Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 282: Chapter 282: You Can Never Wake Up Someone Who is Pretending to Sleep

Yang Yu’s words, although irrefutable, bore a sense of resignation...

How could this be possible?

Because of Yang Yu’s actions, they had lost a powerful bargaining chip for negotiating with the fairies.

It was because Fairyland faced the encroachments of Darkness that they could easily obtain almost unpaid help from the fairies, making the Library more and more prosperous.

The upper echelons of the Library could not imagine what the Library would become without the fairies.

After hundreds of years of accumulation, the knowledge in the Library was vast.

So vast that even if a person only scraped a small piece from this iceberg of a Library, added some jam, and made shaved ice, it would be enough to satiate them to death.

Without the fairies’ help, the Library’s operations could not possibly proceed smoothly.

Even though the Library had categorized knowledge and narrowed the search range, different customers had different needs and each desired a unique piece of knowledge, and every search still consumed a lot of time.

Without the help of the fairies, in order to ensure the efficiency of the existing Library, more staff would need to be hired, but increasing staff would bring new problems.

Even if extremely capable librarians were hired, they could not remember the location of every book in the Library.

Multiple personnel could not achieve effective communication among themselves.

The librarians’ meals and breaks cost real money, silver.

Moreover, in order to access accurate information, there would inevitably be individuals constantly flipping through the books, which would cause wear and tear that demanded significant time, effort, and money to repair and correct.

Besides maintaining peace and security within its jurisdiction, the All Things Library also allocated a considerable amount of money to pay informants around the world to collate knowledge into books, continually updating the Library’s collection.

To be honest, the Library’s annual income barely exceeded its expenditures, just managing to break even.

If Fairyland, due to their previous actions, or if they wished to improve their working conditions, were unwilling to cooperate and refused to provide services, it would certainly trigger a series of chain reactions.

The butterfly effect would slap them continuously in the face like a loud slap.

Thus, when the Library firmly grasped the lifeline of the fairies, they unabashedly exploited this, having the fairies provide almost unpaid services continuously.

Now the chip was gone, all good things would pass, how could they accept that?

Yang Yu, the ”chief culprit”, was right before their eyes, so of course, all accusations were directed at him.

Perhaps, Yang Yu could still salvage something.

Yang Yu had saved Fairyland, which was an undeniable fact; he would become an important bargaining chip in the dialogue between Humans and fairies.

To make good use of this chip, it was necessary to take him down a notch.

Even if what he said made perfect sense, so what if he had saved the world?

If those Black Energies escaped, many people from the Special Measures Committee also believed that the Library would have a way to completely eradicate it.

In the eyes of many in the Special Measures Committee, the achievements of Yang Yu were not something to boast about, maintaining stable relations between the Library and Fairyland was what truly mattered.

That was worth their utmost effort.

”You make some valid points,” they said, ”yet, this does not justify your unauthorized entry into Fairyland. If you don’t tell us everything you know, how can we know to not help you? Just tell us where you learned about Fairyland, only tell us how you came to know about the special nature of the underground Darkness, and we will definitely reach out to help you save Fairyland.”

Faced with these questions, like those from Zhuge Liang after the event, Yang Yu’s relaxed expression gradually cooled, but his resonant voice filled the interrogation room,

”I said it, did you not hear me just now? I was saying, if the Library gets involved, it might indeed fail to eliminate the Darkness.

If I choose to tell you about the danger of the Black Energy, you would most likely only think about sealing that Black Energy, planting the seeds of future troubles.”

No sooner had Yang Yu’s voice faded than a new voice rose in the special interrogation room,

”Mr. Yang Yu, mind your attitude. We are interrogating you right now, and as long as we clarify everything and deem your actions correct, we will let you go.”

”To deem everything I’ve done is correct? I fear there are many here who do not feel this way. From the beginning, your true intentions were elsewhere; what you are thinking about now, I can guess a thing or two.”

Yang Yu’s face broke into a smile again—a fearless, confident smile,

”What I’ve said is clear and upright, logically sound, and demonstrated ample respect to you. But if my respect is met with your arrogance, then there’s no need for respect.

I’ll be blunt—I simply disdain the methods of your Library.

The Fairy race, although different from ours, still possesses their own intelligence and emotions, when you respect them, they reciprocate with kindness and affability.

Yet, faced with such a lovable race.

Your choice in how to interact with them is exploitation.”

”I don’t see that as exploitation,” they retorted, ”our interests are aligned. Our Library has always ensured their safety, and they have provided us with convenience, a fair and equivalent exchange.”

Ultimately, Yang Yu scoffed at that person’s view. He had initially intended to discuss things peacefully, but as they say, a good horse is ridden, a good man is bullied.

If putting on a patient expression to explain couldn’t awaken these feigning sleepers, then he’d have to adopt another approach to shake them,

”Equivalent? I don’t think so.

When I opened the history book of the Library’s cooperation with the fairies, there were no dates, just the sloppy words ’equivalent exchange’ on every page. I couldn’t decipher it at first; after a long contemplation, the words emerged through the creases, inscribed with ’eating humans.’

Yes, eating humans.

Do you know how many fairies have sacrificed their lives due to your decisions? Do you understand how determined Fairy King Kaka was when giving orders?

If one day, the Library faces the same treatment, dominated by a more powerful race with no strength to resist,

and they demand you work for them, risking your lives almost for free.

And if you disagree, they threaten your very right to live.

What then, would you do?

Put yourself in their shoes—this is something even a child understands; I refuse to believe that everyone here fails to grasp this simple principle.

Or perhaps, you are just a group tainted by self-interest.”
