Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Mutual Business Flattery

Examining Yang Yu closely, Elder Li Yan saw an unusual confidence in the young boy’s smile.

Being able to clear that Underground Maze proved that this youngster was anything but simple.

The more one judged by appearances, the more likely they were to be embarrassingly mistaken.

In his youth, Elder Li Yan was a compact and fierce man; others, often deceived by his unassuming look, would seek trouble with him and end up being soundly beaten.

Deal with one, then more would come—bringing their elders no less—it was like they were delivered right to his doorstep.

Thus, Elder Li Yan knew better than anyone not to judge by appearances.

He was a lesson from the past, while Yang Yu might well be the guide for the future.

When Yang Yu’s fame started to rise in the Library, Elder Li Yan began observing him in silence.

Meeting him today, truly he was exceptional.

If such a person sincerely stayed at the All Things Library, perhaps he could genuinely transform its foundation.

After who knows how many years of development, the All Things Library had slowly strayed from the original intentions of its founders without anyone realizing.

Although they had to admit that the Library had survived in this manner and even flourished, that prosperity was limited to a few.

Now, the Library urgently needed new talent to override the old guard and bring refreshing change.

And Yang Yu was more likely to be this rejuvenating force than Tico.

”Perhaps Mr. Yang Yu doesn’t remember, but we met once during the entrance exam at the Library; please allow me to reintroduce myself—I am Tico’s mentor, called Elder Li Yan.”

His voice was full of vicissitudes, yet there was nothing lofty about it, quite affable indeed.

”Elder Li Yan, what an honor. May I know why you have sought me out all of a sudden?”

”Where should I begin...” Elder Li Yan pondered for a moment, ”Let’s start from your sneaking into Fairyland.”

Just as Elder Li Yan had scrutinized Yang Yu, Yang Yu had also observed Elder Li Yan, who was exceedingly small, resembling a malnourished child of four or five years, curled up and sitting on a book.

The first time Yang Yu saw Elder Li Yan, he had thought he was a Dwarf.

”Let’s end the preaching here. I know I’ve violated the rules of the Library, but I had no choice.”

”No, this isn’t a lecture, on the contrary, you discovered the anomaly with Fairy King Kaka, sensed the plans of Darkness, and boldly bought us time. This gave us the opportunity to handle the situation and prevent it from spiraling out of control.

I must, on behalf of the All Things Library, thank you.”

Elder Li Yan slightly bowed his head, expressing his gratitude to Yang Yu.

Externally, Yang Yu remained composed, yet inwardly, he was secretly thrilled.

As an elder of the Library, Elder Li Yan must have a discerning eye.

Having witnessed everything up close, he surely knew that more than half of their success against the Light of God Destruction was his doing.

How could such an exceptional person like himself not gain recognition from this influencer?

Feeling that the success rate of his plans had increased, Yang Yu suppressed his euphoria and quickly engaged in mutual praise with Elder Li Yan.

”Without Elder Li Yan, it would have been impossible to completely eradicate the Black Energy. The perfect resolution is all due to Elder Li Yan’s efforts.”

”Mm, indeed.”

”...”

”Don’t look at me with that ’you old fool, you’re not going to be modest in this situation’ expression. I’m just joking, but actually, I have something important I want to talk to you about.”

At this point, Elder Li Yan stopped speaking aloud, but his voice resonated in Yang Yu’s mind.

”As you can see, because you saved Fairyland, you’ve been hailed as a hero by the fairies.

Even if I don’t report honestly, there will definitely be members of the Countermeasures Committee coming for you.

Perhaps you’ve already realized, our delayed dealing with Darkness was to hold an advantage while negotiating with the fairies.

This involves many people’s interests, but primarily it serves the greatest benefit to the Library.

Afterward, the relationship between humans and fairies is bound to undergo drastic change.

As the instigator, you will certainly become a thorn in the side of some.

The apparently decision-makers of the All Things Library seem to be the revered members of the Elder Council, but in reality, it’s the Special Measures Committee that truly controls the All Things Library.

The members of the Special Measures Committee are few, but divided into factions, they disagree on many matters.

I don’t know how the Special Measures Committee will deal with your unauthorized visit to Fairyland; you should be somewhat prepared.

But don’t worry too much, because you indeed resolved the crisis in Fairyland and became the fairies’ benefactor, the people at the All Things Library wouldn’t dare truly take your life.

However, they have many means to make you submit.

Please be careful.”

Faced with Elder Li Yan’s kind warning, Yang Yu looked relaxed,

”Please, Elder Li Yan, faithfully report everything that has happened here. Whether they believe it or not is their concern; I, Yang Yu, have always been upright and fear no skewed shadows, everything I’ve done is to prevent this world from falling into crisis.

If even so, someone plans to persecute me, I will make them taste hardship. If not now, then surely in the future.”

Looking at the spirited Yang Yu, Li Yan seemed to see his younger self.

Back in the day, when he came to Fairyland, he too was dissatisfied with the Library’s actions and had wanted to rescue the fairies from dire straits, but ultimately compromised with reality and left after merely completing the task handed down.

Originally, through the Dragon God Conference, he had rejected countless offers extended to him, decisively choosing to stay at the Library, also driven by the desire to gain a voice and change the Library’s status quo through his own strength.

Regrettably, the spirited young man he once was had ultimately become the feeble elder he is now.

The authority gained through honing his abilities was not enough to change the status quo of the All Things Library by himself.

Reflecting on this, Elder Li Yan bade farewell to Yang Yu and the Fairy King, rising into the sky with a group of magicians.

Through the one-way passage opened by Kaka, all the magicians affiliated with the Library returned to the White Ball, enveloped in thick white fog, stepping out into the All Things Library.

The young magicians suddenly felt a wave of drowsiness.

The magic set by the All Things Library was taking effect, gradually lulling them into sleep, and in the days to come, they would forget everything that had happened in Fairyland as if it were a dream.

Many years ago, after Li Yan entered Fairyland, he discovered the small tampering done by the Library. Initially, he erased the Array, and just before leaving, he reinstalled the Array, ensuring his memories of Fairyland weren’t erased.

Back then, even though he flawlessly sealed the Darkness, he saw only a faint sadness on the face of the Fairy King.

Now, at the moment of farewell, he saw a genuinely joyful smile on the face of the Fairy King.

”Who knows if someone will discover the ingenuity of this Magic Technique, decipher it, and retain all memories of what happened in Fairyland in their minds.”

Watching the young magicians gradually falling into slumber, Elder Li Yan simply murmured to himself.
