Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 488: Chapter 488: If You Don’t Know What to Do, Just Sleep

The cage woven from rose branches, with all its spurs turned outward, made the inside where Yang Yu was as smooth as a bamboo basket, tightly sealed on all sides by rose leaves.

Lying within the cage, Yang Yu felt like he was on a train; he took out medicine to rid himself of the paralysis and poked a hole between the rose branches with his sword.

Outside, in the pitch-black expanse, moist soil mixed with thorns swiftly passed by the side of the cage.

The soil that was supposed to fill the tunnel rushed in through the hole Yang Yu made, burying him up to his waist in an instant.

Yang Yu hurriedly blocked the hole with a cloth bag, then poked another hole at the bottom of the cage to barely manage to drain the soil that had surged inside.

Before being captured, Yang Yu had hoped to explain himself properly, but little did he know that Nai Xu Mushroom and Meiyu Rose would act so quickly; he was forcibly taken away without reason.

Yang Yu tried shouting inside the cage, hoping to get the two who took him away to make a U-turn underground and return to the Silver Teeth Clan’s village.

Lotcar had some thoughts, and Yang Yu had considered them as well.

His fusion with the Plant Clan essence couldn’t possibly have reached the Plant Clan’s ears so quickly; it must have been the Curse Sect’s doing.

Considering Kai Bu’s relationship with the Curse Sect, this strategic move was meant to shift the battlefield, solving their problems while also doing Kai Bu a favor.

If Yang Yu were the villain, he would choose to do the same.

Being targeted by the Curse Sect was a certainty, and Kai Bu’s collusion with the Curse Sect was expected.

However, Yang Yu didn’t expect the Curse Sect to react so instantaneously, quickly getting in touch with Kai Bu and even borrowing the Plant Clan’s knife to wield.

After learning about Lotcar’s situation, according to Yang Yu’s original plan, he would first try to collect some evidence in the surrounding area over one or two days.

If he found nothing, Yang Yu planned to send Iyas and Hake back to the Elf Forest first, communicate with the Elf Clan for some protection, and also inquire about ways to lift Lotcar’s curse.

If that still didn’t work out, Yang Yu could leave Iyas behind, so she could study with elves in her clan capable of Holy Light Healing to speed up her development as a Priest.

If all else failed, then he’d have to play dirty, after all, no rule said that evidence was needed to prove that Kai Bu was behind the persecution of Lotcar.

Originally pressed for time, Yang Yu wanted to hurry and try every possible method he could think of.

But then the Plant Clan’s sudden intervention threw everything off course.

Confined in the narrow cage, Yang Yu kept calling out—at least let him and his companions go to the Plant Clan’s territory together. You’re in such a hurry, not bringing my companions; what’s the rush, off to be reincarnated?

But no matter how much he shouted, Yang Yu heard no one responding.

Gradually, Yang Yu simply took out a blanket and pillow and lay down in the cage, falling into a deep sleep.

Since he couldn’t change the fact that he was captured, nor could he make them turn back halfway to bring Bai Jin and the others along, he could only wait until he reached the Plant Clan’s territory and meet with that so-called Council before making plans.

In games, scenarios where one is forcibly separated from the team are not uncommon.

Such scenarios typically test an individual’s abilities; as long as one can handle this side story, they should be able to reunite with the team soon enough.

And this branch of the story was most likely about helping the Plant Clan find the real thief who had stolen their Racial Essence.

Since there was no way to avoid stepping into this subplot, the only option was to resolve it quickly.

With no leads at the moment, Yang Yu decided to sleep soundly, giving his mind a rest. After all, deducing the truth from the cobwebs and traces left over from more than a year was quite a brain-burner.

Yang Yu did not know where to find a detective who had gone from high school student to elementary schooler, to shoot him with a syringe and let the slumbering Yang Yu reap the benefits.

Logical deduction was something only he could do.

After all, once he reached the place, the Plant Clan would wake him up, so Yang Yu wasn’t worried about oversleeping.

As Yang Yu was sound asleep, a Nai Xu Mushroom pierced through the ground, transporting him to a rural village.

Here, there were countless farmhouses constructed from golden straw. Most of the farmhouses were built next to fruit trees, each with their own courtyards and cultivated land, planted with a variety of vegetables and fruits.

A sight bursting with life.

However, the residents here, to a greater or lesser extent, had plant elements. Some had pale-yellow chrysanthemums blooming by their ears; some had branches growing on their arms with one or two yellowing leaves suspended; and others were festooned with vines that they casually used as whips.

Following the street, the Nai Xu Mushroom and the Meiyu. Rose dragged a cage imprisoning Yang Yu deeper into the village.

Two children frolicked and tussled as they passed by the Nai Xu Mushroom and the Meiyu. Rose. Upon closer inspection, aside from a tender sprout growing on their heads like Slow Sheep, they were no different from human children.

On their journey, they occasionally encountered individuals heavily composed of plant matter, standing out in the Plant Clan as distinguished figures. Most were of Rare Species, who, after receiving the Racial Essence’s baptism, had the potential to evolve into Upper Species.

They all looked at Nai Xu Mushroom and Meiyu. Rose with respectful eyes, watching them as they went on their way.

Soon, the two approached the heart of the forest where a gigantic tree stood. The trunk was as large as a major sports stadium, and its canopy cast a shadow that blotted out the sun. A stream slowly made its way there, splitting into two, encircling the tree in a complete circle to the left and right, before reconverging.

The surrounding trees had all turned a rich golden yellow with autumn, yet only the lower leaves of this giant tree were just barely yellowed, drifting into the flowing stream with the breeze, their destination unknown.

By the riverbank, there appeared a pristine flower bud, which seemed to sense the arrival of Nai Xu and Meiyu, slowly blooming open.

The slender hair shone translucent under the setting sun, its hue tinged with orange-red. The delicate girl stretched lazily, tilting her slightly curled flower stamen up to the sky, stretching out with her languorous body.

Lilith rubbed her bleary eyes,

”Good afternoon, Meiyu, Nai Xu. Did you get any results?”

”Li-li-like, he...”

Nai Xu had barely begun speaking when Meiyu raised her hand to interrupt,

”We’ve returned now, Nai Xu, go back to your original form. It’s really difficult to talk to you like this.”

”Oh, oh, oh.”

Acknowledging Meiyu, Nai Xu Mushroom vanished in a whoosh, while Meiyu simply dragged the cage towards the giant Tree Mother, telling Lilith as she walked:

”The person is brought in. Gather the others for me, we need to call a meeting.”
