Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 300: Chapter 301: Sublimation

Runar’s mind raced through every option he had, but each one ended in failure. Attacking her from outside the battlefield would be useless, because she would likely deflect it without even looking. Setting up a runic trap with the Multiversal cores he had collected would take too long, and the guardian would be dead before the trap was ready. Waiting for her to exhaust herself was equally pointless, because she did not appear to be spending energy in any way he could measure. She was not fighting through power; she was fighting through truth. Her will defined what was allowed to exist, and the guardian was being denied the right to continue existing.

He had always relied on his comprehension to solve every problem he encountered, holding a deep, unshakable belief that with enough understanding, absolutely anything was possible. He believed that barriers, bloodlines, innate talent, and even the massive gaps between realms could all be overcome if one’s comprehension went deep enough, making that very belief the core of his identity. His will was supreme, forged through countless trials, deaths, and rebirths, and he flatly refused to accept this ending just because someone else was born with a higher starting point. He would not allow a gap in talent or a Paragon’s clone to steal his future, deciding in that exact moment to rely on his Heaven-Defying Comprehension to bridge the impossible divide.

That decision did not come as a desperate thought or a fleeting emotion; it settled into him like iron being driven into the foundation of his soul. If comprehension was his path, then he could not turn away from something he could not yet understand. If the woman’s power seemed impossible, then that impossibility was simply another wall he had not yet learned how to read. If the heavens had placed a gap between mortal and Paragon, then he would not bow to that gap. He would study it. He would break it down.

He would climb it even if every step tore his mind apart. The very idea of kneeling before an insurmountable difference felt more unbearable than death itself, because it would mean betraying everything that had carried him this far.

As that ironclad resolve settled deep into his bones, something profound and ancient began to stir within the very bottom of his consciousness. It wasn’t a surge of spiritual energy or the activation of a new principle, but rather something far more fundamental—a direct, visceral response to his absolute refusal to bow to the heavens or accept the limits placed upon him by the universe. A quiet, dormant pressure that had always existed in the back of his mind began to shift and expand, answering the desperate, roaring call of his unyielding will. It did not feel like power being granted from the outside; it felt like something that had always belonged to him finally waking up because he had proven he was willing to use it.

Runar’s golden-white eyes burned with a blinding, fierce light as he stared into the broken battlefield, his Heaven-Defying Comprehension finally waking up to challenge the very laws of reality. He didn’t just want to understand the runes she was using; he wanted to understand the will that allowed her to use them without energy, the authority that allowed her to bypass the system entirely. He pushed his perception forward again, this time not to scan the battlefield as a whole, but to focus on a single fading trace of one of her will-made runes. Pain exploded behind his eyes the moment he touched it, and a thin line of blood slid down from the corner of his nose, yet he did not retreat. He forced himself to hold onto that fragment, not by trying to copy it, but by trying to understand why it could exist without obeying the rules he knew.

The fragment resisted him like a mountain resisting an ant, but Runar’s thoughts did not waver. He did not ask how he could reproduce it, because that question was too small. He asked why reality accepted it, and that question struck something deeper. In the span of a single painful heartbeat, a sliver of understanding pierced through the chaos in his mind: will could precede energy, comprehension could command structure, and authority did not require permission from the world if it was complete enough to impose itself. That sliver was tiny, almost insignificant compared to the full depth of what the woman wielded, but it was real. It was his. And once it took root in his consciousness, the rest of his understanding began to shift around it.

High above the layer, the Ancient Will felt that shift and went completely still. It had been observing the battle with cold calculation, tracking the clone’s movements and measuring the guardian’s collapse, but the moment Runar’s consciousness changed, its attention snapped toward him with an intensity it had not shown since the trial began. It could see that he was not cultivating, not absorbing energy, and not using any conventional method to resist the battlefield’s pressure. He was reading. He was reading a Paragon’s will-made runes from the outside of the death zone, and he was not dying. That fact alone was impossible enough to make the Will reassess everything it had calculated about him.

