Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

The massive Ice Spear Technique emitted waves of cold air. Before Bai Jin could launch the Ice Spear Technique, the cold waves had already penetrated Vorquis’s fragile inner defenses.

Vorquis clenched his teeth unwillingly. Facing such a ferocious attack, and with his mana depleted, he had no way to use Skill to block.

Even though under the effects of Princess Eena’s Magic Potion, his attributes had significantly increased, he still didn’t have the courage to withstand an Ice Spear Technique from Bai Jin.

Besides, what would it amount to after taking a hit from the Ice Spear Technique?

His opponent, the Magician, was capable of flying, which meant his following attacks would most likely miss, while Bai Jin could continuously bombard him with Frost Ice Arrows like a bomber from the air.

Being able to fly was almost too unfair. No, to speak of unfair advantages, we were on the same boat.

Yixuan’s injuries were severe, reducing his mobility, and he absolutely couldn’t compete with Bai Jin in the air. As for the Profession of Magic Potion Maker, its purpose was to provide support, offering Healing and enhancement, and not something one could rely on Princess Eena for offensive output.

Since that was the case, there was only one path left to choose.

Decisively sheathing his sword, Vorquis raised both hands,

”I surrender.”

Bai Jin dispersed the Magic Power gathered in her hands, and the formidable Ice Spear turned into mist, vanishing into the air. It so happened that the duration of Bai Jin’s Flying Magic also reached its limit, and she lightly descended to the ground.

Satisfied with his sword sheathed, Yang Yu looked toward Hapi, who was short of breath nearby, and Iyas who had put away her bow,

”Yellow Flower, heal them.”

Iyas genuinely disliked Vorquis, a man who spoke for himself and had once made unwelcome advances toward her, but she still followed Yang Yu’s command and raised her hand to release a gentle Holy Light, providing Sustained Healing to both Vorquis and Hapi.

After confirming that Vorquis and Hapi’s HP had fully recovered, Yang Yu signaled to Iyas and Bai Jin with a glance to step aside and wait, then he approached Vorquis and asked,

”Now that you have surrendered, are you able to honor the promise you made before?”

Vorquis averted his gaze, not daring to look directly into Yang Yu’s eyes, his lips trembling slightly, seemingly reluctant to admit his own defeat.

After struggling for a while, Vorquis managed to squeeze out a sentence,

”I understand... what you want.”

After saying this, however, Vorquis’s brow relaxed again, and he finally turned his gaze back to Yang Yu.

Yang Yu frowned.

Vorquis had probably convinced himself with thoughts like ”His Level is so high, but once I reach his Level, I’m sure I could easily defeat him,” or ”He only defeated me with a woman’s help, one on one, he’s no match for me,” securing a mental victory for himself, and that’s why he could once again face Yang Yu directly.

No matter how Yang Yu saw it, he thought this Hero was no good.

He didn’t know what criteria the goddess used to choose her champions, but choosing such a Hero, was she making it easier for me?

Originally, Yang Yu wanted to thrash both the Demon King and the Hero with his own strength, which is why he had chosen to come to this world as a Civilian.

If the Hero was too weak and any member of the Demon Clan could easily pin the Hero to the ground and pummel him when the Demon King arrived, then defeating the Hero would have no meaning.

Imagine an athlete on the national team racing against an average middle school student; there’s nothing to boast about if they win.

Victory over an equally matched opponent is what brings the most sense of Achievement.

Many pay-to-win mobile games, especially in the competitive arenas, are based on this principle, continually matching you with just the right opponents, enticing players to spend money in order to become stronger.

Dammit, Yang Yu inadvertently recalled the days when he was so addicted to the competitive arena of a game that he’d spend several payments of 648 a day.

Dammit, they were just digital wives, so why were they so alluring?

So now, Yang Yu spoke calmly with Vorquis, the Hero, deciding to share some tips on how to gain strength, to slightly improve his power.

It was Yang Yu who had first made an enemy of Vorquis; what did it have to do with Potato Thorn?

Again...

Yang Yu glanced at his Experience Bar. The Hero had brought him a total of over two hundred fifty thousand Experience, and even though he had just leveled up not long ago, he was now just one step away from Level One Hundred.

Defeating the Hero really did yield a great deal of Experience Value.

By pointing out some key things the Hero needed to be aware of, he could fatten up the Hero in advance, so he could harvest more Experience next time.

Yang Yu certainly didn’t want to encounter Vorquis next time and find that Vorquis hadn’t leveled up much; defeating him then would not yield any Experience.

Of course.

To execute this combination of moves, everything must still proceed in an orderly fashion.

Pretending to size up Vorquis from head to toe, Yang Yu raised his hand to point at the red cloak on Vorquis’s back,

”I think the cloak you’re wearing is pretty nice. Could you give it to me?”

Hearing Yang Yu’s request, Vorquis subconsciously tightened his grip on the cloak he was wearing and said:

”Can we trade it for something else?”

Yang Yu said decisively, ”No.”

With a bewildered look, Vorquis still hesitated before he let go of the cloak, took it off, and handed it over to Yang Yu.

Yang Yu took the cloak, but noticed that Vorquis’s fingers reluctantly hooked onto a corner of the cloak.

With a bit of force, Yang Yu finally wrested the cloak from Vorquis’s hands, swept his gaze over it, and the cloak’s attributes became apparent.

[Cloak Once Worn by a Hero], Quality: Common, Magic Resistance +10.

Magic Resistance +10, nothing else besides that.

No matter how many times Yang Yu checked, it remained the same; the cloak’s attributes didn’t change one bit, regardless of the angle he looked from.

This cloak was nothing more than a piece of decorative, tattered cloth.

However, although it was just a piece of tattered cloth for him, it might hold special significance for the Hero.

Since that was the case, he didn’t have to worry about struggling to find a topic to broach.

”It’s really unexpected that you’d hand over this item so readily,” Yang Yu said with a smile to Vorquis, ”How do you feel now?”

”Absolutely terrible.

If we fought another battle, I would not lose.

I’ll just let you hold onto this cloak for the time being. Once I’ve grown stronger, I will take it back from you!”

With that, Vorquis turned and walked away, resolutely taking firm steps.

”Saying you want me to hold onto it,”

Yang Yu spoke up:

”Now that I take a good look at it, this cloak isn’t really my style. I might sell it off one day.

You’re Vorquis, after all, still carrying out the assignments from the Goddess Sect, right?

I’ve had a slight change of heart.

Could I make a deal with you using this cloak?”
