Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 252: Chapter 253: New Baseline

Runar opened his eyes.

The void around him felt different. Not because the space itself had changed, but because he had. The golden light surrounding his body was denser now, more restrained, yet far heavier than before. What had once been an early Beginner-stage Multiversal foundation carrying a little over a thousand universes had transformed. Approximately four hundred million universes now existed within him, fully integrated and stable. He had stepped firmly into the mid-Advanced stage of the Multiversal realm.

He sat motionless for a long moment, simply feeling the new baseline of his existence.

Power flowed through him with a smoothness that had not existed before. Principles that once required deliberate focus now responded to the slightest intention. A faint thought about space, and the void around him subtly shifted. A quiet consideration of time, and the flow of residual energy nearby slowed for a fraction of a second. The upgraded Principle of Devour sat quietly among his core abilities, refined far beyond the incomplete version the dragon had used. It no longer felt like a stolen tool waiting to be tested. It felt natural—an extension of his will that hungered only when he allowed it to. Hundreds of supporting principles—space, time, destruction, creation, fate, order, chaos, and many others—had been properly digested and made his own. They no longer felt like borrowed tools. They felt like limbs he had always possessed but only now fully understood how to move.

Memories that did not belong to him continued to surface in controlled fragments.

He allowed some of them to play out in his mind, examining them with the same calm precision he had used during the digestion.

In one memory he stood on the surface of a dying universe, watching stars collapse into the open maw of a much younger Void Devouring Dragon. The sensation of heat, of collapsing laws, of screaming energy being pulled inward—all of it was vivid. In another he felt the sensation of swallowing an entire Multiversal being whole—the brief resistance of a struggling will, the flood of foreign principles pouring into an already crowded core, the crude way those principles were simply stored without true understanding or integration. He saw glimpses of distant sectors where the void was denser, where stronger beings moved with casual authority, and where the Void race was spoken of with genuine fear rather than distant legend. He experienced fragments of battles against Adept and Advanced-tier opponents: the dragon’s arrogance, its reliance on raw consumption rather than refined technique, the moments when pure volume of power had been enough to overwhelm more skilled but weaker opponents.

What a waste, Runar thought as another memory faded. So many principles, so much accumulated power, and it never bothered to truly make them its own. If that dragon had properly integrated even half of what it stole... the fight would have been very different.

The realization carried a quiet edge of caution. The Void Devouring race was dangerous not only because of the Principle of Devour itself, but because of the sheer volume of power they could accumulate through endless consumption. A smarter member of that race—one who actually refined what it took—would be a true nightmare. Runar filed that understanding away carefully. The multiverse was larger and more dangerous than the relatively quiet sector he currently occupied.

Runar exhaled slowly and turned his attention to more practical matters.

He could not stay in this sector forever. The recent events had already drawn too much attention. Multiple Universe Wills had witnessed him dismantle an Advanced-tier predator and then absorb its entire foundation in real time. Word would spread, eventually. More importantly, his family still needed protection, and the deeper regions of the multiversal void were not yet safe for them. Celestia, Cassia, and Nyla had grown significantly under his guidance, but they were still far from the level required to move freely through the true void without constant risk.

He would leave a stable, high-quality clone with them.

The main body would continue outward.

A faint sigh escaped him.

”Those two are not going to be happy about this,” he muttered under his breath. ”Well... whatever. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.”

He had just finished the thought when a familiar presence approached.

William drifted closer through the void, his form stable and calm. There was no excessive caution in his posture. The two of them had already established a working relationship, and the recent crisis had only reinforced it. Still, Runar could sense the subtle shift in William’s attention—the way the Universe Will studied the denser golden light around him, the quiet recalculation happening behind those steady eyes.

”In my whole life as a Will lifeform,” William said once he was within comfortable speaking distance, ”I have rarely seen people with the same terrifying capabilities as yours. Most of them only existed in rumors. But you... you’re still on a whole other level from even those.”

Runar glanced at him. ”Why do you say that?”

William’s expression was serious. ”Because you are young. The youngest ’disgusting genius’ I ever heard of was still hundreds of thousands to millions of years old. From what I can roughly estimate... you are only a few decades old. That is what is truly terrifying. Your speed of cultivation is stupidly fast.”

Runar smiled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck. The gesture felt almost out of place against the weight of his new foundation, but old habits remained.

