System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Standing in the field of vision of both Lu Cheng and Du Qiang, neither could convince the other. Zhang Tiesheng couldn’t chime in on Lu Cheng’s words, and instead comforted, ”Take it easy.”

”Do your shift well.”

Of course, Lu Cheng wouldn’t lose his composure just because of Du Qiang’s sudden visit. He sat back down, ”Brother Zhang, you should head over to the ward as well, and by the way, check on the blood circulation of today’s limb replantation for me.”

”If there’s a problem, we need to spot it and deal with it promptly.”

Zhang Tiesheng rolled his eyes, jokingly saying, ”Pairing up with you feels like bad luck from eight generations.”

Zhang Tiesheng subtly expressed that Lu Cheng’s meticulousness could turn everyone into perfectionists, then turned to leave.

But as Zhang Tiesheng left the clinic room, after a moment’s hesitation, he decided to make a call to Director Lin Qianlong.

”Yes, Director Lin, just now Director Du from General Surgery came to the clinic to blow up at Lu Cheng.”

”He even slammed the table to pieces, seemed pretty mad. I think it’s better for you to handle this personally.” After reporting, Zhang Tiesheng put his phone back in the white coat’s pocket.

Murmuring, ”That Lu Cheng could save people... Lu Cheng’s capability really needs to be reassessed...”

...

When Lu Cheng called the equipment department to report the broken desk, he didn’t mention that it was smashed by Du Qiang. He just said it was old and got cracked when someone leaned on it.

It was already evening, and the equipment department only came to take a look, confirming that a corner of the desk was unstable but didn’t affect normal use, so they didn’t arrange repairs immediately.

Before Lu Cheng could see the next patient, Director Lin Qianlong rushed in dressed in casual clothes.

Upon seeing the broken table, his expression tightened, ”Xiao Lu, are you alright?”

”I’m okay, Director Du held back. I guess Director Du might be in trouble now.” Lu Cheng knew the desks at the hospital were not ordinary; it would take more than usual strength to smash them.

The force is mutual, and Lu Cheng even wondered if Du Qiang had fractured his hand.

”After Zhang Tiesheng called me, I also contacted Du Qiang.”

”But Du Qiang didn’t take my call. We’re not at fault here; that day, General Surgery’s patients essentially bypassed our emergency department and were directly rushed to surgery.”

”Those on duty didn’t have time to handle it, so they naturally didn’t know the specifics. Don’t take it to heart.” Lin Qianlong continued to comfort.

Lu Cheng shook his head, ”Director Lin, I didn’t take it to heart...”

Slightly conflicted for a moment, Lu Cheng explained, ”If I volunteered to the senior physician to take on critical emergencies, that’s when there’d be something wrong with my head.”

”Hospitals worldwide have the highest mortality rates, no one can say otherwise.”

Emergencies are truly urgent and life-threatening.

No matter how elite a hospital is, there are daily casualties in the emergency department, beyond human control.

”Mm, just concentrate on your shift.”

”I’m relieved that you’re okay; I need to step out.” Lin Qianlong looked around and saw no further need to linger.

Since Lu Cheng wasn’t injured, he didn’t need to arrange a replacement for Lu Cheng.

Being yelled at is a normal thing; if you could skip shifts after getting yelled at, the emergency department staff would have to be on standby for replacements every day.

Emergency department medical disputes are the highest.

Interestingly, after Lin Qianlong left, Hu Shuo, who was on duty in the internal medicine emergency room, knocked lightly on the clinic door.

”Xiao Hu. What’s up?” Lu Cheng looked up at the petite, youthful-looking girl.

Hu Shuo was a new internal medicine emergency doctor who joined in June. At twenty-six, she was about 1.52 meters tall, with a petite build and a cute face...

Having just joined, Hu Shuo comforted with a straightforward voice, blinking her almond eyes, ”Dr. Lu, want to grab bubble tea together?”

”Sure! Are you ordering or should I?” Lu Cheng asked.

Being colleagues in the emergency department, seeing each other often, grabbing meals or drinks together was common.

Sometimes when staff was short, people from internal and external departments would assist each other.

”I’ll order.” Hu Shuo quickly stepped in, ”Is Shuyi okay? They have a good jasmine milk tea... ordering for two is cheaper than ordering on-site...”

Lu Cheng nodded, not vying to treat, ”I’m easy with anything.”

Before Hu Shuo could pay, coughing came from next door, and she quickly put on a smaller mask and went out.

”Dr. Lu, I have a patient now.”

”Mm, go do your work. Thanks, Xiao Hu.” Lu Cheng responded politely.

If someone comforts you when you’ve been aggrieved, it shows you’ve been getting along well in the department.

If nobody cares about you in such situations, you’d need to consider if something’s off with your character.

Shortly, Lu Cheng was swamped by new surgical emergency patients.

Most were simple cases, with some involving stones, minor injuries, or small bumps discovered incidentally for a checkup.

Without special acute trauma cases, most cases were trivial...

The skill points earned were also trivial, with Lu Cheng, who could mainly diagnose and give treatment advice, gaining only between 0.1 to 0.2 skill points per case.

After seeing seventeen patients that night, Lu Cheng accumulated only 4.1 skill points, incomparable to his surgery shifts...

By eight the next morning, Lu Cheng’s shift ended normally, and Du Daihua arrived to take over.

However, Lu Cheng did not go home immediately after his shift ended; instead, he went straight to the ward to follow the rounds.
