The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 274: Chapter 274: No More Preparing Birthday Gifts, Right?_1

The rich scent of scallion oil unfolded on her lips and teeth; she squinted her eyes slightly and muttered, ”Hmm, it’s a bit sweet.”

Amadeus Yancey had been paying close attention to the changes in her expression. Seeing that she had taken a bite, he didn’t speak but his heart was lifted with concern, ”How is it?”

Audrick Zachmann and Lily were just as anxious.

Lily was the most nervous, her little hands clenched tightly together, her large, ink-black eyes staring unblinkingly at Nathalie Quinlan, worried she wouldn’t like it. Her little mouth mumbled, ”Sister, is it too sweet?”

Uncle had said that sugar isn’t necessary for noodles, but he thought that when sister felt down, and when he himself felt down, he liked to eat sugar; eating sugar made him feel much better. So, while Uncle and Uncle Audrick weren’t paying attention, he had sneakily added two spoonfuls of sugar.

Amadeus Yancey hadn’t realized why it would taste sweet.

He saw the girl sitting at the table as if nothing was amiss, her snow-white jawline soft, her eyebrows slightly raised, her black eyes wild and roguish, and after eating a few more bites, she looked up and said.

”It’s quite tasty.”

”Really?” Edric Yancey, who had secretly added the sugar, breathed a sigh of relief, but still felt a bit unsure.

”Really!” Nathalie wanted to prove it to him, so she buried her head and took a few more bites.

She didn’t know who had hidden sugar in the noodles; below the scallion oil’s flavor, there was only the taste of white sugar, so sweet it became cloying.

She disliked sweet foods the most; she didn’t even touch milk tea usually, but this time, she felt that sweetness wasn’t an unbearable taste.

However, in the blink of an eye, the noodles in the bowl were almost finished.

The noodles at the bottom were almost soaking in sugar water; Nathalie really couldn’t continue and could only put down her chopsticks and say, ”I’m full.”

Seeing her ’like’ it, Lily pursed her cute, pink lips, both happy and shyly saying, ”Sister likes it, so I’ll make noodles for sister again tomorrow!”

Nathalie had barely managed to finish the noodles in the bowl. Hearing his bashful words, the corners of her mouth twitched fiercely, ”...Actually, there’s no need to go through the trouble.”

Edric was eager to offer her his best to make her happy, and upon seeing that she had something she ’liked,’ where could he find it troublesome? He hurriedly said, ”It’s not troublesome at all, not troublesome indeed!”

Audrick felt the same way and raised his hand to indicate, ”Nathalie, if you like it, we’ll make it for you again tomorrow!”

Only Amadeus Yancey noticed the ’white crystals’ that mysteriously appeared in the bowl and, recalling Edric’s recent question to Nathalie about sweetness, guessed what had happened.

Edric had secretly added sugar to the noodles!

He was one of the few people who knew that Nathalie didn’t like sweet foods. His thin lips pursed, he subtly stepped in front of the two and changed the topic, ”Right, today is your birthday. Here’s something for you.”

When Nathalie saw him pull out a blue brocade box, a square of the size of a palm, she couldn’t help asking, ”What’s this?”

With the corner of his lips turned up, Amadeus Yancey’s deep eyes seemed unfathomable, his voice enticing, ”Open it and see.”

Only Audrick beside him cursed under his breath, ”Damn it, Amadeus, you didn’t prepare a birthday gift, did you?”

He had wanted to buy Nathalie a birthday gift and had asked what to get her. How had he responded back then?

This time was just making up for the birthday, not actually Nathalie’s real birthday. It was enough to gather and eat together, haha; there’s no need to be so formal with gifts. Making it too formal, Nathalie might feel uncomfortable.
