Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”Sister-in-law?” Charles Prescott asked. ”Ethan Linden has already said he’s going to marry Anne Sutton. Don’t you think it’s ridiculous to call her that?”

”And isn’t that your fault?” Stella Shields said. ”You had the chance to marry Anne Sutton, so why didn’t you? If you had married her, would any of this be happening?”

If you two were together, Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t want to see Anne Sutton again.

Much less run off to Westhaven.

Just thinking about it made Stella Shields furious!

”If I’d married her, wouldn’t I have been a laughingstock?” Charles Prescott said.

Stella Shields looked at Charles Prescott, realizing his excessive pride was what had ruined everything. She shot back, ”So what about now? Ethan Linden is trying to take everything the Fawcett Family owns from you. I suppose you’re not a laughingstock now?”

”He can’t take away everything the Fawcett Group has,” Charles Prescott said.

He had many supporters. He refused to believe Ethan Linden could take it all away.

Stella Shields looked at Charles Prescott’s naive expression. ’He doesn’t know the truth,’ she thought. ’He doesn’t know that Nathan Fawcett is actually Ethan Linden, the true, rightful heir of the Fawcett Family. That’s why he’s so confident.’

”If you’re that confident, I have nothing more to say,” Stella Shields said. ”When the time comes, you won’t even know what hit you.”

At this, Charles Prescott’s expression darkened. ”Are you saying Ethan Linden can actually take the inheritance?”

”...” Stella Shields said, ”If he decides he wants it, there’s nothing he can’t get. If you were smart, you wouldn’t make an enemy of Ethan Linden. He could ruin you with a flick of his finger.”

The Linden Group is more than capable of destroying the Fawcett Group.

Charles Prescott, who had been quite confident, began to feel a little worried after hearing what Stella Shields said.

She didn’t look like she was bluffing.

”If I were you,” Stella Shields said, ”I’d find a way to marry Anne Sutton. If you get together with her, Ethan might go easy on you for her sake.”

”Are you sure?” Charles Prescott asked, finding her words hard to believe.

Stella Shields rolled her eyes at him. ”Believe it or not, it’s up to you. I’m just giving you a friendly warning. No matter what, Anne Sutton was married to Nathan Fawcett, and the old chairman doted on her! She lost her child, yet you inherited everything from the Fawcett Family and failed to provide for her properly. Of course she’s going to be angry.”

’For the past few years, Ethan Linden has stayed away from the Fawcett Family, assuming Charles Prescott would treat Anne Sutton well.’

’He intended to give the Fawcett Family’s assets to Anne.’

’After all, Anne gave birth to his son, Ian.’

’The only reason he’s here now, defying Anna Linden, is because Anne has been wronged.’

’If Charles Prescott could just wake up and handle the Fawcett Family’s affairs properly, I wouldn’t be this anxious.’

After saying her piece to Charles Prescott, she left the gym.

’Seeing Charles was just a stop along the way.’

’Honestly, I’m not really counting on him!’

...

As she thought about the past few years, how she had been completely absorbed in her work and hadn’t cherished her time with Nathan Fawcett, she was filled with deep regret.

When she arrived at Nathan’s place, she found that neither Anne Sutton nor Nathan Fawcett were up yet.

Ian, however, was an early riser.

He was sitting on the sofa alone, watching something on a tablet.

”Ian!” Stella Shields said.

Ian looked up at Stella Shields.

He had always thought of Stella Shields as his mother, so he still felt a natural affection for her.

Stella Shields walked over to Ian, set down her purse, and said, ”You’re up so early?”

Ian nodded.

”Have you had breakfast?” Stella Shields asked.

”No,” Ian replied.

”Mommy will go make you some,” Stella Shields said, a gentle smile spreading across her face.

”Mommy?” Ian murmured, looking up at her.

Stella Shields had always been nice to him in the past.

But she had never been this attentive before.

”What’s wrong?” Stella Shields asked. ”Didn’t you always want Mommy to stay home with you? Now I am, and you’re not happy?”

Ian remained on the sofa, looking at Stella Shields in confusion.

Stella Shields was already on her feet and heading into the kitchen.

The housekeeper was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. She was surprised to see Stella Shields walk in. ”Ms. Shields.”

”Let me make Ian’s breakfast,” Stella Shields said. ”I’m usually so busy with work that I don’t get to spend enough time with him. I finally have some free time, so I want to look after him more.”

”...” The housekeeper nodded at Stella Shields’s words.

...

Stella Shields was quite confident in her cooking skills.

She finished cooking, brought the breakfast to the table, and called Ian over to eat.

”Are you hungry?” she asked Ian. ”Go on, eat!”

”My mommy isn’t up yet! I should go wake her up!”

Ian was thinking of Anne Sutton.

He had grown accustomed to eating breakfast with Anne Sutton every morning.

Stella Shields’s face fell at Ian’s words.

’Has Nathan Fawcett already told Anne Sutton that Ian is her child?’

’Why else would Ian be calling Anne ’Mommy’ already?’

’Then what does that make me?’

Stella Shields’s fingers clenched into a fist.

She was furious, but she kept her expression gentle. ”Your mommy? Ian, am I not your mommy? Didn’t you used to wish Mommy would stay home with you?”

”But Daddy said you aren’t my mommy,” Ian said.

”...” Stella Shields’s smile twitched. She said to Ian, ”How could that be? I’m your real mommy. Daddy and Mommy were just having a little fight, that’s why he said that. Ian, Daddy is with Auntie Sutton now. He doesn’t want Mommy anymore. Can you help Mommy, please? I’ll always be here with you from now on, okay?”

Ian blinked, looking at Stella Shields.

He was completely confused.

”Are you telling the truth?” Ian asked, a little doubtful.

Stella Shields nodded. ”Of course it’s true! You already knew that, didn’t you, Ian?”

Anne Sutton, who had to get up for work, was already awake.

As she came down the stairs, she saw Stella Shields crouching and talking to Ian.

”Mommy,” Ian said the moment he saw Anne Sutton.

His eyes lit up the instant he saw her.

Back in Veridia, it had always been Nathan Fawcett who spent time with him, aside from the maids who cared for him.

But now, in Westhaven, Anne Sutton doted on him as if he were her own son. They got along wonderfully, so his affection for her was natural.

Stella Shields stared at Ian. ’He used to believe he was my child.’

’I never expected...’

’In just a few short days, the boy has already come to trust Anne Sutton so completely.’

’No matter what, I’m the one who watched him grow up. I’ve spent far more time by his side than Anne Sutton ever has!’

Seeing Anne Sutton come downstairs, Stella Shields said, ”Good morning, Sister-in-law.”

Anne Sutton froze, taken aback by the sudden address. ”Ms. Shields, why are you calling me that?”

Stella Shields walked over, linked her arm with Anne Sutton’s, and said, ”You’re with Nathan, and he’s Ethan’s brother. Since I’m with Ethan now, that naturally makes you my sister-in-law. What, you don’t like it?”
