Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 269: Chapter 270: Memories of the Paragon 2

[AN: I really like this Chapter]

He shoved the frustration aside and locked his Eye onto the new strokes. Focus. Read. Copy. Whatever he could grab before it disappeared.

’I can’t let this opportunity go to waste’

The second rune formed. Different from the first. The self-referencing structure was still there, but now it had branches. Sub-loops within loops. Each branch governed a different aspect of the rune’s function, but they all fed back into the central structure. The complexity was staggering. Runar’s mind strained to hold even a fraction of it.

He caught another fragment. The way the sub-loops communicated with each other was not sequential. They did not pass information one to the next like links in a chain. They resonated. Like tuning forks struck at the same frequency. The information transfer was instantaneous. Complete. No delay. No degradation.

’Instantaneous internal communication between rune components. No signal propagation. No travel time. The parts just... know. Because they are all expressions of the same underlying pattern.’

Another piece of his foundational understanding cracked open and reformed in his mind.

Then the figure’s hand paused mid drawing ’hmmmn, not what i was looking for’ and he swept his hands sideways. And the rune instantly dissolved. Erased and forever Gone.

He started again.

’You fucking perfectionist freak, can you calm down a bit? I am still memorizing them.’

The figure did not hear him. Could not hear him. This was a memory. A recording. Runar was watching the past, not participating in it. But that did not stop the irritation from bubbling up. He was sitting in the best lecture of his life and the professor kept wiping the board.

He grit his teeth mentally and focused again.

The figure began drawing again, the third rune. Faster this time. The figure’s strokes were more confident. More fluid. The structure that emerged was even denser. Layers upon layers of self-referencing loops, nested so deeply that Runar’s Eye could barely track the bottom levels. But he caught something. A principle he had never considered. The rune did not just describe a law. It argued with it. It presented a counter-structure that forced the surrounding principles to adapt around it. Not override. Not destroy. Negotiate. The rune convinced reality to bend, rather than breaking it.

’Runes that negotiate with principles instead of overriding them. That means no backlash. No resistance. No structural damage to the local laws. The rune simply... persuades.’

And suddenly the rune he was studying was Gone. Erased and Wiped clean.

’Oh, come ON.’

Fourth rune. The figure was faster now. Strokes flowing one into the next with barely a pause. Runar’s Eye burned trying to keep up. He caught the opening structure. A triple-nested self-reference that created what felt like a closed time loop within the symbol itself. The rune experienced its own creation and completion simultaneously. It was finished the moment it began. It began the moment it finished. Cause and effect folded into a single point.

’Temporal self-containment. The rune exists outside its own timeline. It was always complete. It will always be complete. It never needs to be activated because it never has a moment of being inactive.’

Erased.

’You absolute—mother fuc....’

But the situation did not cease but escalated.

Fifth rune. Sixth. Seventh. Each one vanished before Runar could fully grasp it. Each one left behind a fragment. A sliver. A single thread of understanding that he grabbed with desperate mental fingers before the figure wiped the board clean again.

He stopped counting after the ninth erasure.

The figure worked in silence. Patient. Methodical. Unaware or aware(who knows) of the frustrated student watching over his shoulder. Draw. Examine. Erase. Draw. Examine. Erase. Each iteration slightly different. Each one reaching for something the previous attempt had not quite captured.

And Runar, despite the irritation, despite the impossibility of keeping up, was collecting pieces. Small ones. Fragmented ones. But each fragment was a door he had never known existed. Self-referencing structures. Resonant communication. Negotiation with principles. Temporal self-containment. Recursive definition loops. Each one cracked open a part of his rune comprehension he had not even known was closed.

The figure spoke without turning around. His voice was quiet. Tired. Focused. The voice of someone who had been working for a very long time and was not yet satisfied.

”Still not enough. The language needs to reach further.”

’Not enough? You are writing at a level I can barely read a single stroke of, and you call it not enough? Just how high does your standard sit?’

