Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

The closer she got, the more violently Nathan Fawcett sneezed.

The butler hurried over and blocked the woman. ”You should leave at once! It’s because you’re here that Sir feels unwell. Don’t come into this office again.”

Hearing the butler, the female secretary said, ”How can I do that? I still need to report to Mr. Linden.”

She was one of Charles Prescott’s people, sent to get close to Nathan Fawcett, so of course, she didn’t want to leave.

The butler heard her and said, ”That won’t be necessary. Just hand over your work and stay far away from Sir from now on. What, are you trying to kill him?”

Nathan Fawcett felt absolutely miserable.

At this, the female secretary glanced at Anne Sutton. Anne said, ”You should go.”

The secretary had no choice but to walk out the door, looking aggrieved.

The butler looked at Nathan Fawcett, quickly took out some medicine, and gave it to him.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching Nathan Fawcett. She asked, ”Are you allergic to perfume? That can’t be right. I’ve worn perfume before, and you were fine.”

Butler Walters said, ”Sir simply dislikes women getting close. He sneezes when they’re near.”

”...” Anne was incredulous as she looked from the butler to Nathan Fawcett.

’The last time I heard that was back when Nathan Fawcett was still alive.’

Her fingers trembled slightly. ’Could two people in this world really be so similar?’

’Even their allergies are identical.’

Anne Sutton said, ”Actually, Nathan was the same way!”

Nathan Fawcett froze for a moment when he heard her. He looked up and saw her staring at him.

Afraid she might see through him, he explained, ”Nathan and I are twin brothers. Isn’t that normal?”

”Then why aren’t you allergic when you’re with me?”

”You’re the exception,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”Why else do you think I’ve taken an interest in you?”

Anne Sutton stared at the man before her, realizing how much he truly resembled Nathan Fawcett.

Being stared at by her made Nathan Fawcett feel very uneasy, as if she could see right through him.

Butler Walters, standing nearby, said to Nathan Fawcett, ”It’s time for the meeting.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at the time and stood up.

Anne Sutton asked, ”Do you need me to go with you?”

”No, you can stay here and look after Ian.” After saying this, Nathan Fawcett walked out, accompanied by the butler.

...

In the conference room, the other board members had all arrived.

Only Nathan Fawcett was missing.

When Nathan Fawcett walked in, all eyes turned to him. He sat down in the seat that had once belonged to Chairman Fawcett.

Unlike the last dinner, attendance was full this time. All the company’s directors were present.

Seated, Nathan Fawcett began, ”Since my father’s passing, the Fawcett Group has been left in the care of President Prescott and Charles Prescott. But this is, after all, a Fawcett Family matter. Now that I’ve returned, I will be the one in charge of everything at the Fawcett Group from now on.”

He wasn’t consulting them; he was issuing a command.

Hearing this, President Sterling immediately let out a scornful laugh.

Chairman Grant asked, ”What are you laughing at?”

’I’ve already spoken with the lawyers!’

’Chairman Fawcett’s will originally granted the inheritance rights to the child Anne Sutton was carrying.’

’It was only because that child was lost that it fell to Miles Prescott and Charles Prescott.’

’Now that Ethan Linden is back, he naturally has the right to take everything back.’

President Sterling said, ”I just don’t think the Fawcett Group should be handed over to Ethan Linden. He’s the old chairman’s son, yes, but can he really manage the Fawcett Group?”

”Whether he manages it well or not, time will tell. But as for who the heir is, I believe the courts will make a fair judgment on that.”

President Sterling said, ”Mr. Grant, I know you’re loyal to the old chairman, but who among us isn’t? Who doesn’t want what’s best for the Fawcett Group? But Ethan Linden... he’s simply not worthy! You all probably don’t know this, but he came back this time for Anne Sutton. He said he wants to marry her. Look at him. He didn’t even show up when his own father passed away, but now, he wants to marry his own sister-in-law. The old chairman adored Nathan. If he knew Ethan was doing something like this, he’d turn in his grave.”

Chairman Grant said, ”What are you talking about? Ethan’s not that kind of person! He only sees Anne Sutton as his sister-in-law. He would never do anything to cross that line.”

After speaking, he looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”Right, Ethan?”

Miles Prescott, sitting to the side, glanced at Nathan Fawcett and smiled. ”If what President Sterling said is false, then of course, there’s no issue. But if... Ethan really intends to carry on shamelessly with his sister-in-law, we will not agree to it. That kind of behavior would completely ruin the Fawcett Group’s reputation!”

From the office, Anne Sutton watched the situation in the conference room and saw that everyone was targeting Ethan Linden.

’Of course...’

’She knew it would turn out this way!’

’How could Charles Prescott possibly let this opportunity go?’

’He’s definitely using me to relentlessly attack Ethan Linden!’

With that thought, she walked out of the office and went straight to the conference room.

...

When she entered, everyone’s gaze fell upon her.

President Sterling looked at Anne Sutton and laughed. ”Anne, you’re here. Perfect timing. In front of everyone, why don’t you tell us if there’s anything between you and Ethan Linden. Did this man or did he not say he was going to marry you?”

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”No. I don’t know how you could say such a thing. Ethan Linden is Nathan’s younger brother. There is nothing between us.”

”...” Charles Prescott sat to the side, watching Anne Sutton. He knew she would never admit it.

He said to Anne Sutton, ”We can’t just take your word for it, Aunt Anne. If you want to prove you have nothing to do with my second uncle, that’s fine too. All you have to do is agree to marry Jack Gabe.”

”...” Anne Sutton hadn’t expected Charles Prescott to use this to force her hand.

She gave a slight, wry smile. ”And why should I marry Jack Gabe?”

”If you don’t marry him, doesn’t that just confirm you have designs on my second uncle? Otherwise, why wouldn’t you marry a man as eligible as Jack Gabe?”

Anne Sutton said to Charles Prescott, ”I’m not marrying him, of course, because... I can’t bear to leave you!”

Anne Sutton said the last few words with a flirtatious lilt.

She raised an eyebrow, looked at Charles Prescott, and said, ”When Nathan passed away, you told me to get rid of his child and be with you. I refused, and you tried to force me. After I lost the baby, you were going to marry Mia Shaw. And now, you’re so desperate to get rid of me that you even want me to marry Jack Gabe? What’s so great about him? If I’m going to marry anyone, it would be you!”

Nathan Fawcett, sitting in his chair, watched Anne Sutton, shocked that she would say all this in front of everyone.

Hearing this, Charles Prescott’s face darkened.

He looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Aunt Anne, don’t talk nonsense. We may have been engaged once, but you chose my uncle. From that moment on, there has been nothing between us.”
