Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Fire at Me

As time passed, Lotcar grew more and more exhausted. The blazing desert only expelled hot air and drew in even hotter gases.

Despite Bai Jin continuously cooling him on his back, the relentless running still made Lotcar’s body gradually heavy like a thousand pounds.

Sweat droplets gathered thickly on the neck fur of Lotcar, occasionally dripping and moistening patches of sand.

Yang Yu monitored Lotcar’s status with the system at all times.

Lotcar’s stamina was running dangerously low. In the harsh desert environment, the consumption of stamina greatly increased.

Even Yang Yu, whose attribute points were mainly assigned to Speed and Endurance, couldn’t withstand the torment in the scorching conditions.

Yang Yu glanced back; the fin of the Fierce Land Shark burst through the sand, only one or two thousand meters away from him. Once they stopped, the massive Fierce Land Shark would lunge toward them with its jaws wide open.

He threw another chunk of fatty beef onto the sand. The Fierce Land Shark’s dorsal fin sliced through the beef, showing complete disinterest in such small morsels.

With no other options, Yang Yu faced Iyas and the others, planted his sword into the ground, and leapt from the gliding Shield.

Yang Yu tried to act as bait again, delaying the Fierce Land Shark’s attack pattern.

That was also why he chose to surf on the sand instead of climbing onto Lotcar’s back.

However, the Fierce Land Shark showed no signs of surfacing; its dark fin, like a speeding motorcycle, charged towards Yang Yu.

The Fierce Land Shark chose to ignore Yang Yu, who had previously harmed it, and headed straight for Lotcar, deciding to fill its belly first before killing the pests that harassed it and injured its eyes.

The result was unexpected for Yang Yu. Facing the swiftly approaching fin, Yang Yu could only dodge, and with one hand, he grabbed onto the Fierce Land Shark’s fin.

Holding onto the Fierce Land Shark’s fin, Yang Yu was like hanging onto a high-speed roller coaster, his body flapping in the air like a carp streamer.

The dorsal fin of the Fierce Land Shark, cold and hard like Obsidian, made Yang Yu instantly abandon any thought of tampering with it.

His plan to serve as bait failed. Out of necessity, Yang Yu yelled at the top of his voice, pulling out a pale golden liquid from the system, and shouted towards Lotcar in front:

”Although it’s risky, Lotcar, make a sharp turn soon. Evade its attack before it captures your movement, then come over here... I’ve got a potion to restore your stamina.”

There weren’t many potions that could restore stamina. Currently, Yang Yu only had one that could instantly replenish all stamina.

Such potions were certainly precious, but human life was worth much more.

To give is to receive.

However, Lotcar ran straight ahead as if he hadn’t heard Yang Yu’s words, ignoring his own exhaustion.

Lotcar’s ears had already picked up the faint noise of a sand sailing ship in the desert. He was running low on stamina, and with his senses becoming increasingly dull, he wasn’t sure if he could evade the Fierce Land Shark’s attack.

Yang Yu couldn’t be unaware of his physical condition, but he had still given that order, which meant this was the only way left.

However, Yang Yu had stated before that the best strategy was to lead the prey to the hunter. As long as they could find the hunter, the Fierce Land Shark wouldn’t be a threat.

Lotcar had already heard the sound of the sand sailing ship, but Yang Yu couldn’t hear it. Lotcar didn’t have the means to share what he was hearing or his thoughts with Yang Yu.

Thus, this time Lotcar had to make the decision on his own.

He didn’t want his mistake to cost his companions’ lives. If he had to choose a way to die, Lotcar decided to run at full speed, and before his stamina was exhausted, get Bai Jin and the others as close to the sand sailing ship as possible.

Then, he would throw down Bai Jin and the others and use his own body to feed the Fierce Land Shark, buying time for Yang Yu and the others to escape.

The only regret was that Lotcar might never again be able to prosecute the traitor himself and expose his conspiracy.

As his body grew heavier, Lotcar’s steps became faster.

In Yang Yu’s panel, Lotcar’s stamina had finally run out, and his status turned into extreme fatigue, but Lotcar did not stop.

Even though his blood bar and mana were dropping rapidly like water pouring out, Lotcar’s every step was resolute, maintaining the fastest speed as he ran forward.

”Lotcar... you...”

Looking at Lotcar, Yang Yu’s expression grew solemn, knowing that Lotcar must have heard his voice and would not likely defy the commands he gave.

”He knows his body well, he knows that with his current condition, trying to dodge the Fierce Land Shark’s attacks is far too risky.”

Yang Yu admitted that this was indeed a risky move.

He had to perfectly place the potion into Lotcar’s mouth, ensuring that Lotcar swallowed it, and while the potion took effect, completely avoid the Fierce Land Shark’s attacks.

Any mistake could lead to unpredictable consequences.

He was confident in completing his part, but Lotcar was a different story...

”He must have heard the sound of the Sand Sailing Ship, trying with all his might to deliver us all there...”

Realizing Lotcar’s intention, Yang Yu muttered to himself, ”By doing this, can you still accomplish what you want to achieve?”

Looking at the Fierce Land Shark closing in on Lotcar, and at Lotcar, who was sacrificing his life value to maintain his speed, Yang Yu’s eyes became more resolute.

”No, it’s me who needs to help you achieve it.

If you die, I won’t be able to get the Racial Essence I want from your hands.”

Opening the system panel, Yang Yu accessed the task interface, settled the ”Hall of Courage” task, and poured all the obtained and remaining free attribute points into speed. Yang Yu’s speed value surpassed 400, reaching 431, but it still wasn’t faster than the Fierce Land Shark, which continued to leave him far behind.

With one hand stuck on the shark fin, Yang Yu raised the other high, his index finger pointing at himself.

Iyas and the others kept an eye on the situation behind, Iyas saw Yang Yu’s strange actions, unable to understand his intentions for a moment.

The strong wind blew through Bai Jin’s disheveled hair; she momentarily stopped cooling Lotcar down and aimed the Array in her hand at Yang Yu.

”Iyas, attack Yang Yu!”

”Eh? Wait for me!”

”Even though Yang Yu acts recklessly as always, trust him, attack him!”

After speaking, Bai Jin produced several Frost Ice Arrows in her hand and bombarded Yang Yu on the Fierce Land Shark’s back fin. After the barrage, Yang Yu gave Bai Jin a thumbs up.

”Really, listening to you,” sighed Iyas after seeing this, she drew her bow and shot several arrows at Yang Yu amidst the dust cloud.

After a few arrows, Yang Yu, who had been hit by two arrows in the shoulder, stretched out his hand making a stop gesture, then immediately thrust his hand into the yellow sand.

The scorching sand flowed through his fingers, Yang Yu suddenly grabbed,

”Thorny Binding.”

In front of Yang Yu, a mass of thorns rapidly grew, its purpose was not to stop the Fierce Land Shark, but to stop Yang Yu himself.
