Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 465: Chapter 465 That’s much better than being someone else’s lunch.

While the Fierce Land Shark devoured the fatty beef, Lotcar swung its sturdy limbs, creating a distance between it and the massive Fierce Land Shark.

Sitting on Lotcar’s back, Yang Yu looked towards the Fierce Land Shark from afar—it indeed bore no resemblance to the Fierce Land Shark Pocket Monster he remembered.

It more closely resembled a giant black lizard with a shark’s head and dorsal fin, dragging a crocodile’s tail behind it.

Judging from its stats, the Fierce Land Shark was truly tough-skinned and fleshed; it was uncertain how much time Yang Yu and his team would need to take it down.

Its enormous body was a formidable weapon in itself—likely capable of tearing and swallowing half of Lotcar’s body in a single bite.

After finishing the fatty beef, the Fierce Land Shark was not satisfied, for that small piece of meat was hardly enough to fill the gaps between its teeth; probably only the giant wolf fleeing nearby could somewhat satisfy its hunger, allowing it to feast until full.

Its eyes covered by a thin film that resembled plastic, the Fierce Land Shark used its claws to stir golden sand as it once again submerged into the sandy ground.

With a Speed of 470, the Fierce Land Shark’s pace, to be precise, referred to its movement under the desert; relying on its short and stubby lizard arms, it couldn’t move freely on the surface, hence its choice to burrow into the sand.

Below the desert, it consumed mouthfuls of sand to draw in Magic Power, then expelled it through the gill slits on its face, generating powerful turbines that gave it tremendous propulsion, even through the sand, for swift traversal.

The Fierce Land Shark’s body was covered in fine yet hard scales which prevented it from worrying about sand abrasion during high-speed travel and also accelerated its movement.

Roaming the desert was for the Fierce Land Shark akin to a fish swimming freely in the sea.

Yang Yu threw out more fatty beef, attempting to halt the Fierce Land Shark’s advance, but this time to no avail.

”Tsk—does moving fresh meat attract more attention than stored skewer meat?”

Seeing that his plan to sate the Fierce Land Shark was no longer working, Yang Yu furrowed his brows, knowing they would undoubtedly die if pursued in this manner.

Due to the curse’s effect, Lotcar couldn’t move at its normal speed; furthermore, while carrying Yang Yu and the others, and under the relentless sun, their Stamina consumption was exponentially increasing.

If things continued like this, Lotcar would likely suffer heatstroke in the desert, becoming a fully roasted wolf, burying them all in the belly of the fish.

If they chose to stop and fight such an enormous creature as the Fierce Land Shark, putting aside whether it would use the desert for ambush, fighting under the scorching sun would definitely put physical and mental strain on Yang Yu and his team, exposing countless weaknesses.

They could maintain their Status by constantly consuming Potions, but that would inevitably lead to a significant increase in Antidrug Resistance, which would be detrimental to their future adventures.

If they entered a Destruction State like Bu Yao Lianzi whom Yang Yu had witnessed, that would certainly complicate matters.

Perhaps that was a limitation set by the game—to not over-rely on drugs.

When you think about it, if one could indefinitely use Potions without restriction, it would make clearing the game quite simple.

Even with a slither of blood left, as long as you kept popping Potions, you could continuously recover. Wouldn’t that turn you into a veritable cockroach—having the ability to consume endlessly until you outlast the monster?

Alas, the emergence of antiresistance thwarted the possibility of endlessly popping potions to maintain stamina.

In a short period of time, heavy use of potions would rapidly increase antiresistance. Unless absolutely necessary, Yang Yu wanted to avoid it as much as possible.

Before figuring out a way to reduce antiresistance, Yang Yu consciously reduced the frequency of taking potions and yearned even more for Iyas to become a qualified Priest.

But for the time being, other than battling the Fierce Land Shark under the blazing sun and risking a huge drain on stamina, there seemed to be no other way.

At this moment, Yang Yu suddenly noticed the Fierce Land Shark’s blood bar emerging from the sand; nearly a third of its blood was gone.

”Qing Shi, you just said the Fierce Land Shark wouldn’t possibly venture this deep inland, right?”

Qing Shi, looking at the shark fins reappearing on the sandy surface, nodded, his eyes filled with unspeakable fear. It was his first time witnessing a live Fierce Land Shark, and the events of just moments ago were vivid in his mind.

”What you were about to say about it possibly going deep inland... does it mean something is following it from behind with it as the target?”

Qing Shi’s face turned bitter as he hesitated to share his speculation,

”The Fierce Land Shark is a favorite food of the Lamia Clan. They even raise some Garlic Turtles and let them graze in areas where the Fierce Land Sharks are found to attract them and then find ways to kill them.

During their cunning struggle for intelligence with the Lamia Clan, the Fierce Land Sharks have also become much smarter and increasingly difficult to catch; simple traps are now insufficient.

The Lamia Clan would build Sand Sailing Ships, and it’s likely for the purpose of killing Fierce Land Sharks.

That Fierce Land Shark, being hunted by the Lamia Clan and fleeing recklessly into the inland desert, is the only scenario I can think of.

And only in this scenario, would the Fierce Land Shark possibly stray from its habitat and run into the inland desert.

Because...”

”Because, the Lamia Clan’s Sand Sailing Ship is likely hot on its trail, and it simply doesn’t have the time to evade the radar on the ship?”

Qing Shi emphatically nodded, his brows tightly furrowed. ”But it’s very possible that the Lamia’s Sand Sailing Ship lost the Fierce Land Shark. The shark must be ravenous, and with no food nearby, it chose to attack us. Only with a full stomach would it have the strength to return to its habitat.

With its incredible speed, there’s just no way for us to stop it, and Mr. Lotcar is... if this continues, we’ll surely...”

Underneath his clenched wolf fur, Qing Shi felt Lotcar’s temperature gradually rising; he harbored an indescribable sense of despair. Yang Yu, however, just crouched down and patted Qing Shi’s shoulder, smiling,

”Don’t be so desperate. Knowing that it is preyed upon by hunters, that makes things easier.”

Qing Shi looked incredulous, ”Mr. Yang Yu, have you thought of a plan?”

”Since the prey is avoiding the hunter, let’s lead it to the hunter.”

”What?”

Qing Shi was initially startled, then quickly grasped Yang Yu’s intent and hastily interjected:

”No, that’s too dangerous. The Lamia Clan is just as dangerous to us as the Fierce Land Shark. Going to them could likely end up being a buy-one-get-one-free deal!”

”It’s still better than ending up in the belly of the beast.” Yang Yu stood up from the wolf’s back, confident with a smile. ”Besides, the Lamias are a type of Subhuman. Since they are Subhumans, there should be the possibility of communication and negotiation.”
