Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton raised an eyebrow. ”Isn’t this for your own good? She didn’t want to leave, so I just let her stay. This gives you, her grandson, more time to be a dutiful grandson.”

”You just enjoy going against me, don’t you?” Charles Prescott stared at her, his eyes filled with resentment.

Anne Sutton wasn’t afraid in the slightest and admitted it directly. ”Yes! I do enjoy going against you. It’s not like you just found that out today. You’re the only thing on my mind now. Mr. Prescott ought to be pleased, right?”

”You’re insane!” Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton, remembering how he had wanted to kiss her at noon, only to be interrupted by Ethan Linden’s arrival. His mood was absolutely foul.

But now that she had Ethan Linden backing her up, there was nothing he could do. He stormed straight out.

...

Seeing him leave, Anne Sutton followed behind him, slowly making her way downstairs.

Downstairs, Nathan Fawcett was holding Ian and greeting Chairman Grant.

Chairman Grant was fiercely loyal to the Fawcett Family, so he naturally supported him.

Anne Sutton walked over and said, ”Uncle Grant.”

Chairman Grant glanced at Anne Sutton, gave a nod, and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Well, I’ll be heading back now.”

”Mm.”

After Chairman Grant went out, he left in his car.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Finished talking?”

Anne Sutton said, ”We didn’t talk about much. It was just about his grandmother. He wasn’t happy about it, so we exchanged a few words.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Let’s go.”

Once the three of them were in the car, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Thank you for today.”

”For what?”

”For them trying to set me up with someone,” Anne Sutton said. ”I’m glad you didn’t agree.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett’s lips twisted into a smirk. ”Even a fool could see that was Charles Prescott’s idea. How are you feeling? The man you trusted wants to marry you off to someone else. You must regret it now, right?”

”I never trusted him.” Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, ”You probably don’t know this, but the reason I got together with Nathan back then was because I didn’t get along with Charles! Don’t lump me together with him.”

”Then how do you explain being with him after Nathan was gone?”

”How do you know about that?” Anne Sutton stared at Nathan Fawcett, stunned.

Back then, she was just putting on a show for Charles Prescott.

Charles was also very conscious of his reputation and would never let anyone find out. In front of others, he still treated her only as his aunt.

After all, Charles Prescott wasn’t about to sacrifice his own reputation for her.

’Even the old chairman didn’t know about this. I can’t believe Ethan Linden actually...’

Seeing that she was still trying to hide it, Nathan Fawcett snorted coldly. ”The only way to keep a secret is to have never done it at all.”

Anne Sutton said, ”That was just a misunderstanding. It’s not what you think...”

”It’s not important.” Nathan Fawcett had no desire to hear more and cut her off. ”Even if you want to be with someone else, that’s fine. If you think I was meddling today, you can find someone you want to marry, and I’ll arrange it for you.”

”...” Hearing his words, Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t want to! And I don’t think you were meddling.”

”Is that so?”

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Can you stop being so passive-aggressive? I don’t owe you anything. Do you have to be like this? If you can’t stand the sight of me, then just let me out of the car.”

”No!” Seeing them getting heated, Ian quickly spoke up. He said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Daddy, why are you bullying Auntie? Apologize to her right now!”

’Apologize?’

’Apologize to Anne Sutton?’

’No way!’

Ian said, ”Then I’m not talking to you anymore! Stop the car. Auntie and I will get out by ourselves.”

He took Anne Sutton’s side, struggling out of Nathan Fawcett’s arms and having Anne hold him instead.

Nathan Fawcett fumed. ’I’m the one who’s always been by his side, who raised him, but the moment Anne Sutton shows up, my place is stolen?’

’Is that fair!’

Anne Sutton looked at Ian’s heartwarming gesture and said, ”Thank you, Ian.”

She was truly envious.

’How could there be a child as adorable as Ian?’

Because Ian was being so mature, it made her feel a bit childish by comparison.

Now, Anne Sutton didn’t feel it was right to bring up getting out of the car anymore.

’Oh well, I’ll just bear with it.’

’We’ll be home soon enough anyway!’

Just then, Nathan Fawcett spoke up. ”Yes, it was my fault! For Ian’s sake, I apologize to you!”

Anne Sutton glanced at him, surprised that he had actually... apologized!

Seeing that Nathan Fawcett had apologized, Ian looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Auntie, please don’t be mad at my daddy anymore! He knows he was wrong! From now on, with Ian here, I won’t let him bully you again.”

Hearing Ian’s words, the corners of Anne Sutton’s mouth lifted into a smile.

Nathan Fawcett looked at his son and said, ”You little rascal, whose side are you on?”

Ian said, ”You’re a boy, so you should give in to girls, right?”

Nathan Fawcett had always doted on his son, and now he was completely wrapped around Ian’s little finger. For Ian’s sake, he decided to let Anne Sutton off the hook for the time being.

Back home, Anne Sutton went upstairs first to wash her face.

For a woman, coming home meant the hassle of removing makeup and washing her face.

Nathan Fawcett took Ian to take a bath.

In the bathroom, Nathan Fawcett looked at Ian and asked, ”Why do you like her so much?”

”I feel like she’s really nice to me.”

Nathan Fawcett’s lip twitched. ”She’s not the only one who’s nice to you. What, am I not good to you?”

’Ian has only known Anne Sutton for two days.’

Ian said, ”I don’t know why, but I just feel a connection to Auntie when I look at her. Daddy, why isn’t Auntie my mommy?”

Although people said Stella Shields was his mother, he really couldn’t feel close to her.

At that moment, he really did wish Anne Sutton was his mom!

Ian’s question made Nathan Fawcett freeze.

He looked at Ian and said, ”If one day, she became your mommy, would you be happy?”

Ian asked, ”She’s going to be my mommy?”

Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett with a mix of anticipation and doubt.

Looking at his silly son’s expectant face, Nathan Fawcett was speechless.

Ian said, ”Auntie said she had a baby too, but sadly, it was gone before it was even born. She’s really sad about it. I wish I could be her baby! Then she wouldn’t be sad anymore.”

”She told you that?”

Ian nodded. ”Mhm.”

Nathan Fawcett thought of Anne Sutton. ’Heh, so she does have a conscience after all!’

’She still remembers our child!’

...

After dinner, Charles Prescott didn’t go home. Instead, he went straight to Mia Shaw’s place.

He sat on the sofa, his expression grim and his mood utterly foul.

Mia Shaw walked over, sat down beside him, and said, ”Bad mood?”

Charles Prescott looked up. ”What do you think?”

Mia Shaw smiled, poured him a bowl of hangover soup, and handed it to him.

Charles Prescott said, ”Just leave it there.”
