Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Wendy Chambers’s expression tightened under Anne Sutton’s gaze. Rumor had it that Anne had gone a little crazy ever since she lost her child.

She was genuinely a bit afraid to provoke Anne Sutton, so she didn’t dare say anything more to challenge her.

Anne Sutton said, ”At least you know when to quit.”

With that, she walked away.

What Anne Sutton hated most was hearing people talk about the abortion.

It was her greatest vulnerability, and people deliberately used it to mock her, which always made her feel terrible.

As Anne Sutton left the hospital and was about to get into her car, she saw Henry Underwood. ”Ms. Sutton,” Henry said, ”Mr. Prescott is looking for you.”

”Charles Prescott?”

Henry Underwood gestured for her to follow.

Anne Sutton followed his gesture and saw Charles Prescott’s car parked nearby.

Seeing him, Anne Sutton felt no fear and got right into his car.

She got in and saw Charles Prescott sitting beside her. ”What’s all this, Mr. Prescott?” she asked. ”Making a special trip to the hospital just for me?”

Charles Prescott looked at her and asked, ”What did you say to Ethan Linden?”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton smirked. ”So you’re trying everything to get me out of the Fawcett Family because you’re afraid I’ll bad-mouth you to Ethan Linden?”

She loved seeing him afraid of her.

Charles Prescott said, ”Ethan Linden isn’t Nathan Fawcett. You may have been married to Nathan, but he’s long dead. Don’t be so quick to treat Ethan as an ally! How do you know what he’s really after? Once he takes everything from the Fawcett Family, what makes you think any of it will have anything to do with you?”

”As long as it doesn’t end up in your hands, I don’t care!” Anne Sutton retorted. ”Aren’t you supposed to be fearless, Mr. Prescott? How is it that the moment Ethan Linden returns, you’re suddenly scared to death?”

’Perhaps Charles Prescott never imagined that a true Fawcett heir was still out there.’

’Everything he had so carefully plotted was now in jeopardy.’

Seeing he was getting nowhere with Anne Sutton, Charles Prescott took something from his pocket. ”This is for you.”

Anne Sutton glanced over and saw it was a photo of her and Charles Prescott together.

It was from before they went to college. They both looked so young and innocent.

Anne Sutton froze for a moment.

Charles Prescott said, ”Anne, we grew up together. Please don’t hate me like this, okay?”

Anne Sutton stared at the photo. She’d lost so many pictures of herself with Charles when she’d switched phones and had never recovered them.

She never thought he would still have one.

’This bastard...’

’He fails to get rid of me, so now he’s trying to play the sympathy card!’

Anne Sutton looked at the photo and said, ”I’m surprised you kept these, Mr. Prescott.”

Charles Prescott said, ”Everything between us... it was all because of Sylvia Warren, wasn’t it? I’m done with her now, and Nathan Fawcett is gone. We can go back to how things were. Please, don’t hate me so much. Will you? Anne, if we can’t even support and trust each other in this world, who else is there for you to believe in?”

”What a load of bullshit!” Anne Sutton couldn’t stop herself from cursing when she saw him acting like this.

Charles Prescott’s mouth twitched. ”Just look at yourself!”

Anne Sutton said, ”If you really want me to believe you, fine. Tell everyone the truth about the baby, leave the Fawcett Group, and then I’ll believe you. Don’t try to manipulate me. After how you’ve treated me all these years, do you really think I’d ever trust you again? Am I that stupid?”

Charles Prescott retorted, ”What have I done all these years? I was only engaged to Mia Shaw, and that didn’t even go through, did it? And not letting you have the baby was for your own good! Otherwise, do you think you could be so carefree right now? Do you have any idea how hard it is for a single woman to raise a child?”

”Are you done?” Anne Sutton stared at him. ”If you are, I’m getting out.”

She moved to get out, but Charles Prescott grabbed her hand. ”Anne, I was wrong! I know I’ve been awful all these years. Please forgive me! I’ll never be like that again. I’m sorry about the baby. It was all my fault!”

Listening to him, Anne Sutton took out her phone, opened the camera app, aimed it at Charles Prescott, and said, ”Go on, keep talking.”

Charles Prescott: ”...”

Seeing her turn on the camera, he instantly stopped his spiel. ”What are you doing?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Repeat everything you just said! Say you love me. Say you’re sorry. What’s the matter? Scared to say it now?”

”...” Of course Charles Prescott wasn’t going to say that on camera.

Who knew if she would send the recording to someone else.

Anne Sutton said, ”If you’re not going to say it, I’m leaving.”

He clamped his mouth shut and said nothing.

Anne Sutton laughed. ”So that’s all your feelings for me amount to. I’m leaving!”

With that, she opened the door and got out.

Charles Prescott watched her go, utterly exasperated by how impervious she was to his attempts.

Henry Underwood only got in the car after Anne Sutton had left.

Charles Prescott said, ”Look at her! What am I supposed to do now? I begged her, I admitted I was wrong. What more does she want from me?”

Henry Underwood said, ”What if... you married her? You said you would before. Her baby is gone, and you didn’t marry her, so of course she’s furious. But if you two were together, part of the same family, maybe she wouldn’t go spouting nonsense to Ethan Linden. And she wouldn’t bring up what happened with the baby back then.”

Charles Prescott shot back at Henry, ”How am I supposed to marry her? Everyone knows she’s my aunt by marriage! They all know about her and Nathan Fawcett, and she’s a widow! If I actually married her, I’d become a laughingstock! Can’t you come up with a single useful idea?”

Henry Underwood pressed his lips together, at a complete loss.

Charles Prescott said, ”Forget it. Let’s go see Auntie Sutton.”

He thought for a moment and decided his best bet was to approach things through the Sutton family.

After all, from what he knew of Anne Sutton, her family was the only leverage he had over her.

Anne Sutton also drove to the hospital.

Her mother’s surgery had been at a different hospital, one nearby.

Charles Prescott had Henry Underwood buy some gifts before they entered the hospital room.

Sean Sutton was there today as well.

He was taken aback when Charles Prescott and Henry Underwood walked in. ”What are you two doing here?”

Charles Prescott stood to the side, looking at Mrs. Sutton, and asked, ”How is Auntie Sutton’s health?”

Mrs. Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”It’s fine.”

Seeing Charles Prescott, she didn’t know what to say.

She only remembered how Charles Prescott had promised to marry Anne, only to end up trying to marry someone else.

Her heart ached for her daughter, so naturally, she couldn’t give Charles a warm reception.

Charles Prescott said, ”Please rest well and recover. Otherwise, Anne will worry.”

”You have the nerve to mention Anne?” Sean Sutton glared at Charles Prescott. ”Stop being such a hypocrite. Charles Prescott, you’re nothing but a liar! Everything you said about loving Anne and treating her well was all a lie!”

Good thing Nathan Fawcett is back now.

Someone can finally put Charles Prescott in his place.

Otherwise, he would be completely out of control!

Charles Prescott looked at Sean Sutton and said, ”Let’s talk outside.”
