Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”Not great,” Anne Sutton said bluntly.

Sean Sutton was taken aback for a moment, then continued, ”Charles Prescott has agreed to help our company. And the man you met, he’s President Sterling’s nephew. He’s actually a good guy; you should consider him. I also hope you can find someone and get married. You’ve been single for such a long time, haven’t you?”

”...Are you serious?” Anne Sutton looked at Sean Sutton.

’He wanted me to marry Charles Prescott before, and now he’s just grabbing any random person and trying to marry me off!’

’For the sake of his company, he’s truly willing to do anything!’

Sean Sutton said, ”I don’t have a choice. I wanted Charles Prescott to marry you, but you weren’t willing, were you? You still feel guilty about the child, so I had to find someone else for you. This Gabe is pretty good. In any case, he’s much better than that sickly Nathan Fawcett from back then, right?”

She had been willing to be with Nathan Fawcett back then. Now, trying to get her together with Jack Gabe, Sean Sutton felt that Jack Gabe was a much better choice than Nathan Fawcett—at least she wouldn’t have to take care of him.

Anne Sutton said, ”I came to see my mother today. If you’re going to keep disgusting me like this, I’m leaving right now.”

Hearing this, Sean Sutton said, ”Anne...”

”I’m going to see my mom.”

Anne Sutton went through the door, not wanting to waste any more words on Sean Sutton.

The surgery was about to begin. She kept her mother company during the preparations, chatting with her as they waited.

Just then, a call came from Nathan Fawcett.

Anne Sutton saw who it was and answered the phone. ”Hello.”

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Where are you?”

He had seen her go downstairs, but then she just disappeared.

Anne Sutton said, ”My mom’s having surgery today. I’m at the hospital with her.”

”Which hospital?” Nathan Fawcett asked.

Anne Sutton told him the hospital’s address, and Nathan Fawcett hung up.

Anne Sutton stared at her phone, wondering why on earth that man had made such a random call.

When the time came, Mrs. Sutton was wheeled into the operating room, and her family could only wait outside.

Even though his wife was in surgery, her life on the line, Sean Sutton was on the phone, talking business.

The call was from Charles Prescott.

”How did it go?”

”Jack Gabe has already left,” Sean Sutton said. ”You know Anne’s temper. There’s no way she’d be interested in someone like him. Charles, about the company... couldn’t you help me take care of it first?”

”Do you think I’m going to help you?” Charles Prescott said. ”You either keep Anne Sutton there with you and don’t let her come back for now, or... you get her together with Jack Gabe. Otherwise... you can just wait to go bankrupt! I’m in a bad mood these days, so don’t test my limits!”

”Fine, I’ll do my best,” Sean Sutton said.

After he spoke, he looked up and saw Anne Sutton staring at him.

Sharon Sutton said, ”Dad, no matter how busy you are with work, you shouldn’t be on the phone at a time like this!”

Sean Sutton retorted, ”If I don’t make these calls, who’s going to run the company? You? You’re about to graduate, and I haven’t seen you find a single decent job. This whole family still depends on me to support them!”

”...” Sean Sutton’s words made Sharon Sutton fall silent.

Sean Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Anne, your mother is having surgery today. Why don’t you stay at the hospital and keep her company for a few days? How about it? Now that you’re back, she’ll definitely be happy to see you.”

”What, did Charles Prescott give you a new assignment?” Although Anne Sutton hadn’t heard what he said on the phone, she could guess that Charles Prescott was often behind the scenes, directing her father to do his dirty work.

’After all, with Ethan Linden back, Charles Prescott must be more anxious than anyone.’

Sean Sutton didn’t expect his daughter to see through him so easily.

He denied it. ”How could that be? I despise him now! He said he would marry you and then went back on his word. I’m your real father, of course I hate his guts. If you don’t like Jack Gabe, we can just find someone else!”

Anne Sutton ignored him. ’Only a fool would believe that!’

The surgery was long. She waited outside for a very long time.

When the surgery was over, Sean Sutton was nowhere to be found.

Anne Sutton accompanied her mother back to the hospital room. Mrs. Sutton slept for a while, and when she woke up, she asked, ”Where’s your father?”

’Her whole life, this woman has been hung up on a man who wasn’t even that good to her.’

Anne Sutton looked at Sharon Sutton, who said, ”I’ll give him a call and ask.”

She didn’t know where her father had gone either.

While Sharon Sutton was on the phone, someone walked in. ”Auntie.”

Anne Sutton looked up and saw Ian at the door.

And with him was Nathan Fawcett.

Anne Sutton was surprised to see Nathan Fawcett. ”What are you two doing here?”

Ian said softly, ”I hadn’t seen you all day, so I came because I wanted to see you.”

Seeing the father and son duo, Sharon Sutton asked, ”Sis, who are these two?”

Anne Sutton said, ”This is Ethan Linden and Ian.”

Hearing this, Sharon Sutton nodded, seeming to only half-understand.

Anne Sutton said a quick word to her mother and then stepped out.

She stood in the hallway, looking at Nathan Fawcett and Ian. ”Have you eaten?”

Ian said, ”Not yet.”

Anne Sutton said, ”My mom just got out of surgery, and my dad isn’t back yet. I have to stay here at the hospital with her tonight, so you two should go get something to eat.”

Nathan Fawcett stared at her and asked, ”Where’s your father?”

”He’s busy with work. I don’t know.”

Just as she said that, Sean Sutton returned.

He was holding his phone, apparently on a call with Sharon Sutton, and he sounded thoroughly annoyed at being summoned. ”I’m at the door already! Can’t you people do anything without your father?”

After speaking, he looked up and saw Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett standing in the doorway.

Nathan Fawcett looked up, his gaze meeting Sean Sutton’s.

Sean Sutton had spent the entire day thinking about how to pacify Anne Sutton so he could get Charles Prescott to release the funds. Seeing Nathan Fawcett now, he broke out in a cold sweat.

’Why is he back again?’

Sean Sutton had met Nathan Fawcett before. In fact, he was one of the people who knew the most about the situation.

Now, seeing the child standing next to Nathan Fawcett, he immediately understood.

He walked over, not knowing why Nathan Fawcett was there, and just asked Anne Sutton, ”How’s your mother?”

Anne Sutton watched her father’s wary expression. It seemed his attitude changed the moment he saw Ethan Linden.

”She’s inside,” Anne Sutton said.

Sean Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett, then said to Anne Sutton, ”I’ll go in and see her first.”

Only after her father went through the door did Anne Sutton look at Nathan Fawcett and ask, ”When are you two heading back?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”What’s the rush? I came because I have something to say to your father.”

”My dad?” Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett in surprise. ”What do you have to say to him?”

’Ethan Linden and my father shouldn’t have any reason to interact!’

His words left Anne Sutton completely baffled.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It has nothing to do with you.”

”...”
