Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 111: Chapter 72: Guests of the Space Station and the Distribution of Interests_2

The specific analysis of the bullet holes needs to be handed over to professionals; they only record them.

The team did not linger too long at the edge of the office area and quickly found the Mining Space Station management office with the guidance of the map.

The office showed no signs of chaos, only a skeleton slumped over the desk.

The computer in front of the skeleton had not been destroyed.

A team member immediately stepped forward, removed the computer’s storage device, and began retrieving the data using a portable small terminal.

After operating for a while, the team member looked up at the captain and said, ”Captain, we have the list of all long-term hibernating personnel in the Space Station. There are ten individuals in total.”

”Additionally, I’ve also extracted the full personnel list of the Space Station and will send it to you shortly.”

The captain gave him a thumbs-up. After receiving the personnel list, he noted down the names and appearances of the ten individuals.

Confirming that there was nothing else of value in the office, they moved to the surveillance room in the office area.

However, the surveillance room was rather chaotic.

There were dried stains everywhere, and all the equipment had been severely damaged.

The team member responsible for managing the electronic equipment checked around and finally obtained a recording device that hadn’t been completely destroyed. It needed repairs to be read.

Yet all members of the team knew that the likelihood of this device containing valuable information was close to zero.

Having searched both valuable locations in the office area,

the captain continued to look at the map and said to the team members, ”Up next, we’ll go to the living area; the hibernation pods are over there.”

The team members followed the captain one by one, passing through the office area into the central public area of the Space Station.

Upon arriving here, their somewhat relaxed nerves suddenly tightened.

Because in the corners of the public area and the passage leading to the lower levels, there were many mutant organisms covering the surfaces.

However, they quickly noticed that these mutant organisms had lost their activity and showed no signs of movement.

Moreover, it seemed there were originally many large egg-like objects among the mutant organisms.

However, now they had all disappeared.

After confirming the safety of the surrounding environment, a team member stepped forward to collect some samples of the mutant organisms. While observing the samples closely, he couldn’t help but say, ”Are these things left by insects?”

The talkative team member also joined to take a look at the samples and said, ”They should be, the source of the Space Station’s insect outbreak more or less started from below.”

The captain interjected, ”Don’t worry about these irrelevant things; our mission is to find out where the missing ship went.”

The two swiftly rejoined the team, but their conversation didn’t stop.

”Actually, I’m curious about where the bugs have gone now.”

”Thirty years have passed; they should be dead.”

”Bugs capable of surviving on asteroids just died for no reason?”

”Anything can happen in space.”

”True.”

The two quickly finished their conversation and continued following the captain through the public area into the living area, which was similarly covered in numerous dried mutant organisms.

The density of mutant organisms here was somewhat less than in the public area, so moving with a bit of caution was entirely feasible.

The team quickly followed the map to find three hibernation rooms clustered together.

They started searching from the hibernation room closest to the public area.

However, the equipment in the first two hibernation rooms had been completely destroyed.

Until they entered the third hibernation room.

Upon entering, the team immediately saw a skeleton draped in a white coat on the ground, along with the carcass of a bug beside it.

”It should be Doctor Ding He, who was responsible for monitoring the daily conditions of the Space Station’s hibernating personnel.”

As the captain finished speaking, he signaled others to start searching.

Soon, everyone gathered around a hibernation pod.

Because this hibernation pod visibly showed signs of recent opening.

And a simple personal information tag was printed on it.

A team member casually read the information aloud: ”Maintenance Master, No. 519, Chen Ming.”

”Is it him?”

The team member responsible for electronic equipment was at this moment connecting his terminal to the hibernation pod. After a simple operation, he said, ”Highly likely, the human parameter configuration of the hibernation pod matches his configuration recorded in the system, and I’ve also found record of this hibernation pod being activated half a year ago.”

”Who activated it?”

”No one, probably a space power failure caused the hibernation pod to restart, so it released him. Didn’t we scan before? The Space Station’s fuel is already drained.”

”Then it’s him.”

The captain directly set the tone.

”Now the question is how he survived and managed to escape on that dilapidated civilian ship?”

”Who knows, at least we confirmed the identity.”

”Why is the director looking for this Chen Ming?”

”I guess it’s to put someone who has lived out of a bug-infested region for thirty years under proper protection and represent the unyielding survival spirit of humankind.”

”Are you joking?”

The captain directly interrupted the two bickering team members saying, ”Enough nonsense, we need to leave. Our mission isn’t over; we need to find Chen Ming.”
