Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

If it weren’t for his body’s unique dependence on her, which made it impossible for him to get close to other women, he would have married Stella Shields as Ethan Linden long ago, just as Anna Linden had instructed. Then he wouldn’t be here now, putting up with her attitude.

”Nathan is still the best! He’s the only man in the world who doesn’t fool around.”

At this, Anne Sutton sighed and turned to look out at the garden.

Nathan Fawcett was furious, but hearing her praise his other self, his anger subsided considerably.

He said, ”Your Nathan is so great, but aren’t you still marrying someone else? How do you know that Justin Shields isn’t a player?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Is he that kind of person? He doesn’t seem like it.”

After all, Justin Shields seems so warm and well-mannered.

Nathan Fawcett hadn’t expected her to actually believe him.

He said, ”How do you know he isn’t? Do you know what he does for a living? He’s in the entertainment business, surrounded by beautiful celebrities all day. You know what the entertainment industry is like, don’t you?”

Nathan Fawcett didn’t hold back, directly slinging mud at Justin Shields’s name.

He was the type who always spoke his mind, but this was the first time he had ever done something as despicable as badmouthing someone behind their back.

’And I have to admit, it feels pretty damn good!’

Anne Sutton said, ”No wonder he’s still single. So handsome, but no girlfriend.”

Seeing that she believed him, Nathan Fawcett was quite satisfied. ”Good. As long as you understand. There’s hope for you yet.”

...

「The next morning」

Justin Shields stayed for breakfast.

Usually, it was just the three of them, but with him there today, things felt much livelier.

Ian looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Auntie.”

Seeing Ian, Anne Sutton smiled and asked patiently, ”What is it, Ian?”

Ian said, ”My uncle said he wants you to be his girlfriend. He asked if you would.”

The words were barely out of Ian’s mouth when Nathan Fawcett, who was taking a drink of water, choked.

”Cough...”

The butler asked with a worried expression, ”Sir, are you all right?”

Nathan Fawcett finally managed to recover. ”I’m fine.”

Ian asked, ”Dad, what’s wrong?”

Nathan Fawcett looked up, glancing from his *wonderful* son to Justin Shields.

He couldn’t believe it. After all the trouble he went to last night to ruin Justin Shields’s image in front of Anne, this guy had the nerve to use Ian as his matchmaker.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’m fine now. Let’s eat.”

He sat there, suddenly finding the food impossible to swallow.

He had spent the last few years under Anna Linden’s care, and while his sense of taste hadn’t fully recovered, he could still eat normally.

But now, breakfast tasted exceptionally awful, as if he had gone back to the days when he had no sense of taste at all.

Seeing that Nathan Fawcett was fine, Ian asked, ”Auntie, what do you think? My uncle is really handsome! It would be great if you two got together! He doesn’t have a girlfriend, anyway.”

Anne Sutton glanced at Justin Shields and said, ”This is grown-up stuff. You’re just a little boy, you wouldn’t understand.”

”Who says I don’t understand?” Ian retorted. ”If you two get together, then you’ll have my uncle to protect you, and no one will be able to bully you anymore.”

”Thank you, Ian, but I...”

Just as Anne Sutton was about to refuse, Justin Shields, who was sitting nearby, chimed in with a passive-aggressive pout. ”It seems Anne doesn’t think I’m good enough! Oh well, I guess it can’t be helped. It’s my fault for being so pathetic!”

Hearing him talk like that, Anne Sutton said, ”No, that’s not it! It’s just... Ian was just rambling. I didn’t mean it like that.”

”So, does that mean you *do* have your eye on me? That’s great!” Justin Shields said. ”Are you going to the hospital to see your mother after we eat?”

Anne Sutton nodded.

Justin Shields said, ”Let me go with you! We can bring Ian. Ethan has to work, so he doesn’t have time to look after him anyway.”

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”

’This guy isn’t planning on moving in, is he?’

He stared at Justin Shields. ”Don’t you have work? When are you planning on leaving?”

Justin Shields replied, ”My place isn’t far from here. I’ll head back tonight after visiting your mother.”

”Your work is that leisurely?”

Justin Shields said, ”I’ve already arranged everything at the company, so don’t worry! I’m not like you, with so much on your plate.”

Nathan Fawcett was now the Family Head of the Linden Family and also had to manage the Fawcett Family’s affairs, so he was naturally very busy.

After breakfast, as Anne Sutton was heading out, Ian and Justin Shields came over.

Justin Shields picked up Ian, placed him in the car, and then glanced at Anne Sutton. ”Want me to drive?”

”Um...” Anne Sutton looked at Justin Shields. ’A free chauffeur would certainly be nice.’

She said, ”Alright, then!”

She got in the back with Ian.

Nathan Fawcett stood at the window, watching the three of them leave so brazenly. Justin Shields hadn’t just made off with his wife, he’d taken his son too. He was absolutely furious.

...

When Anne and the others arrived at the hospital, they found Justin Shields’s mother already in the room, keeping Mrs. Sutton company.

The two women were watching television.

An interview program was on, and today’s guest was the top female celebrity, Stella Shields.

Mrs. Shields beamed from the side. ”That’s our Stella. Around the time she was born, our whole family was in Veridia, so we never came over here. You never got to meet her. It’s such a shame!”

Mrs. Shields and Mrs. Sutton had been classmates.

But after Mrs. Sutton got married, she had two children, and with Sean Sutton always working, she spent her days as a housewife.

It sounds easy, but for her family’s sake, she had all but given up her social life, and her circle of friends had shrunk.

As a result, she and Mrs. Shields hadn’t seen each other in years.

Mrs. Sutton said, ”Stella is so beautiful. I’ve even seen one of the dramas she was in.”

”She is!” Mrs. Shields said. ”That girl was just so determined to be an actress, we couldn’t stop her. Her father told her the entertainment industry was too chaotic, but she wouldn’t listen. Thankfully, she has Ethan looking after her.”

When Mrs. Shields mentioned Ethan Linden, Anne Sutton’s expression darkened.

’Ethan Linden and Stella Shields are that close? If Mrs. Shields knew that I had a messy relationship with Ethan—that we’d even slept in the same bed—I can’t imagine how she would curse me out.’

At the mention of Ethan Linden, Justin Shields also glanced at Anne Sutton.

Seeing Anne Sutton and Justin Shields enter, Mrs. Shields said, ”Anne, Justin, you’re here. Oh? How did you two come together?”

Justin Shields explained, ”I stopped by Ethan’s place and came over with Anne. Mom, what are you doing here?”

”I saw that your Auntie Sutton was bored here all alone, and I didn’t have anything else to do, so I came to keep her company. By the way, how are things going between you and Anne?”

Mrs. Shields’s question made Anne Sutton feel very awkward.

She glanced at Justin Shields, remembering that Ethan had said Justin was a player.

’He really doesn’t seem like one, though.’

Justin Shields looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”I like Anne very much. I just don’t know if she’ll have me.”

Mrs. Sutton quickly chimed in, ”How could she not? You’re such a great catch. If our Anne had you to look after her, I could finally rest easy.”
