Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”I thought you understood why I moved out of the house.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I don’t. I thought when I spoke to you, you would understand. That you would have at least a little trust in me.”

’It was bad enough that she just ran off like that last night!’

’But today, she’s trying to avoid me the second she sees me.’

”You have no idea how smug Charles Prescott has been since yesterday. And that President Sterling has been bad-mouthing you. Even Chairman Grant is being pushed aside by them.”

She recalled what Butler Walters had just said—that he was so good to her because...

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”I heard from the butler that because of your condition, you can’t be with other women right now. I’ll find a way to help you get better. You really don’t have to do this for me...”

Nathan Fawcett looked up, his gaze cold and distant as he stared at her.

Anne Sutton felt her confidence waver under his stare and quickly shut her mouth.

They went to the restaurant.

Nathan Fawcett walked in carrying Ian, with Anne Sutton trailing behind him like a prisoner.

’She noticed that this man wasn’t the least bit warm when he was with her.’

’The way he looked at her could hardly be called friendly.’

’And yet, despite not wanting to be with him, she had absolutely no choice in the matter.’

When they arrived at their table, Nathan Fawcett placed Ian in a seat and looked at Anne Sutton, who was standing hesitantly to the side. ”Sit,” he said.

Anne Sutton sat down and glanced at the adorable Ian.

Ian was adorable, but she was in such a terrible mood that she had no appetite for this meal.

A waiter brought over some tea.

Anne Sutton took a sip of tea before asking Nathan Fawcett, ”Have you contacted Chairman Grant?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”No.”

Anne Sutton looked at him and sighed in resignation. ”Then what are we going to do about the Fawcett Family’s affairs?”

”Didn’t I say I would handle it? What are you worried about?” Nathan Fawcett opened a menu and ordered some dishes without asking what Anne Sutton wanted, deciding for her directly.

Fortunately, when the food arrived, there was nothing she didn’t like.

He picked up his chopsticks, first placing some food on Ian’s plate, then on Anne Sutton’s.

Seeing her holding her chopsticks with little appetite, Nathan Fawcett asked, ”What’s wrong? Is having a meal with me that agonizing for you? Are you this upset because you can’t marry Charles Prescott?”

”You know that’s not it,” Anne Sutton said. ”You just didn’t see Charles Prescott’s smug face. We were so close to taking him down yesterday. Now he’s bounced back! I can’t imagine how arrogant he’s going to be from now on.”

Nathan Fawcett placed more food on her plate. ”Even eating can’t keep you quiet.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, noticing how incredibly calm he was.

’Forget it!’

’How could he possibly understand how I feel?’

Ian, sitting beside her, looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”Mommy, did Daddy make you unhappy?”

Anne Sutton looked at Ian, then glanced at Nathan Fawcett. ”He sure did.”

Ian said, ”Then I’ll make him apologize to you.”

”Don’t bother,” Anne Sutton said. ”Even if he apologized, he wouldn’t know what he did wrong.”

’There was nothing she could do about him clinging to her like this.’

’It was just that now, his hopes of inheriting the Fawcett Group had grown slim again!’

Ian said, ”But I don’t want to see you unhappy. If you’re unhappy, Ian will be unhappy too.”

Anne Sutton looked at the little boy and placed some food on his plate. ”Alright, let’s eat.”

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Where did you stay last night?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Out.”

”Out where?”

”...I have my own place,” Anne Sutton said. ”So I moved there.”

”Just to avoid me?”

”I just think that if I live with you, people will get the wrong idea! After all, I’m your sister-in-law.”

”Sister-in-law...” Nathan Fawcett repeated the title, looking at Anne Sutton, almost amused enough to laugh.

Seeing him staring at her, Anne Sutton protested, ”What are you looking at?”

’There was something strange about his gaze.’

”I just find you... interesting. I know you don’t want to be with me right now, and that’s fine. I won’t force you, not before I take back the Fawcett Family.”

That was also why he hadn’t stopped her last night.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, a little surprised. From the way he spoke, it seemed he was truly confident of victory. ”Are you really sure you can take back the Fawcett Family?”

”What do you think?” Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. ”Did you think that because of you, I would give up the right to inherit the entire Fawcett Group? No one turns down more money, especially not a fortune as large as the Fawcett Group.”

”I’m glad to hear you say that,” Anne Sutton said. ”I was just afraid you were acting on impulse.”

”I told you,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”You’re the one who doesn’t trust me. After dinner, you’re coming home with me, and be good about it. When you’re not around, Ian is always bothering me.”

When Anne Sutton was around, Ian had her to keep him company and wouldn’t constantly pester him.

When she was gone, the little rascal would turn into a little terror.

Anne Sutton looked at Ian and said, ”Alright.”

Seeing Anne Sutton smile, Ian brightened up as well.

After dinner, the three of them went home together.

The rain was coming down quite hard, and the sound of it lulled Ian to sleep.

Nathan Fawcett carried him back to his room, tucked him in, and then went to Anne Sutton’s room.

He got into bed and glanced at Anne Sutton, who was lying on her side, reading a book. ”Scoot over,” Nathan Fawcett said.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Come here.”

Anne Sutton looked at the man, and for a moment, the scene seemed to blur with her memories. It was as if the person before her wasn’t Ethan Linden, but Nathan...

In a bit of a daze, she moved closer and was pulled into Nathan Fawcett’s arms. She looked up into his eyes and voluntarily kissed his cheek.

Nathan Fawcett looked at this woman who was so quick on the uptake. ”Not avoiding me anymore?”

”You’re a lot like him.” Anne Sutton put her book down and looked at the man before her, suddenly remembering what Butler Walters had told her that day. ”The butler said that you haven’t had a woman by your side these past few years. Is that true?”

”...” Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett’s face darkened. He couldn’t believe the butler would say such things about him behind his back.

Even though it was the truth, Nathan Fawcett still felt a bit embarrassed.

He looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”What are you trying to say?”

”I’m just surprised, that’s all.” She wrapped her arms around him and leaned against his chest.

’A man like him, with no woman by his side! Even Stella Shields hadn’t ended up with him. It seemed his life really hadn’t been easy.’

It was still raining outside, and listening to the sound of it, she instantly felt drowsy.

Nathan Fawcett gazed at the woman who had fallen asleep in his arms. It was rare to see her this docile, and he found himself in a good mood. He didn’t disturb her or push her away.

He stared at her for a long time before reaching out to turn off the light.

In the morning, the heat was on in the room when Anne Sutton’s alarm went off. It was time for her to go to work, but she didn’t want to get up.

Nathan Fawcett, who was holding her, reminded her, ”If you don’t get up now, you’ll be late. Come on, get up. I’ll take you to work.”

’Her car was still at the hospital, so of course she had to let him drive her!’
