Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 489: Chapter 489 Tree Mother

Indeed, this towering tree was the Tree Mother of the Plant Clan.

At first glance, the Tree Mother of the Plant Clan did not look much different from a normal towering tree except for its size, but in fact, it truly possessed a soul.

The Tree Mother appeared huge, but most of its interior was hollow, with a long staircase climbing upwards, connecting several rooms inside.

Some of these rooms were used for storing items, others were specially reserved for the residence of the rare species of the Plant Clan, but the largest room was designated for holding meetings.

Halfway up the Tree Mother, there was a giant tree hole that provided a full view of the council chamber.

Those attending the meeting could ascend layer by layer from the base of the tree via the staircase to reach the council chamber, or they could directly enter through the wide-open portal of the tree hole.

Accompanied by Meiyu. Rose, Yang Yu naturally took the first approach, climbing to the council chamber on their own feet.

Looking around, the space of the council chamber was as big as a football field, with various plants covering the walls, forming all sorts of meeting room furnishings.

At the center of the chamber stood a giant round table, big enough for fifty people to sit around and discuss matters.

Similarly, this huge round table was also woven from countless vines, its surface smooth and slick, with a few leaves cheekily popping out as if they were growing directly from the ground.

Someone was already waiting inside the council chamber.

This person’s face resembled twisted tree bark, full of wrinkles yet exuding extraordinary kindness, and instead of hair, lush leaves sprouted densely from his head.

Strangely, these lush leaves were slowly turning yellow in the autumn air, hanging with dozens of acorns, with a small squirrel perched on the old man’s skinny index finger, nibbling an acorn plucked from above.

The old man did not turn to look at the returning Meiyu. Rose but kindly spoke up,

”Back already? How did it go?”

”Elder Quan, the intelligence is accurate. We indeed found a person, other than us, who can utilize the Plant Clan’s powers.”

As she spoke, Meiyu controlled the thorns on her body to place the cage imprisoning Yang Yu in the very center of the council table, but she did not hurry to open it, waiting instead for the other council members to arrive.

The first to arrive was Lilith, the Lily Demon.

Following Meiyu’s instructions, she used her floral scent to attract insects, then had the insects inform the other council members, and afterward lazily dragged her plant-like lower half up the stairs to sit at the council table.

Lilith, adorned with six large white petals, was one of the few in the Plant Clan almost wholly similar to plants, able to survive solely on photosynthesis.

As a trade-off, her mobility was significantly reduced, but thankfully she could support herself in low air flight using her abundant magic power, making her arrival at the council chamber no daunting task.

Next to come was William. Pumpkin, whose slim figure moved elegantly up the staircase. In the council chamber, he bowed towards the wall, greeting the Tree Mother before taking his seat.

Immediately following him was a mature woman dressed in attire akin to a cheongsam, her long, straight hair as lushly green as her dress, unaffected by the seasons.

Cuiyu. Jiucai spoke, ”Are there still two people missing?” then sat down near William.

After another four or five minutes, a child-sized figure swung through the forest, using the strength of the vines in his hands to soar high and stable through the tree hole, landing within the council chamber.

”Sorry, I’m not late, am I?”

Dressed in jungle hunter attire from a television anime, it must be said, his feathered tricorn hat indeed looked striking.

However, what he used was not bows and arrows but a slender vine in his hands.

His name was Hans. Morning Glory. Though appearing very young, around fourteen or fifteen years old, his actual age surpassed one hundred, just like Elder Quan, making him an elder of the council.

”The timing is just right,” Meiyu pointed to the cage on the table, ”Nai Xu needs some time to return to his original form. Let’s take a look at that guy first. He’s a rather interesting human.”

”Interesting, it’s the first time I’ve heard that word from you, Meiyu,” Hans smiled. ”But it’s been a while since I’ve seen Nai Xu in his thinner form, and frankly, maintaining that appearance seems quite good.”

”Please spare me; that form makes it impossible for him to speak properly,” Meiyu lightly tapped the vine-woven table. ”Besides, he personally dislikes that form. He only maintains it unintentionally — simply forgetting or for convenience’s sake.”

Hans was somewhat surprised. ”Huh? This is the first I’ve heard of it.”

Out of nowhere, the Jiucai Empress, Cuiyu, seemed to have brewed herself a cup of tea and explained, ”His original form isn’t capable of burrowing; that’s why he changed into that form. He rarely uses that ability far from the village, so it’s understandable, Mr. Hans, that you’re unaware. But please remember not to pressure him to maintain that skinny form.”

Meiyu wholeheartedly agreed with her sister’s words and continued to channel her magic power into the vine-woven council table.

The vines that composed the table seemed to sense her intentions, automatically spreading out elegantly, forming a stylish barrier in front of everyone, quietly placing Yang Yu’s imprisoning cage on the ground.

Meiyu then raised her hand, and the rose branches forming the cage instantly withered and vanished, revealing a white blanket spread out from within, with Yang Yu lying on it, sound asleep.

Yang Yu slept so peacefully that the surrounding Plant Clan members were momentarily at a loss for words—this man showed no awareness of being captured.

”He’s sleeping soundly; it seems I might become very good friends with him.”

With a hint of sleepiness on her face, Lilith yawned, rubbed her bleary eyes, only truly lively at a few specific times of the day, otherwise always seeming soft and listless.

”It’s only someone unaware of their situation who could sleep so soundly,” Hans couldn’t help but laugh. ”Let’s wake him up; we still have things to deal with afterward. The sooner we finish asking, the sooner we can all rest.”

Elder Quan nodded knowingly. Just as Meiyu was about to use her thorns to awaken Yang Yu, he seemingly sensed something and woke up.

Then, without a word, he swiftly rolled up the blanket, stowed it into the System, and nonchalantly faced all the Plant Clan members present, smiling:

”I wonder, what do you need me for?”