”Well,” he said, ”what can I say? I am just a genius.”

William clicked his tongue. ”Tch. Show-off.”

A short silence passed before William continued in a more practical tone.

”Anyway. What are your future plans now? Are you leaving?”

”Yes,” Runar answered without hesitation. ”I won’t rest until I am at the peak—until no one can threaten me. Not even the author.”

William studied him for a moment, the faint amusement in his eyes dimming into something more thoughtful. ”You could just lay low. Avoid offending the wrong beings and live out your infinite years in peace.”

Runar shook his head. The golden light around him pulsed once, quiet but firm. ”You just watched what happened. That Void Devouring Dragon came out of nowhere and nearly erased the entire sector. If I hadn’t been strong enough, none of us would be having this conversation. Strength is the only reliable guarantee.”

William sighed. ”True. I suppose you are right.”

He paused, then asked, ”So when will you be leaving? And where to?”

”I have a few places in mind,” Runar replied. He let a few of the dragon’s clearer memories surface again—coordinates of denser void regions, sectors where stronger beings gathered, places where knowledge and resources were more concentrated. ”I pulled the locations from the dragon’s memories. I also plan to head to the Multiversal Reincarnation Academy eventually—after I make a name for myself and fulfill the deal with you and Willith. I’ll recommend them to send more reincarnators to your universes.”

William looked mildly surprised. ”I thought you might ignore the deal. You’re many times stronger than me now.”

”A deal is a deal,” Runar said simply. ”I don’t go back on my word.”

William’s expression eased. A quiet respect settled into his posture. ”That’s good to hear. Tell me when you’re ready to depart. And...” A faint note of amusement entered his voice. ”I reckon those two lovely ladies of yours won’t take it lightly that you’re leaving.”

Runar let out a long, genuine sigh. The thought of Celestia and Cassia’s reactions alone was enough to make the newly acquired mid-Advanced foundation feel somehow less absolute. ”Don’t bring that up. I’m already getting a headache just thinking about it.”

William laughed, the sound carrying clearly through the void.

”You are an Advanced-level Multiversal being capable of destroying a sector that holds hundreds of millions of universes,” he said, ”and you’re getting a headache because of two ladies. The irony.”

Runar gave him a flat look, but there was no real irritation behind it. The conversation settled into a more comfortable silence afterward. William did not press further. He simply remained nearby for a while longer, as if making sure the strange and terrifying young genius was still willing to stay civil, before eventually drifting back toward his own membrane.

Runar stayed where he was.

His eyes closed once more, but this time the focus was lighter. The major digestion was complete. What remained was refinement—polishing the newly acquired principles, sorting the most useful memories, and adjusting to the solid mid-Advanced foundation he now possessed. The four hundred million universes within him pulsed in quiet harmony. The Principle of Devour rested, refined and waiting. The road ahead was long, but for the first time since he had broken through to the Multiversal realm, the foundation beneath his feet felt truly solid.

The sector continued to watch from a respectful distance.

The being who had saved them was no longer the same as the one who had first arrived.

And he was already thinking about the road ahead.

DONT YOU DARE IGNORE THE AUTHOR NOTE.

Author’s Note:

The Universal Arc is coming to a close very soon. Thank you all for sticking with this story despite its many plot holes bad and uneven writing — I genuinely appreciate every one of you who continued reading and also continued to support me.

I also just realized something embarrassing: the book is titled Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God, yet Runes have only appeared briefly during Runar’s early childhood. For a story supposedly centered around runes, he has barely used them. I’ll need to correct that going forward somehow, any ideas on how to fix that?.

Runar will be leaving his universe soon. Are you ready? Let’s gooooo!

I’m starting to run low on ideas for the next arc, and writer’s block is already creeping in. I didn’t even properly plan the Void Devouring Dragon arc or the tournament arc — it simply appeared in my head and I ran with it. I have no detailed plot outline or structure.

Which is why the plot and story is all over the place. But at least it gave my story one unique feature. My story is not generic or repeated slop, every plot is unique.(at least in my opinion.)

So I’m opening the floor to you. Drop your suggestions in the comments: plot directions, new characters, worldbuilding ideas, power system expansions, possible conflicts — anything at all. Your input will genuinely help keep the story moving.

Looking forward to reading them.

DONT YOU DARE LEAVE WITHOUT COMMENTING.
