Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”For Ian’s sake.” Nathan Fawcett glanced at his son and realized Ian was a really good excuse.

Sure enough, after hearing this, Ian didn’t forget to praise him. ”Dad, you’re so amazing!”

His eyes were filled with adoration for his father.

Anne Sutton looked at Ian and said, ”Thank you, Ian.”

Nathan Fawcett watched her and said sarcastically, ”Oh, so it’s ’thank you, Ian,’ but no ’thank you’ for me?”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton smiled. She hadn’t expected him to be jealous of even Ian. ”Thank you too, Mr. Linden.”

”...” Nathan Fawcett was taken aback as he watched her smile.

He usually only saw her smile at Ian. Whenever she saw him, she always wore a grim, resentful expression.

Now that she had smiled just for him, Nathan Fawcett was a little dazed.

’He really must have gone too long without any contact with women!’

...

When they got home, the driver stopped the car at the entrance.

Nathan Fawcett got out first. After lifting Ian out, he turned back, glanced at Anne Sutton, and offered her a hand.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, surprised he had even thought of her today.

His sudden thoughtfulness made her feel very unsettled.

Charles Prescott was at home.

Leo was sitting to one side. ”Dad, I miss my mommy,” he said.

Charles Prescott glanced at him, realizing that with Leo and the old woman here, he hadn’t had a single day of peace.

And whenever that woman, Sylvia Warren, was mentioned, he felt nothing but disdain.

Just then, Henry Underwood walked in and said to Charles Prescott, ”Ms. Sutton is back.”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott frowned. ”When did she get back?”

”Just now. She came back with Mr. Linden!”

Charles Prescott thought of that useless Sean Sutton. ’I can’t believe he couldn’t even handle such a simple task.’

’If Anne Sutton stays by Ethan Linden’s side, who knows what she’ll say to sow discord.’

’The more she talks, the worse the situation will become for me and my father.’

...

Sean Sutton was in the hospital room, taking care of Mrs. Sutton.

Sharon Sutton had also gone to get some food.

He chatted with Mrs. Sutton for a while. He was in a good mood since the family’s problems had been resolved.

Just then, he received a call from Charles Prescott.

Sean Sutton answered. ”Hello.”

Charles Prescott said, ”So you don’t want your company anymore? I told you to keep Anne there and not let her come back. What do you think you’re doing?”

Sean Sutton retorted, ”What’s wrong with her coming home?”

Charles Prescott was surprised by Sean Sutton’s sudden backbone.

”It seems you don’t want your company anymore.”

”Give me a break!” Sean Sutton said. ”I see you for who you really are! You never wanted to help me! You just wanted me to do your bidding. If it weren’t for you, Anne wouldn’t hate me so much. I’ve done so much for you, and you’ve done nothing good for the Sutton Family!”

Charles Prescott couldn’t believe it. The same man who was sucking up to him during the day had completely changed his tune.

Charles Prescott said, ”Are you serious?”

Now that Sean Sutton had someone backing him, his confidence swelled. ”Of course. Don’t call me again! I’m not listening to a word you say anymore! You’re a damn liar!”

With that, Sean Sutton hung up.

Previously, it was always Charles Prescott who hung up on him.

This was the first time he had ever hung up first.

Charles Prescott stared at the disconnected call, his face dark with rage.

’What a piece of work!’

’Sean Sutton actually had the gall to do that.’

”Henry Underwood!”

Charles Prescott barked, fuming.

Henry Underwood replied, ”Yes, sir.”

Charles Prescott ordered, ”Go find out what’s going on with Sean Sutton.”

”Yes, sir!”

It was around midnight when Henry Underwood finally had an answer. Charles Prescott was sitting in his room, reviewing company files.

He was still furious, but he couldn’t neglect his work.

Henry Underwood came in and said, ”Mr. Linden has already transferred the funds to Sean Sutton’s company.”

”...” Charles Prescott looked up at Henry Underwood. Hearing the news, he finally understood why Sean Sutton had suddenly grown so bold.

’Well, I’ll be damned.’

’So his problem is solved, and that’s why he’s so arrogant!’

But...

’Ethan Linden helped Sean Sutton the moment he arrived!’

’Is he really that reckless?’

’Isn’t he afraid of just throwing his money down the drain?’

Henry Underwood looked at Charles Prescott and asked, ”What do we do now?”

If Sean Sutton refused to listen to them, it would be impossible to make Anne Sutton get married or even leave for a few days.

Charles Prescott said, ”I have a plan!”

No matter what, he refused to accept defeat.

He wouldn’t rest until he got Anne Sutton out of that house.

’She can get Ethan Linden to help her family today; who’s to say she won’t get Sean Sutton to betray me tomorrow!’

Before Ethan Linden showed up, he could act with impunity.

He never had to worry about what Anne Sutton might say to anyone else.

’But Ethan Linden is different. What if he actually listens to her?’

The next morning, just as Anne Sutton was getting out of bed, she received a call from the hospital.

It was from her director.

”Sutton, has your leave ended?”

Anne Sutton had taken annual leave.

She had been off for a few days.

But now that she was back from Veridia, she didn’t have much else to do.

Since her director was calling at this hour, he most likely needed her for something.

Anne Sutton asked, ”Director, is something the matter?”

Director Webb said, ”If you’re free, could you come to the hospital? There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”

”What is it?” Anne Sutton asked, curious.

Director Webb replied, ”We have an opportunity for a training program in City A, and I wanted to see if you’d be interested.”

”Training in City A?” Anne Sutton asked. ”Wasn’t that opportunity supposed to go to Wendy Chambers?”

Going to City A was an excellent opportunity.

Ever since Nathan Fawcett had left, and with Charles Prescott targeting her, the good opportunities at the hospital never came her way.

She had long since resigned herself to this fact.

She could only watch as Wendy Chambers climbed the ladder, step by step, far surpassing her own position.

She never expected Director Webb to be calling her now of all times.

Director Webb explained, ”Chambers said she has a family issue and can’t go. You’re one of our hospital’s most talented people, so I immediately thought of you!”

In the past, Anne Sutton would have been thrilled to hear Director Webb say something like this.

But now, with Ethan Linden here, Ian around, and her mother just out of surgery... going to City A for a training exchange meant she wouldn’t be able to return for a long time.

Anne Sutton was no longer interested.

”But I can’t go right now. I have a lot of family matters to attend to.”

”Sutton,” Director Webb said, ”this is a rare opportunity for you. I fought hard to get it for you. If you don’t seize the chances that are right in front of you, who’s going to think of you for the next one? I know you’re busy, but this really is a great opportunity. Give it some serious thought. Once you’ve made up your mind, give me a call.”

With that, Director Webb hung up.

Anne Sutton stared at her phone, still finding it hard to believe.

’An opportunity she used to beg for is now being offered to her while she’s on vacation?’

Feeling uneasy, Anne Sutton got out of bed anyway.
