Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 497: Chapter 497: Shooting Oneself in the Foot

Kai Bu stared at Lotcar, unaware of the agreement Lotcar had struck with Yang Yu. He simply thought Lotcar had returned to reclaim his position as the Clan Leader, never anticipating that Lotcar would brazenly barge into the Clan Leader’s office and forcibly snatch the Silver Teeth Clan’s Racial Essence.

And so, Lotcar effortlessly succeeded.

With the Racial Essence in his mouth, Lotcar charged into the opposite wall. With a booming crash, a large hole split open, and Lotcar, amidst the splinters, firmly landed on the ground.

Kai Bu gave chase, leaping out onto the village street, only to find that Lotcar hadn’t fled immediately but waited there a while instead.

Sensing something amiss, a tough red Magic Power covered Kai Bu’s sharp claws, yet he hesitated to strike.

A flurry of footsteps resounded through the street, and the villagers began to draw near; as soon as they arrived, they could nab Lotcar red-handed.

But, before the villagers could arrive, Lotcar suddenly erupted into uncanny laughter,

”Hehahaha, bet you didn’t expect me to return! This body is fantastic; I’ve finally gotten what I’ve dreamt of all these years.

With it, my evil plan can finally come to fruition.

You Silver Teeth Clan, just wait. Once my plan is complete, the hatred you’ve sealed within me, I swear I will repay it twofold.”

After speaking, Lotcar, with his massive frame, broke through nearby buildings and ran towards Bai Jin and the others.

The villagers arrived belatedly, only to see a livid Kai Bu standing there and the gradually distancing figure of Lotcar.

”Acting patriarch, that voice... could it be that Lotcar is still being controlled by the force you mentioned? Has he come back to steal our Racial Essence and complete his vile plan? What should we do?”

The Silver Teeth Clan’s hearing and sense of smell were both extremely keen; they had caught Lotcar’s words. If what Lotcar said was true, what dangers would they face?

The villagers wavered, seeking guidance from Kai Bu.

Who knew...

”Everyone, shut up!” Kai Bu yelled sharply at the villagers, ”No one is allowed to chase after him!”

It was after Lotcar revealed his ”reason” for stealing the Racial Essence that Kai Bu suddenly realized Lotcar’s true intention.

Lotcar wanted the villagers to chase after him.

They had realized they were being targeted and also that the Curse Sect would never dare to touch them as long as they were near the Silver Teeth Clan.

Lotcar intended to make the villagers resent him so they would follow him all the way to the Plant Clan’s village. That’s why he caused such a commotion and stole the Racial Essence!

Now, going after him was precisely what he wanted.

Kai Bu would never allow Lotcar to succeed.

The villagers were stunned by the acting patriarch’s sudden shift in attitude.

Was this man still the amiable and kin Kai Bu they knew?

Anxiety and confusion spread among the villagers as they exchanged glances, unsure of what to do.

Noticing the villagers’ reactions, Kai Bu realized that his response and attitude were not at all what one would expect from an acting patriarch.

The clan’s most treasured possession had been stolen; as the Clan Leader, even an acting one, he should be organizing people to retrieve it. How could he let someone disrespect him so blatantly?

If not chasing, he at least owed them a clear explanation.

Realizing this, Kai Bu swiftly changed his demeanor, his anger quickly turning to concern,

”It could be a trap; nobody would reveal their intentions so openly. I don’t want a repeat of last time’s incident, which is why I stopped you from acting rashly—we must not pursue him so blindly.”

”But...” Several Silver Teeth villagers voiced their skepticism, ”We believe that Lotcar would never say such things; surely, like you mentioned, he must be bewitched by some force, now completely under its control.

That force manipulated Lotcar, causing him to maintain such an immense body size.

This was definitely for the purpose of stealing our Racial Essence.

To simply allow him to leave, to fulfill his unspeakable secret, our race may very well face great disaster.

Acting patriarch, we should pursue, capture that force, and liberate Lotcar.

Only in this way will Lotcar realize his true mistake.”

Kai Bu didn’t know how to respond and became indecisive again. He hadn’t expected that, at the time, his excuse to rationalize Lotcar’s behavior would now become his own stumbling block.

It could be said that he had lifted a stone only to drop it on his own feet.

Just as Kai Bu was lost in thought, searching for a solution, someone snuck into the first floor of the clan leader’s office and relayed everything they had seen and heard to the Old Clan Chief.

Without almost any hesitation, the Old Clan Chief immediately made a decision, instructing others to convey it.

”The Old Clan Chief says that although we don’t know what use that force has for our Racial Essence, we must recapture the Racial Essence at all costs to prevent that force from growing infinitely and affecting every person here.”

Hearing someone convey the Old Clan Chief’s intent, and thinking that they could become like Lotcar as well, the villagers of the Silver Teeth Clan once again sought out Kai Bu’s opinion.

However, Kai Bu was still indecisive and insisted that under no circumstances should they pursue Lotcar.

The villagers’ unease and confusion quickly turned into disappointment, disregarding Kai Bu’s will, they spontaneously took action according to the Old Clan Chief’s will.

To persuade the villagers, he needed to present more convincing evidence, to make the villagers agree with his point of view, but Kai Bu simply had nothing he could present.

To patch up a fabricated lie requires even more lies. Over the years, Kai Bu had been filling lies with more lies, yet he had not foreseen that Lotcar would go along with his deception, delivering a heavy punch right at his weak spot.

Gazing at the organized troops, Kai Bu could no longer stop them, nor did he want to stop them anymore.

He watched the villagers’ gaze change from one of equity to one of disdain.

Fools, truly a bunch of fools.

What have I been working so hard for, if not for the Silver Teeth Clan to live a relaxed life? Has all my effort over the years been worth less than a single sentence from the Old Clan Chief?

Am I really that untrustworthy?

Since you are not afraid of death, I do not care what happens on your way.

I should have known, I should have let them go without any reservations, even if some clan members got caught up in this, it was unavoidable.

All of this is Lotcar’s fault, if he had not returned, none of this would have happened.

Hahaha.

Indeed, that’s the case.

Kai Bu placed his hand on his forehead, showing an expression of distress. Then, his palm shifted slightly downward to cover his mouth, hiding his twisted smile.

I’ve won, I’ve already won.

Yes, whether to chase or not makes no difference, I have already won.

The lives of fools are of no value, why bother with these concerns.

Making such a choice, having such thoughts, Lotcar oh Lotcar, you have indeed fallen.

You no longer have the right to be a clan leader, and now you must bear the guilt of the death of our clansmen.

This time, I have won!