Such a Heaven-Defying Comprehension, the Ancient Will thought, as an old memory surfaced from the deepest records left behind by the Rune Sovereign. When comprehension refuses to bow to heaven, it becomes a law of its own.

The Will had once considered that phrase nothing more than the Sovereign’s private musing, a line buried among countless research notes that had never been proven. Now, watching Runar’s consciousness adapt in real time, it began to wonder if the Sovereign had not been musing at all. Perhaps he had been describing something he had actually seen, something rare enough that even a Paragon would record it carefully. The vessel she had chosen was not merely talented; he was dangerous in a way that had nothing to do with raw strength. If his comprehension continued to grow under pressure, then the trial might produce something even the Will had not fully anticipated.

At the center of the battlefield, the Mysterious Woman also sensed something change. Her expression remained calm, but her attention briefly shifted toward the edge of the broken territory, where Runar stood with blood on his face and golden-white light burning in his eyes. She had noticed him earlier, of course, because a being with the Eye of Myriad Truths was never truly invisible to someone of her level, but she had dismissed him as irrelevant to her main objective. Now, for the first time, she felt a faint ripple of interest, because he was not running, not hiding, and not merely watching. He was trying to understand her.

That alone made him more interesting than anyone else in the Reliquary.

Still, interest did not mean hesitation. The guardian was on the verge of collapse, and the core would soon be exposed. If Runar wanted to interfere, he would have to step into the battlefield, and stepping into that battlefield meant accepting the consequences of facing a Paragon’s will. She did not believe he could survive it, but if he did, then perhaps he would prove himself worth remembering beyond his potential. If he failed, he would simply become another fragment lost in the broken space-time.

Runar did not know what the woman was thinking, nor did he care. The fragment of understanding he had gained was already burning through his mind, forcing his thoughts to move faster than his body could follow. His dual halos spun with increasing speed, and the Principle of Runes inside him resonated with the newborn sliver of comprehension as though it had been waiting for this exact moment. The suppression around him trembled again, not because it weakened, but because his understanding had briefly touched a rule that sat above the suppression. For the first time since entering the Reliquary, Runar felt as though he was not merely reading the world within the trial, but reading the trial itself.

He took one step forward.

The moment his foot touched the outer edge of the broken battlefield, pain tore through his body as space tried to split him into timeline fragments and residual runes tried to erase his presence. The conflicting authorities of the woman and the guardian crashed against him like two oceans colliding, and his mortal body protested with every fiber it had. Blood vessels burst beneath his skin, his bones groaned under conceptual pressure, and his vision fractured into multiple possible versions of himself. Yet his golden-white eyes remained fixed on the center of the battlefield, and the fragment of comprehension he had seized flared to life beneath his will.

A thin golden-white rune appeared beneath his foot, crude and unstable compared to the woman’s perfect script, but it held. It was not a rune drawn from energy, nor was it a structure built through conventional cultivation. It was a rune born from refusal, from understanding, and from the sheer decision that he would not be denied. That single rune allowed him to take another step, and then another, each one sending fresh waves of pain through his body while also proving that the impossible gap ahead of him was not truly absolute.

The Mysterious Woman finally turned her head fully toward him, and for the first time since the battle began, her expression showed a clear change. It was not fear, not concern, and not even surprise in the ordinary sense. It was recognition. She recognized what he was doing, because he was doing something that should not have been possible at his level. He was using comprehension to defy the order of existence itself.

Runar met her gaze across the broken battlefield, blood running down his face, his body trembling under the weight of laws that wanted to erase him, and his eyes did not waver. The hunt for the Pseudo-Paragon had become a race, and the race had become a confrontation, because he had refused to remain a spectator at the edge of his own future. Deep within his consciousness, the awakening continued to expand, devouring the impossible truths of the battlefield and forging them into the foundation of something new.

He had no intention of losing.
