Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

She stood up, found some professional clothes, and put them on, preparing to go to the hospital later.

Nathan Fawcett and Ian were already up.

The housekeeper was making breakfast.

When Ian saw Anne Sutton, he said, ”Good morning, Auntie!”

Nathan Fawcett raised his head and glanced at her.

The butler was also there, and seeing Anne Sutton’s outfit, he asked, ”Are you going out, Madam?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I’m planning to go to the hospital.”

”Aren’t you on leave?”

Anne Sutton sat down, took a sip of water, and said, ”My supervisor from the hospital called and wants me to go to City A for training. It’s so strange! I don’t know why. I never used to get these kinds of good opportunities.”

”You’re going to City A?” Nathan Fawcett frowned upon hearing this.

Anne Sutton said, ”I’m going to the hospital to discuss it with my supervisor. But from what he said, it sounds like I might really have to go to City A.”

If she really couldn’t refuse, she wasn’t about to jeopardize her career.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I don’t approve!”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at him. ”It’s a matter of my career. What right do you have to disapprove?”

’This man...’

’He’s being way too strange!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Ian wants to see you. If you leave, he’ll miss you.”

Ian was eating a steamed bun. Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, he said sensibly, ”Auntie has to work. I’ll miss her, but I understand. Auntie, I’ll wait at home for you to come back.”

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”

’This useless son of mine!’

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”See? Ian doesn’t mind.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”That doesn’t matter! You can’t leave Westhaven without my permission.”

”Reason.” Anne Sutton looked at him, confused.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”My word is the reason. You dare disobey me? Fine! If that’s how it is, then Ian and I will just go back to Veridia! From now on, I won’t care about the Fawcett Family’s business! Charles Prescott and Miles Prescott can manage the company anyway. You wouldn’t mind that, would you?”

’If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have come back here at all.’

’He came all this way, and what does she do? She’s planning to run off to City A!’

Hearing his words, Anne Sutton quickly compromised, ”Don’t! Fine, I won’t go! I’ll just go and tell my supervisor.”

’She hadn’t expected this man to be so willful.’

’Just because she said she was going to City A, he was willing to abandon his own family’s business and even let that Prescott father and son duo benefit?’

Seeing her compromise, Nathan Fawcett was finally satisfied and didn’t make things difficult for her anymore.

After breakfast, Anne Sutton went to the hospital.

She arrived at the door of Director Webb’s office. Before she could even go in, she saw Wendy Chambers approaching.

She ran over in a fury and said, ”Anne Sutton, you bitch!”

”...” Getting cursed at so suddenly, Anne Sutton was baffled.

She looked at Wendy Chambers and asked, ”Are you insane?”

Wendy Chambers said, ”The opportunity to go to City A was originally mine! What right do you have to snatch it away? Who do you think you are? No way! Don’t tell me you found some other man to back you up again!”

For the past two or three years, Anne Sutton’s career had been lukewarm. Without Charles Prescott’s backing, the hospital no longer gave her the preferential treatment it used to.

And now this—she was on leave, and she still snatched away my opportunity.

Wendy Chambers was furious.

Hearing Wendy Chambers’s words, Anne Sutton found it strange. ”Didn’t you have something on?”

’That’s what I remember Director Webb saying.’

’He said Wendy Chambers couldn’t make it, and that’s why the opportunity went to me.’

”Something on? What could I possibly have on?” Wendy Chambers said, ”I’ve been preparing for a long time. What right do you have to just show up and steal my spot? Ha! You woman, besides climbing into men’s beds, what other skills do you have?”

Just then, Director Webb came over. ”Chambers.”

When Wendy Chambers saw Director Webb, she said aggrievedly, ”Director.”

Director Webb walked over and said to Anne Sutton, ”Sutton, let’s go into the office.”

As he spoke, he opened the office door.

Anne Sutton glanced at Wendy Chambers, not understanding the situation, and could only follow Director Webb inside.

Director Webb sat down, and Anne Sutton said, ”Didn’t you say you were assigning it to me because Wendy Chambers couldn’t make it?”

’But the way Wendy Chambers was just looking at me, like she wanted to kill me, didn’t seem like someone who couldn’t go because she was busy.’

Director Webb said, ”Well, uh, actually, we felt you were more suitable. Your skills are more outstanding, so we wanted to give you this opportunity.”

Anne Sutton looked at Director Webb and said, ”I came here today to tell you that I can’t go.”

’Ethan Linden had already made his opinion clear!’

’The Fawcett Family’s affairs are more important right now.’

’Compared to work, she’d much rather see Charles Prescott fall from power.’

When Director Webb heard this, he asked in surprise, ”This is such a great opportunity. Are you sure you don’t want to seize it?”

Anne Sutton said, ”My mother just had surgery, so I can’t go. I need to stay and take care of her. Although work is important, that’s my mother. I can’t just ignore her.”

”...” Director Webb said, ”Your mother’s surgery is already over. You can just have someone else take care of her, can’t you? What do you think?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I really can’t. Director, please make arrangements for someone else. Thank you for the kind offer.”

Director Webb looked at Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Also... this matter of sending me away, was it really the hospital’s idea?”

Seeing her ask about this, Director Webb became a little awkward. ”Of course. Why, do you think there’s a problem?”

Anne Sutton looked at the director’s guilty expression, frowned, and said, ”Has Charles Prescott been in contact with you recently?”

”...” Hearing her words, Director Webb laughed. ”President Prescott is a man of great stature. Why would he contact me?”

”So you’re saying he went directly to the hospital president?”

”...” Director Webb looked at Anne Sutton and coughed, not expecting her to have seen through it all. ”Well, uh, Sutton, we don’t really understand your family’s affairs. But I think you’re still young. Sometimes, it’s best not to make your relationship with Mr. Prescott too tense.”

The moment Director Webb started advising her like this, Anne Sutton understood.

’She hadn’t guessed wrong. This matter was indeed related to Charles Prescott.’

Anne Sutton said to Director Webb, ”I’ll be heading back for today. Thank you, Director, for this opportunity.”

Director Webb said, ”You’re really not going to City A?”

”I’m not going.” Anne Sutton said, ”Do me a favor and tell Charles Prescott that the more he wants me to do something, the less I’ll do as he wishes.”

’Even if she were a complete fool, she could tell he had a guilty conscience. He either wanted her to marry someone else, or he wanted to get rid of her!’

’He’s afraid of me being with Ethan Linden, so he’ll probably say something to Ethan!’

When Anne Sutton came out of the office, she saw Wendy Chambers still standing to the side, looking down on her condescendingly. ”Leaving already? Tsk! I heard Mr. Prescott would rather marry Mia Shaw than you, and that you even chased him all the way to Veridia. Is that true?”

”...” Anne Sutton said, ”What do my affairs have to do with you?”

Wendy Chambers snorted. ”If I were him, I wouldn’t give you the time of day either! You’ve already had an abortion for another man, and you still want him to be with you. You’ve really got some nerve.”

Anne Sutton glanced at her. ”Say what you just said one more time.”
