to other arenas to look at the comprehensive ranking boards.

Unfortunately, the display screen didn’t show each person’s unit, only names and scores.

But Lu Cheng, mingling in the crowd, learned that the vascular suturing main arena had notable scores from outside the Xiangya hospitals: Provincial People’s Hospital, Sha City First People’s Hospital, Shashi City Central Hospital, Chang City First People’s Hospital, Hengda First Affiliated Hospital, Yueyang City Central Hospital, and Zhuzhou City Central Hospital...

The highest score in vascular suturing was 97, from Hu Yi at Xiangya Hospital.

...

Lu Cheng then went to check out the neural suturing track and found the competition fiercely intense; although some from Xiangya Hospital’s hand surgery made the leaderboard, there were also many emerging experts in neurosurgery.

The current top three in the ranking were all from Xiangya Hospital.

Lu Cheng, quite familiar with, was introduced by Professor Tong Yuan’an to Associate Professor Gu Yanlin, currently ranked second in the neurosurgery track.

As for the current first place in the neurosurgery track, it was none other than Associate Professor Luo Lian from neurosurgery...
