Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 487: Chapter 487: Stalemate

Bai Jin looked toward Iyas, who was holding a longbow with a sense of unease in her heart,

”Iyas, what’s wrong?”

”It’s nothing, probably just an illusion.”

Iyas shook her head, continuing to stare at the arrow that had pierced deeply into the wood, but there were no traces on it. Indeed, Iyas had felt a darkness similar to what she felt when fighting Kenro, but ordinary bows and arrows couldn’t possibly destroy a spiritual body that easily. Iyas also did not know what exactly she had sensed.

Lotcar left shallow footprints on the loose soil. Although the entrance to the hole was crudely filled, it was quite firm.

”I didn’t expect the Plant Clan to come knocking at this critical moment.

There is still over a week until the Full Moon Festival. We’re not far from the territory of the Plant Clan, and since we have her permission, it shouldn’t be a problem to follow her.

The only problem is...”

Lotgar trailed off.

They did not know who had told the Plant Clan about Yang Yu possessing the abilities of their race.

Ordinary people simply couldn’t possess the abilities of the Plant Clan at will, which is why before entering the village, Lotcar had specially warned Yang Yu to be careful to avoid exposing himself.

They had returned to Wansheng Country in a hurry, not staying long anywhere on their journey. Even if Yang Yu had used ”Thorny Binding” to deal with enemies, it couldn’t have possibly been spread back to the territory of the Plant Clan so quickly.

Lotcar could only think of one possibility.

Kai Bu had once colluded with the Curse Sect and would certainly not turn down a request from them.

Before returning, they had encountered people from the Curse Sect whose target had been something Bai Jin was carrying. The fight had been centered around that item.

But the fact that Lotcar was part of Yang Yu’s team had also been known to the members of the Curse Sect.

People from the Curse Sect must have been certain that they would return to the Silver Teeth Clan village, so they set up such a trap.

Lotcar shook his head inwardly, realizing he had underestimated the Curse Sect’s ability to act.

Carefully safeguarding the pink flower plucked from the rose branches, Bai Jin continued Lotcar’s sentence:

”The only problem is... this is very likely a trap, and our opponents may very well use this to lure us away from the Silver Teeth Clan’s village.”

”A trap? Are you saying the Plant Clan has a grudge against us?” Iyas tilted her head in confusion, ”But with the way Yang Yu is, it’s clear that our strengths are disparate. If they wanted to deal with us, why go to the trouble of luring us to the Plant Clan’s territory? Why not take action directly? Or is there some reason they must not confront the Silver Teeth Clan?”

”Brother...” Hake’s forehead was sweating profusely, realizing some things even himself understood, yet his sister seemed to have misunderstood something again.

”It’s not the Plant Clan.” Lotcar said decisively, ”What you just shot at, you didn’t actually hit anything. I still vividly remember what happened last time.”

”But that was probably just my imagination. A spiritual body can’t possibly be destroyed by an ordinary arrow. I’m still regretting not having used the ’Light Arrow’...”

”That’s probably not your imagination. I can hear it, a strange sound. It’s most likely not a spiritual body, but some sort of magic. Magic that mimics a spiritual body.”

Hearing Lotcar say this made Iyas suddenly realize, and she furrowed her brows, ”Isn’t that really bad? Is Yang Yu going to be okay by himself?”

”It’s hard to say,” Lotcar explained, ”Yang Yu’s powers come from the Racial Essence of the Plant Clan, and as far as I know, there is only one way to obtain the Racial Essence of the Plant Clan.

The Plant Clan always dealt with issues involving Racial Essence with the utmost caution, as it was dictated by their tribe’s method of survival.

The abilities of the Plant Clan were numerous and varied, but within the tribe, there existed the concept of Upper Species and Lower Species.

The reason Yang Yu’s abilities were suppressed was precisely because his ability belonged to a Lower Species under the roses.

”So, that woman just made some rather odd remarks... She said, ’just as I thought.’ That wasn’t only about Yang Yu possessing the abilities of the Plant Clan but was also about him having the abilities of her Lower Species?”

Bai Jin recollected the recent moments, which happened too quickly, like a tornado that came and went without warning, leaving few details worth savoring.

”Quite likely.

The Lower Species of the Plant Clan could almost never evolve into the Upper Species on their own. They could only undergo evolution through the Racial Essence during the annual autumn festival, where they had a chance to grow into the mighty Sky Trees.

Gathering the Racial Essence of the plants was incredibly difficult. Only the Upper Species were qualified and capable of amassing Racial Essence, and during collection, it was essential to gather the Racial Essence of different Upper Species to ensure the diversity of the tribe.

No matter how eloquent or clever Yang Yu might be, once he used the Racial Essence, he would not be able to escape responsibility.

The best-case scenario now was that Yang Yu would be forcefully kept to participate in the Plant Clan’s autumn festival, with his fate to be determined based on the outcome.

If Yang Yu could emerge victorious, there might still be a chance for reparations.

If he failed, however, who knew what treatment he would receive...

Even though the person who originally took away the Racial Essence was not him.”

Lotcar too was a candidate for Clan Leader, and as a tribe hidden in the dense forests, he naturally knew some secrets about the Plant Clan, their neighbors.

”Then, we should regroup earlier and strategize for him...”

Iyas hadn’t finished speaking when she suddenly recalled something she had just realized, biting her lower lip tightly.

”It looks like I do not need to remind you, Miss Iyas. Leaving this place would be playing right into their hands. We would also encounter danger...

Staying here actually might be safer, Kai Bu wouldn’t want to involve the village in the battle between the Curse Sect and us, the Curse Sect will certainly wait for us to leave before they act.”

Iyas, frustrated, scratched her head and ears,

”So what exactly should we do? Can we only wait for him to return by himself? Wouldn’t that make him the one in danger on the road? Right now, we do not know how many people have come. What if Yang Yu is captured, and they take him as a hostage to threaten us?”

”We’ve been thoroughly outmaneuvered,” Lotcar’s face showed a hint of barely perceptible bitterness. ”Our Clan’s Full Moon Festival and the Plant Clan’s autumn festival are almost on the same day. Even if we succeed in finding Yang Yu there, we’ll miss the ceremonies here, and we may even encounter ambushes on the way...”

The situation was worse than imagined. Bai Jin tightly gripped her Magic Wand, thinking that if only she had more and stronger Strength, she wouldn’t have allowed Yang Yu to be captured. Then they could have thought of a strategy together to overcome the difficulties, but...

”However, it’s not without a chance of remedy. This is a very risky choice.

If Yang Yu were here, he might be able to come up with a better plan. But...”

Lotcar looked towards the Clan Leader’s office. In his line of sight, Kai Bu stood on the watchtower, witnessing everything that was happening here, while the rose branches below him were in disarray and damaged,

”Now is not the time to speak of this, let’s first clean up here. You were brought in by me, and I must take responsibility for your actions. As for what comes next, we’ll talk about it after we get through this.”
