Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 481: Chapter 481: Entering the Dense Forest

”Out of respect for my older brother?”

A flicker of disdain momentarily passed through his eyes, yet Kai Bu put on a helpless, insincere smile,

”Since my cousin has put it that way, I seem to have no choice. However, if these people cause any trouble, I hope my cousin will take the responsibility he ought to bear.”

”I trust my companions, only this, I can assure.”

Lotcar’s words were forceful and clear, and Kai Bu smiled faintly, retracing his steps,

”I was supposed to attend to some matters today, but I’ll just have to postpone them.

After all, I’m not sure whether my cousin has truly freed himself from that Strength’s enticement.

If I were to let my cousin into the village just like that, and something went wrong, I wouldn’t be able to wash my hands of it.”

Lotcar’s expression remained as calm as still water.

At the beginning of their meeting, Kai Bu thought that Lotcar would lose his composure and attack him.

If that were the case, Kai Bu would have been more than happy.

That would gradually tilt the situation to his advantage even more.

Yet, the moment Lotcar saw him, he changed his attitude entirely, showing no sign of anger despite how Kai Bu denied having any connection to Lotcar’s rampage.

”It seems that before I detected him, he’d sensed me and lured me out with those words.

In these seven years, my cousin has grown quite a bit, but the current situation is still in my favor.

I’ll crush you step by step, let’s see how long you can hold out.”

Muttering to himself, Kai Bu led Yang Yu and the others deeper into the forest.

The Silver Teeth Clan lived deep within the dense woods; the unchanging scenery of the forest acted as a natural barrier, and even those who had come to this forest several times could easily lose their way and not find the exit.

Hardly any outsiders could reach the Silver Teeth Clan’s village on their own.

If one relied on flying high to search, it would be impossible to discern which parts were the real forest and which were illusory woods created by the Barrier established by the ancestors of the Silver Teeth Clan.

Seated on Lotcar’s back, Bai Jin had not at all noticed that they had passed through the Barrier of the Silver Teeth Clan and entered a land that was even more mysterious and ancient.

Ahead of them, a burly Beastman with white ears and a white tail stood sentinel at his post.

If anyone intruded into the Barrier, he would expel them all, without exception, at any cost.

Sensing approaching footsteps, the Guard looked warily in the direction of the sound; upon seeing Kai Bu, he slightly restrained himself, posing as if diligently at work.

Yet when he saw the huge and familiar figure following behind Kai Bu, his heart shuddered uncontrollably, and the Spear he was holding trembled along with his body.

”They are all safe, I will take them to the village myself.”

Kai Bu’s voice rang in the Guard’s ears, bringing him back to his senses. He was trembling and hesitant.

Kai Bu waved at him, ”No problem, I can handle this, and it seems my cousin has broken free from that Strength. Shouldn’t we trust our fellow clan members?”

Guards nodded vigorously, his heart pounding with fear as he watched the giant Silver Wolf, he had no choice but to agree to let Lotcar carry his group of companions deeper into the forest.

”Yuluo, I’m sorry.”

As he passed by the Guard, Lotcar whispered an apology.

At that time, when he was controlled by the Curse, many had tried to stop him, but unfortunately, he was too powerful then, and no one could stop him, except for his beloved one.

Years had passed, yet the events of that day had ultimately become the nightmare of many.

Stepping onto familiar land, Lotcar’s footsteps were exceptionally heavy, each step seemed to scream at him to stop immediately.

But Lotcar still lifted his feet, following closely behind Kai Bu, step by step, until the dense forest opened up to the sound of babbling brook, and granary-like houses appeared before his eyes.

Neat wooden planks formed cylindrical walls, layered with sewn together animal skins, topped with branches messy but dense, these made up the dwellings of the Silver Teeth Clan.

Standing in front of these houses were one-meter-high wolf-shaped totems, a customary practice of invoking blessings from the ancestors.

The Silver Teeth Clan’s other members, who also possessed exceptional senses of smell and hearing like Lotcar, quickly detected the arrival of Yang Yu and others, pausing their work to gaze at the immense figure of Lotcar.

Despite the years that had passed, his towering form lingered in their minds, occasionally haunting their dreams.

They didn’t know why the nightmare that repeatedly awoke them was appearing before them once again.

A burst of sharp gazes came through, making Iyas and Hake involuntarily shrink their bodies.

Even though they had foreseen such a reception, as Lotcar stood bathed in those stares, a flicker of sadness couldn’t help but ignite within his heart.

Before that incident, most people looked at him with admiration and respect, but now, things had irreversibly changed.

The folks of the Silver Teeth Clan slowly gathered together, whispering to each other in low voices.

”Why has he returned? How does he have the face to come back here? You know, if it weren’t for him...”

”I’m actually surprised that he only decided to return now. If he had come back earlier, redeeming himself, I might have been able to forgive him. But now, it’s too late.”

”And he even brought strangers with him. What was the acting patriarch thinking? Didn’t he stop them? Or was he threatened like last time?”

The whispers were incessant, and the members of the Silver Teeth Clan seemed to have completely forgotten that Lotcar was one of their own, with hearing as keen as theirs.

Those whispers not far away were entirely audible to Lotcar, but what could he do upon hearing them? Unable to prove his innocence, he would have to bear the name of shame for a lifetime.

Without hesitation, Lotcar continued to carry Yang Yu and the others, following Kai Bu into the village.

As they entered, a twelve or thirteen-year-old child picked up a stone from the road with fearful teeth bared and hurled it viciously at Lotcar,

”Get out of our village!”

Before the stone even reached Lotcar, Yang Yu leapt from his back and caught it firmly,

”No matter the era, scenes of throwing stones at a criminal really do happen. I’m sick of it.”

Yang Yu took a brisk step towards the twelve or thirteen-year-old child, and all the onlookers instantly stopped their gossip, glaring furiously and turning their attention to Yang Yu, watching his every move.

If Yang Yu dared to lay a hand on the child, they would immediately rush forward and tear him to pieces.
