Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 475: Chapter 475: Absolutely Don’t Be Like a Certain Fool

”Yang Yu, before we enter the desert, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”

Just as Yang Yu was about to step toward the Gobi, Lotcar unusually took the initiative to speak.

”What is it?”

Yang Yu turned around, hesitation swirling in Lotcar’s eyes,

”Aren’t you going to blame me?”

”Why should I blame you?”

”Because I made a decision on my own and troubled you.”

That day, when they were chased by a Fierce Land Shark, Lotcar hadn’t followed Yang Yu’s advice and had chosen to sacrifice himself on his own.

At that time, Lotcar could see displeasure and discontent in Yang Yu’s eyes.

Complaint or blame, he had always hoped Yang Yu would speak with him alone, but even as they crossed the desert, Yang Yu never seemed inclined to have that private talk.

Rather than let his uneasy feelings fester, it was better to ask Yang Yu directly.

However, Yang Yu, as if he’d just remembered, said, ”That matter, ah, you simply made a choice based on your own judgment, one that suits your style. Why would I blame you?”

For a moment, Lotcar didn’t know what to say.

”Back then, the factors we used to make our decisions were different, leading to different choices.

You didn’t know what cards I still had in my hand, and I overlooked the changes in your abilities and mindset at the time... The situation was critical, and we each chose the best method we could think of, even if it meant sacrifice.

It’s inevitable to have disagreements, and if blame is due, it would be that we failed to exchange information with each other.

If I had asked then if you believed you could do it, perhaps the outcome would have been entirely different.”

”But...”

Lotcar stopped midway, feeling somewhat remorseful but unsure how to express his current feelings, as if he had betrayed Yang Yu’s expectations at that time.

”Think no more of it. My displeasure then was only because you acted too arbitrarily in choosing to sacrifice yourself. What would have become of your quest for revenge if you had died then?”

”If I had died, you surely would have completed my revenge. As long as you were there, my revenge would be fulfilled. That’s what I believed then.”

Lotcar’s words contained not a trace of doubt; in his eyes, Yang Yu was such a person, similar to himself.

”You...”

Yang Yu sighed deeply,

”Alone, we couldn’t have completed your revenge.

It has to be you, a member of the Silver Teeth Clan, to assume the position of Clan Leader.

Let me stress once more, it’s inevitable to have differences within a team.

We can negotiate, seek common ground while preserving differences.

But don’t be like a certain fool who, despite repeated warnings, still refused to heed them.”

Hearing this, Iyas hunched her shoulders, her face flushing with embarrassment.

”You are meant to be a clan leader, have more confidence in your own decisions, don’t keep them bottled up.

Hesitating in your choices will only make those who follow you waver.

When I first met you, you weren’t like this.

Has the Courage Maze influenced you?”

Faced with Yang Yu’s question, Lotcar fell silent for a moment, then answered:

”Perhaps that’s the case, who knows.

At that time, the you in the illusion told me the trick to pass through, but I still couldn’t manage...

Having been away for so long, getting closer and closer to the village, even though I’ve grown a lot in these seven years, when it really comes time to decide, I still hesitate.

But I’ll never be like some fool, causing unnecessary trouble for you all.

At least, I can now think clearly.”

”Hmm.”

Mentioned for the second time, Iyas’s face turned redder than ever, realizing that Hake was curiously trying to figure out who the fool Yang Yu and Lotcar were talking about. Iyas quickly poked Bai Jin’s cheek, awkwardly diverting Hake’s attention,

”Bai Jin, what did you see in the Hall of Courage? Listen to me, I actually saw our Queen...”

Iyas’s sudden question startled Bai Jin; the scene she had tried to bury deep in her memory came flooding back, heating her cheeks, followed by a burst of eerie laughter,

”Hehe, do you want to know? Do you really want to know? Do you want to know about the miserable state you were in?

The story of being ravaged by the enemy beyond recognition, do you really want to know?

If you truly want to know, I wouldn’t mind detailing it bit by bit, not missing a single part.

Hehe.”

Seeing the current Bai Jin, Iyas felt a chill in her heart and could only give up.

However, from Iyas’ recent behavior, Hake probably figured out who the fool Yang Yu and Lotcar were talking about.

They left the desert, which was soon replaced by the Gobi landscape. Continuing forward, they could see a row of fences stretching out endlessly to their left and right.

These fences, made of thigh-thick wooden stakes and tangled barbed wire, stood over a meter tall, behind which lay dense forests.

Every few meters along the fence, there was a tall watchtower.

There was no war between Serti and Wansheng Country; naturally, these structures were designed to deter outsiders attempting to cross the border for slave hunting.

Riding atop Lotcar and looking out into the distance, Iyas spotted an entrance between the fences, guarded by at least forty Beastman Soldiers. Given Yang Yu’s identity, passing through seemed unlikely.

”Keep approaching, and if anything happens, say that I am your slave. Most people here are subhumans; they shouldn’t be suspicious.”

Having said that, Yang Yu took a rope from the system, hung it around his neck, stuffed the rest into his clothes, covered his head with a hood, hiding his face and the rope around his neck.

The meerkat Beastman patrolling the watchtower saw Yang Yu and his group approaching and became alert, immediately reporting to the guard below.

The soldiers guarding the gate lined up, quietly waiting for Yang Yu and his group to approach.

When Yang Yu and his group were close enough, a fox Beastman officer shouted at them:

”Who are you, and why are you here?”

Iyas, following the plan previously discussed with Yang Yu, stepped forward alone, openly sharing the hardships of her year-long search for her brother, along with tales of rescuing Yang Yu, Bai Jin, and Lotcar.

The fox Beastman soldiers seemed thoughtful and eventually chose to believe Iyas.

”I’ve heard a bit about the tragedy that occurred in the Elf Village.

Only elves who have crossed the vast desert to come here would be in such a situation.

You all have indeed suffered a lot. Just continue along this guarded road; there is a village.

Rest there for a while before figuring out how to return to the Elf Forest.

Recently, those human Slave Hunters have been restless again. We are here under His Majesty the King’s orders to maintain the security of this place.

There’s nowhere safer than here.”

With that, the fox soldier ordered others to open the fence at the entrance, allowing Yang Yu and his group to pass through.
