Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Don’t Rush to Send Us Away, Let’s Make a Deal

The members of the Special Measures Committee gathered for a brief meeting to discuss the matter that Yang Yu had brought up, each expressing their opinions.

Faced with this group of top human combatants, it was impossible for Yang Yu, this inexperienced young man, to spout nonsense so confidently unless he was truly tired of living.

Even though they had been reluctant to get involved with the Underground Maze, sending out a few people to investigate was not a significant effort.

If everything Yang Yu had said was true, they would have to re-evaluate him thoroughly.

Shortly, most attendees reached a consensus, and Hu Yao expressed their stance on behalf of everyone,

”We’ll tentatively believe everything you’ve said.

We will send people to investigate the Underground Maze, and if everything you have said is true, I will apologize to you on behalf of the entire Countermeasures Committee.

It will take about a week, and during this time, I hope you can stay within the All Things Library and refrain from wandering about.

In a week, the Library’s grand meeting will begin. If you feel bored, you can take part in it.”

After pondering for a moment, Hu Yao continued,

”Although it is difficult to say, Mr. Yang Yu, we require your assistance.

Perhaps you already know that the reason our All Things Library can help everyone so quickly find the knowledge they need is entirely dependent on the Fairy Clan.

If we can solve this historical conundrum, we wouldn’t have to exploit the fairies as we do.

I’ve always felt deeply guilty about this.

However, to maintain the normal operation of the Library, the fairies are indispensable.

Therefore, we hope the fairies will continue to work for the All Things Library.”

To keep the Library running smoothly, the power of fairies was essential.

It was a shame that given the unpleasant events that had occurred and the expulsion of the Darkness threatening Fairyland, the relationship between the fairies and the All Things Library was bound to deteriorate.

Members of the Special Measures Committee had every reason to believe that fairies would engage in full-scale strikes and protests for their own interests.

The Library couldn’t allow the fairies to proceed in that manner.

Negotiations were ultimately unavoidable.

To secure the greatest benefits, Yang Yu, the hero who had saved Fairyland, was critical. Only he, representing the All Things Library, could hold the initiative in negotiations with the fairies.

Perhaps Yang Yu also knew this, which is why he behaved with such audacity.

The goal of both parties was not mutual destruction but peaceful coexistence and joint development.

Yang Yu was well aware of this but did not immediately agree to Hu Yao’s request. Instead, he crossed his arms indignantly,

”You make it sound so simple. From the beginning, I said that due to your various mistakes, the Fairy Clan has endured more suffering than you can imagine. They won’t be willing to work for you ’willingly’ as before.

It is natural for them to fight for their rights.”

”We are also aware of this point, and we will make certain concessions on our part. Moreover, for our previous actions, we will apologize and compensate the fairies.

No matter what, please represent us in negotiations with the fairies. Afterward, we will certainly not leave you shortchanged.”

As soon as Hu Yao finished speaking, a new task popped up on Yang Yu’s interface.

[Task: [Negotiations Between Humans and Fairies]

Task Requirements: Coordinate between fairies and humans to allow them to coexist as before.

Task Rewards: Experience 1000, three lottery draws, Gold Coins: 5000000, Library Advanced Member three stars.

Special Measures Committee members, affinity +30.]

Five million Gold Coins was neither a large nor a small amount. It was a figure that Yang Yu could somewhat accept for the offer made by the All Things Library.

However, to Yang Yu, who had long-aspired for the three-star advanced member status, it had lost its value.

Considering the matters at hand, the value of the three-star advanced membership would further depreciate.

It would be best to negotiate and exchange this reward for other tangible rewards.

A Library as deeply established as the All Things Library surely possessed some rare Skill Scrolls or special tools.

Even if they belonged to some elder’s collection, those elders would certainly be willing to offer them up for the sake of the All Things Library, with no need for courtesy.

As for whether those elders would regret giving Yang Yu such items, that was not Yang Yu’s concern.

After all, once everything was settled, Yang Yu planned to leave the Library in search of the next Racial Essence to become stronger, aiming to pin down the Demon King and his Four Heavenly Kings as soon as the Demon King emerged in this world.

”The All Things Library, being the center of human knowledge and culture, indeed cannot collapse so easily.

Moreover, having seen that kind of future, I do not wish for the All Things Library to fall apart during this special period.

I have received your request.

However, I will only serve as a mediator between you two. Do not expect me to fully take your side. I will simply convey the demands of the fairies to you and vice versa.

What your relationship turns out to be will depend on the attitude of both parties.”

Yang Yu’s prompt agreement eased Hu Yao’s tension,

”That will suffice. There is one more thing—about Fairyland’s affairs, it needs to be kept confidential.

Quite a few people have noticed that there is something beneath the Library, but mostly, they only believe there is an Underground Maze under the Library, which the Library’s higher-ups have successfully suppressed.

If they learn about the existence of Fairyland, it will surely bring considerable trouble.”

Yang Yu smiled, ”You don’t need to tell me that. I already know. I will keep the secret safe, also for the security of Fairyland. The fairies don’t want their existence to be made public so that they can live peacefully without being disturbed.”

Setting aside his aggressiveness, Hu Yao found Yang Yu to be quite a reasonable person.

Perhaps, all of this was within his expectations.

He did not back down in the face of authority and managed to lead the entire Special Measures Committee into his rhythm.

He was indeed a formidable young man.

If such a person could be recruited as a member of the Library, he would surely bring significant changes to the Library in the future.

”We promise to converse openly with the fairies.

For today, let’s end here. You had a tiring day yesterday, so now go and rest.

We need to discuss how to negotiate with the fairies. After sorting it out, we’ll come to find you.”

Watching Hu Yao’s gesture to send them away, a cunning smile appeared on Yang Yu’s face,

”Don’t be in such a hurry to send us off. Opportunities like this are rare. I have some items I’d like to sell to you. I’m not sure if you’d be interested in what I’ve found in the underground ruins and maze.

Perhaps they could help address the problems that have been troubling you.”
