Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Hapi?

Hapi are an extremely rare subhuman race, found only on a few islands of the Ocean Duchy. Their hands and feet are shaped like those of birds, which is the most recognizable characteristic of their kind.

The fact that this Hapi appeared here was definitely not a coincidence, especially since she also covered for the human troops.

Were humans domesticating her?

Scanning over the Hapi’s stats, Yang Yu found that her level was not very high, just level 64, with unremarkable data; her attributes averaged around five hundred, with speed being slightly more prominent.

With such attributes, and only one Hapi, what could she do?

Could she possess some special abilities?

Various thoughts raced through Yang Yu’s mind, but he didn’t stop his attack. On the contrary, he accelerated, aiming to take out the soldiers on the ground from Luo Ze before the Hapi could strike at him again.

Screams of human soldiers filled the air, and the Hapi didn’t continue to release Wind Blades at Yang Yu. Instead, she flew higher and crushed a white test tube held in her talons.

In an instant, the battlefield was engulfed in a dense cloud of smoke.

Fearing a trick by the enemy, Yang Yu took his squad and moved away from the battlefield to hide in a small thicket, watching the situation carefully.

At the first sign of trouble, Yang Yu planned to lead his troops in a swift retreat.

Countless soldiers from Luo Ze covered their noses and mouths, coughing softly in the smoke.

Then, amidst the smoke, a man slowly emerged; the mist dissipated upon nearing him as if losing all effect, and around him, it transformed into beautiful glimmers of light.

Bathed in the light’s embrace, the man slowly crossed the battlefield.

Despite the absence of wind, his magnificent cape still fluttered slightly, making him look impossibly handsome and charming.

Following the man was a pretty young woman, dressed simply, with a small backpack hanging on her, and multiple test tubes attached to her belt.

It was none other than the Heroic Warrior Volcrix, accompanied by Princess Eena of Serti.

As usual, his growth was quite exaggerated.

Fortunately, compared to when he left the All Things Library, Volcrix’s level had not increased by much.

If Heroic Warrior Volcrix had reached the same level as Yang Yu, what Yang Yu should be doing right now was not spectating here but decamping as the best course of action.

However, it seemed that they had been spotted.

The Hapi in the sky kept circling above Yang Yu’s head. If he didn’t find a way to completely deal with the Hapi, she would inevitably discover them, even if they attempted to escape.

Subhumans, to some degree, inherited abilities from other creatures, and the boastful pride of most bird species is their eyesight.

Yang Yu had no confidence whether the camouflage clothes that could fool human eyes would also deceive a Hapi.

To truly escape from Volcrix’s pursuit, one would have to completely leave the battlefield.

After much deliberation, Yang Yu stepped out from behind the thicket, resolving to test Volcrix’s intent for coming here.

If Volcrix truly sided with the Luo Ze Empire, he wouldn’t ignore the fallen troops of Luo Ze and emerge so leisurely.

Seeing Yang Yu walk out from the woods, Volcrix flicked his cape, and the white smoke behind him dissipated completely, transforming into a scattering of starlight.

”It is a pleasure to meet you, sir.

My name is Volcrix.

...umm... I am from the Goddess Sect.

We heard that an Enchanting Demon was spotted nearby, so we came here to investigate.”

”If this gentleman has any clues, please tell me.”

This gentleman?

Wait, Volcrix should have a System like me and be able to see my Basic Attributes and Name.

With his personality, upon seeing me again, he should have become enraged and started hacking away directly.

At the very least, he should be surprised to see why I’m here.

Observing Volcrix’s expression, it was exceedingly ordinary.

Yang Yu tentatively spoke up:

”My name is Potato Thorn, a Grand General from Wansheng Country. We haven’t heard of the Enchanting Demon you speak of.”

”So you’re the Grand General Potato from Wansheng Country, what an honor.

Could you please clear the way for us so we can continue our investigation conveniently?

Moreover, I’m very interested in that strange clothing you’re wearing.

Can you tell me where you got those garments from?”

”Why should I tell you, even though you belong to the Goddess Sect, you’re still human, what’s in it for me if I tell you?”

Volcrix was taken aback inwardly, finding it difficult without revealing his true identity.

”It’s nothing, just plain curiosity.”

”If it’s just plain curiosity, then I’m even less inclined to tell you,” Yang Yu sneered, lifting his head, ”We have no dealings with your humans.

Who knows if what you say is true or false, or whether you’re just using investigation as a pretext to spy on and assassinate Wansheng Country’s troops.”

”Since you think so, there’s no helping it,” Volcrix drew his Sword Blade, ”If I can defeat you, then you’ll answer my questions, right?”

Such a straightforward idea.

If defeating an enemy could make them spit out all their intelligence, I wouldn’t have to work so hard.

The Hero had not changed much, and Yang Yu felt somewhat displeased.

”Fine.

If you can beat me, I’ll tell you everything I know.

But such a battle would be a bit too boring.

If you win, I’ll give you the information you seek and some additional rewards.

But if you lose, as punishment, you’ll have to give me something from your possessions.”

Volcrix subconsciously grasped his conspicuous cloak, then slowly let go of it,

”Let me hear it, which of my possessions do you want?”

”What? Not confident in your own strength?” Yang Yu stared at Volcrix, ”These were your conditions to begin with. Weren’t you fully confident in your strength when you challenged me?”

”That’s right...”

Volcrix glanced away, but kept Yang Yu in the corner of his eye, uncertain why the memory of being defeated previously was surfacing again...

”Alright, I accept.”

As soon as Volcrix finished speaking, he began to fiddle with the panel in the air openly in front of Yang Yu, as if he were confirming something.

Yang Yu frowned and scratched the back of his head.

Speaking of which, this generation’s Hero is a bit... what?

Can such a Hero really save the world?

Seeing the camouflage clothes, even a fool should realize that besides oneself, there may be other players, and they should act more cautiously.

Before knowing about Volcrix, Yang Yu had practiced over and over, adjusting the usual items in his inventory for minimal movement during usage.

After knowing about Volcrix, Yang Yu practiced countless times more to ensure he could retrieve all items from his inventory in the most natural way possible.

Yet the Volcrix in front of him seemed to have never thought about this.

What he was most likely thinking was that since he’s the acknowledged Hero, any other character that appears must be an imposter, so there was no need to be discreet.

The Hero’s pride had been unchanged from the first meeting.
