Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 499: Chapter 499 In This One Week

Sitting on a wooden stake at the entrance of the Plant Clan village, Yang Yu gazed at the pale sky, waiting for the first rays of sunlight to penetrate the forest.

Unconsciously, Yang Yu had already spent a week in the Plant Clan village.

After being forced to accept that task, Yang Yu hadn’t tried to escape, only to find that outside the Plant Clan village, guards were stationed at intervals; each of his escape attempts ended with him being caught and brought back.

By the fifth covert attempt, Meiyu. Rose, who caught Yang Yu, was holding her forehead, telling him not to desperately test their limits, or else the next time he was caught, he’d be sent directly to a construction site to move bricks, without participating in the competition.

Given Meiyu. Rose’s very sincere attitude, Yang Yu eventually gave up on stealthily escaping from the Plant Clan’s village.

In fact, if the people of the Plant Clan really wanted to find Yang Yu, they could do so very quickly.

Yang Yu knew this; he was just trying to see if there was any way to escape from the village of the Plant Clan under hopeless circumstances.

As it stood, escaping was as hard as reaching the sky.

This race-leading task was already tantamount to a mandatory task.

Without completing it, he definitely couldn’t leave the Plant Clan’s village.

Since he couldn’t escape, Yang Yu shamelessly went from house to house, collecting intelligence on potential competitors who might attend the race, and in the process, he managed to snag a few meals and learn about the living customs of the Plant Clan, adopting local practices.

To Yang Yu’s surprise, ordinary members of the Plant Clan, apart from having a few plant-like features, looked no different from ordinary humans and couldn’t just bask in the sun and drink water to photosynthesize and sustain themselves.

According to Yang Yu’s understanding, even among the Upper Species and Rare Species, only a minority could photosynthesize to absorb nutrients; most of the Plant Clan still ingested food like other animals.

Interestingly, the children of the Plant Clan—at first glance, they appeared no different from ordinary human children, except for a small two-leaf sprout on their heads.

Initially, Yang Yu thought the sprout was fake, merely a decorative item; it was only when he casually pulled at it that he realized it was indeed a part of the child.

The small sprouts were just like human hair, no different.

Cutting them posed no problem; after a few days, the sprout would grow back.

Seeing these children, who were no different from humans, Yang Yu could only inwardly marvel; no wonder the Plant Clan was also considered a Sub-human Species.

While consulting various materials at the All Things Library, Yang Yu had seen several races that didn’t seem like Sub-humans, starkly listed under the Sub-human Chapter in the Library’s compilation of racial manuals.

Among them, the most conspicuous within the Sub-human groups was the giant dragon race.

That’s right.

In this world, giant dragons, these powerful creatures, were also considered a type of Sub-human.

And some races that would be considered Sub-humans in other games were not regarded as Sub-humans in this world.

Such as goblins, ogres, and the extinct Snow Woman.

A critical criterion for distinguishing Sub-humans from other Non-human races was whether two different species could produce offspring with traits from both parents, also known as Mixed Species.

Races that could produce mixed offspring with humans were generally classified as Sub-humans.

While those that couldn’t breed with humans or Sub-humans, or whose offspring only exhibited the features of one side, were classified as Non-human races.

For example, a goblin, no matter which race it bred with, would still only give birth to goblins.

While the methods of classifying Non-human races and Sub-human races were now understood, Yang Yu didn’t know who initially used this method to distinguish between Sub-humans and Non-humans.

”You have to understand, the height difference between some races is just too great; it’s unimaginable how they can coexist without being described.”

”The first time Yang Yu obtained the Plant Race Essence, he thought the Plant Clan was completely covered by plants, resembling more a plant race.”

”When he consulted the encyclopedia, Yang Yu saw that they were classified under Sub-human and was truly shocked, even had some doubts.”

”But those doubts had all dissipated.”

”To the outside world, the Plant Clan that was seen was mostly from the Upper Species or Rare Species, and the Lower Species, which looked just like ordinary humans, was well protected by them.”

”The sunrise slowly ascended, the sunlight dispelling the cold of the morning,” Yang Yu opened the team panel, his face once again showing the worry that he hadn’t seen in days.

”When the Plant Clan refused the request to protect Bai Jin and the others until they reached the village, Yang Yu had worried for a while that Bai Jin and the others might come directly to him without considering the situation.”

”However, after staring at his team column for two or three days and seeing that the Status Bars of Bai Jin and the others hadn’t changed, Yang Yu gradually felt relieved.”

”Apart from the slightly foolish Iyas, Bai Jin and Lotcar were quite smart and should have noticed that there was a trap set up.”

”That’s why Yang Yu had been able to fully prepare for battle over this week.”

”Meanwhile, Yang Yu also unintentionally developed the habit of glancing at the team panel every now and then.”

”This morning, as soon as Yang Yu woke up, he saw Lotcar’s stamina continuously depleting, a trend that persisted until now.”

”Yang Yu determined that it was unlikely to be Lotcar exercising in the morning, as Lotcar’s stamina wouldn’t have reduced so much if that were the case.”

”Nor was it likely that he was in a frantic escape, since,” Yang Yu observed for a while, ”the rate at which Lotcar’s stamina was being drained remained steady.”

”Furthermore, the Status Bars of Bai Jin and Iyas remained full, with no MP loss at all.”

”The most likely situation now was that Lotcar was carrying Bai Jin and the others and heading towards this location.”

”The Plant Clan’s autumn festival and the Silver Teeth Clan’s Full Moon Festival were equivalent to the Mid-Autumn Festival in Yang Yu’s memory.”

”But different races had different customs.”

”On this day, the Plant Clan would select the excellent individuals to obtain the rights to use the Racial Essence, whereas the Silver Teeth Clan would honor their ancestors through a battle performance.”

”Based on Yang Yu’s knowledge of the Plant Clan, if he really won the competition, the Plant Clan would most likely disdainfully grab his collar and kick him out, never wanting to see him again, rather than safely sending him back to the Silver Teeth Clan’s village.”

”With Yang Yu’s current speed, returning to the Silver Teeth Clan’s village was not slow.”

”The premise was that Yang Yu would not get lost in the forest, which was extremely difficult for him without a detailed map.”

”Unable to find a way to remove the Curse on himself and without his advice and strategies, Lotcar had no choice but to face defeat. That’s why Lotcar chose to take Bai Jin and the others on this adventure.”

”In Yang Yu’s eyes, this was indeed a good method.”

”At least, if he were in Lotcar’s place, he probably would have made the same decision as Lotcar.”

”Unfortunately, Yang Yu was not currently clear about the distance between the Plant Clan’s village and the Silver Teeth Clan, and he didn’t know how long it would take for Lotcar and the others to reach the Plant Clan’s village.”

”It was only his fault for, when he had done his research earlier, only the main activity range of the Plant Clan was listed, without specifying the exact location of the Plant Clan’s village.”

”If he knew the distance between the two places, Yang Yu’s worries might be somewhat relieved.”