He swept one hand sideways in a calm, almost lazy motion. Entire constellations of floating script folded inward. They inverted themselves. They locked into completely new configurations that bore no resemblance to what they had been before. Trillions of sheets. Trillions. Rearranged in a single gesture. No effort. No strain. Like sweeping dust off a table.

”Again.”

The vision shifted without any transition. No fade. No blur. No warning. One instant the workshop existed. felt the The next it was gone. Runarchange like a page turning.

’The scene just changed. No transition. No warning. One moment the workshop, the next somewhere else. These are not live. They are recorded moments, strung together. Looks like this is a memory. A piece of the past left inside the runes, waiting for someone with the right eyes to read it.’

The same figure now stood on empty void. No ground. No sky. Just him and the endless dark stretching in every direction. He looked down. Beneath his gaze, a multiverse spread out. Runar could see it clearly. Every sector. Every universe. Every thread of law and principle holding it all together. It appeared small from this height. Almost fragile. Like a soap bubble held up to the light. Countless points of existence reflected clearly in the figure’s dark eyes like distant stars seen through a window.

’Is that... a multiverse? Sectors. Universes. All of it spread out below him like a map. He is looking down at it the way a gardener looks at a garden. Like it is small. Like it is fragile.’

He could have reached down and plucked one out. Like picking a fruit from a branch. Like lifting a pebble from a stream.

The figure raised one hand.

Distant principles trembled. Runar felt it even here, inside the memory. A shudder. Brief. Single. Running through the fundamental rules governing everything below. The laws that held universes together. The principles that defined what was possible and what was not. They shivered once, like a dog hearing a sound it did not recognize. Then they stilled. Waited. Held their breath for further instruction.

’The principles trembled. Not because he attacked them. Because they felt him. They recognized him and waited for his order. Principles do not do that for Multiversals. They do not do that for anyone I know of.’

The figure lowered his hand.

”Almost ready.”

’Ready? Ready for what? What is he preparing that requires rewriting a whole language and making principles wait?’

Another shift. Instant. Complete. Like blinking and finding yourself in a different room.

The figure stood before a completed structure. Runar recognized it immediately. The proportions. The spatial folding. The deep, layered architecture. The way the internal space exceeded the external shell by orders of magnitude. It was unmistakably the same place he now walked through. The same forest. The same rune-constructed reality. The same suppression field. The same living trees.

Except in the memory it was still bright. Still new. Still unfinished at the edges, with raw, unwritten spaces waiting to be filled. Like a painting with the final brushstrokes not yet applied.

’That is... this place. The forest. The folded space. The suppression. It is all here. But new. Bright. Unfinished. So this is the moment it was built. Which means this was never a ruin to begin with. It was made. Deliberately. By him.’

The figure studied the structure in silence for a long time. He did not move. He did not speak. He simply looked at what he had built. His expression held no pride. No regret. No attachment. Only assessment. Only the quiet satisfaction of a craftsman examining his work and deciding whether it was good enough.

When he finally spoke, his voice was soft. Final. The voice of someone closing a book they had been writing for longer than most things existed.

”This will do. A little chaos for the road.”

’A little chaos? The suppression. The lock on everything except runes. The competition it forces on everyone inside. That is not decay. That is design. He seeded this place with chaos on purpose. The fighting outside, the scrambling, the greed... all of it is part of his plan.’

He began to turn his head. Slowly. The motion was unhurried. Casual. As if he might look straight toward the point from which Runar was observing. His dark eyes started to shift. The angle changed. The distance between observer and observed narrowed. Runar felt a sudden, sharp pressure behind his own eyes. The Eye of Myriad Truths flared.

’He is turning. He can sense me? Through a recorded memory? That should not be possible. A memory cannot see its observer.’

The residual memory cut off before their eyes could meet.

But what runar didn’t know was that there was a smile on that person face.

---

The forest returned.

It came back in pieces. First the ground under his feet. Then the weight of the air. Then the trees, solid and dark and real around him. Then the sound of the wind moving through rune-leaves. Layer by layer, reality reassembled itself.
