Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 261: Chapter 262: The First Chamber

The light of the teleportation door faded behind him.

Runar’s feet touched solid ground. For a single heartbeat, everything felt normal. The air was still. The space was quiet. His body felt like his body.

Then the suppression hit.

It was not a gradual pressure or a slow tightening, like a hand closing around your throat. It was an absolute, crushing weight that slammed down on every part of his existence at the same instant. His knees almost buckled. A sharp, involuntary breath left his lungs. His vision blurred for a fraction of a second. His thoughts stuttered.

”What the fuck... this place is fucking dangerous.”

The words came out low and rough. He stood perfectly still, forcing his breathing to steady while his mind raced through the damage the suppression had caused. He needed to understand what was happening. He needed to know exactly what had been taken from him.

Every principle he had spent so long refining — thousands upon thousands of them, layered and interconnected — was locked down hard. He could still feel them inside him. They were there. They existed. But they were buried under layers of invisible chains, pressed flat, silenced. Like books locked in a vault he could see but not open. The hundreds of millions of universes he carried within his cultivation had been compressed and muted until they felt like distant memories rather than living power. Faint echoes of something he used to be.

Even his body had changed. His form, which had long since become pure information particles — something beyond flesh, beyond matter, beyond the limitations of physical existence — was being forced into something heavier, slower and denser. He reverted to Physical matter. Real flesh and bone under the suppression. He could feel his heart beating again. He could feel the weight of his own limbs. It was like being shoved back into a cage he had escaped just a few years ago.

”Come on i just began my journey and i am already suppressed again.” He was thought frustratedly.

He clenched one hand into a fist and felt the difference immediately. The muscles responded, but slowly. The strength was there, but reduced. Speed, durability, even the raw processing speed of his thoughts — all of it had been dragged down. Dragged down hard. He estimated carefully, running the numbers through his compressed awareness.

Right now he was operating at roughly the level of a peak Universal-realm being. Maybe a little higher in raw toughness, maybe a fraction more durable than a normal Universal at their absolute limit. But nowhere near true Multiversal standards. Not even close. The gap was enormous. It was like going from an ocean to a puddle.

He let out a slow breath through his teeth.

Only one thing remained completely free.

He reached for the Principle of Runes.

Power answered him at once. Clean, sharp, immediate, and fully Multiversal in intensity. The contrast was almost shocking. Everything else had been reduced to Universal level, beaten down and chained. Yet the moment he touched runes, the full weight of his Multiversal cultivation flowed without any resistance at all. No chains. No suppression. No invisible hand pressing down. Just pure, unrestricted power, exactly as it should be.

Runar’s eyes narrowed.

So that’s the rule.

He tested it again to be sure. He fed a small strand of rune power into his right hand. The energy that gathered there was dense enough to crack the ground under his feet if he released it. He could feel it humming against his skin, eager and complete. There was no suppression at all. Not a trace. The ruin’s iron grip simply did not apply here.

He let the power fade and stood there processing the implications. His mind worked through the logic carefully, turning it over from every angle.

This ruin was not just sealed. It was not just protected by a barrier and a lock. It was a filter. A deliberate, carefully designed filter. It stripped away almost every path of power and left only one open. Only one road remained. The deeper someone’s comprehension of runes went, the more strength the ruin would allow them to use. In this place, raw cultivation rank meant far less than mastery of the single permitted principle. A Master with no rune knowledge would be weaker here than a Beginner who truly understood the symbols. The person with the deepest understanding of runes would be the strongest existence inside these walls. No exceptions. No workarounds.

”This ruin just got a hundred times more dangerous,” he muttered.

And he meant it. Outside, raw power settled most disputes. In here, knowledge was the only weapon that mattered. And knowledge could be learned. Stolen. Taken by force from those who already had it.

He checked the rest of his condition methodically. In this new physical form, he carried only the power equivalent of a single universe. One principle remained usable — runes. Everything else was locked behind the suppression. His body was flesh. His speed was limited. His durability was reduced. He was, by every normal measure, dramatically weaker than he had been thirty seconds ago.

Then he noticed something else.

The Eye of Myriad Truths was still open.

It had never closed. The golden-white light still poured from it, steady and unwavering. The ruin’s suppression had not touched it. Not even slightly. The chains that bound his principles, the weight that compressed his universes, the force that dragged his body into matter — none of it reached the Eye. It simply existed, unaffected, as if the suppression did not recognize it as something that needed to be controlled.

”So you can’t suppress my eye,” he said quietly. A small note of surprise in his voice. ”Interesting.”

He focused the Eye on his surroundings and let it truly look.

The ordinary forest changed.

What had looked like normal trees, soil, and filtered sunlight was suddenly revealed as something else entirely. An endless lattice of runes. Every trunk was a towering vertical script, covered in symbols that ran from root to crown. Every leaf carried micro-runes so small that only the Eye could perceive them, shifting and rearranging when the breeze moved them. The ground under his feet was a dense carpet of interlocking symbols, layered so fine and so deep that ordinary perception would never have noticed them. Even the light filtering through the canopy was structured. Each ray carried faint rune pathways, like threads of meaning woven into illumination itself.

The entire environment was constructed from runes. Not decorated with them. Not reinforced by them. Built from them. The trees were runes. The ground was runes. The air was runes. The light was runes. Everything was language, and the language was everything.

A slow breath left him.

”What a great opportunity.”

He meant it fully. For anyone else, this place would be a prison. A restriction. A reduction. For him, with the Eye of Myriad Truths reading every layer and his Principle of Runes operating at full Multiversal strength, this place was a library. An endless, living library written in the only language that mattered here.

He started walking.

There was no path. Only the spaces between the rune-trees, narrow corridors of empty ground winding between the towering trunks. As he moved, he kept the Eye of Myriad Truths fully active, reading everything he passed. Every surface. Every leaf. Every shift in the light. The symbols were ancient, layered, and alive in a way that ordinary inscriptions never were. They did not sit still. They breathed. They adjusted. They responded to the presence of living beings passing near them.

Some governed the local spatial rules — how distance worked here, how direction functioned, how one point connected to another. Others maintained the suppression field itself, anchoring it deep in the root systems of the trees. A few seemed to be recording information, quietly writing the presence and movement of every being that entered this layer. Runar could feel them noting him. Logging his passage. He did not care. Let them record. It changed nothing.

He absorbed them steadily. Each new sequence he understood fed back into his existing rune foundation. And through that foundation, it fed into the many principles currently locked inside him. Even under suppression, even with everything else chained and silent, the feedback loop continued. His comprehension deepened with every step. Every tree he passed taught him something. Every patch of ground added another piece to the picture forming in his mind.

He did not rush. There was no reason to rush. Not yet.

---

Elsewhere in the same forest layer, other newly arrived beings were discovering the same rules the hard way.

An Expert-tier woman who had entered through her own rune comprehension staggered as the suppression landed on her. She dropped to one knee, gasping. Her hands pressed flat against the rune-covered ground. Her face was pale. Her eyes were wide.

”This... this is insane,” she forced out between ragged breaths. ”My principles are almost completely sealed. All of them. Everything except...” She trailed off, reaching for the one thread of power that still responded. Runes. Only runes. ”What is this place?”

A man from one of the early Master delegations slammed a fist into a nearby tree. He put his full reduced strength behind it. The trunk did not break. It did not even shake. It did not splinter or crack or bend. Only a faint rune light flickered across the bark in response, like the tree was mildly annoyed by the contact. The man stared at his fist, then at the tree, then back at his fist again.

”Only runes work,” he growled. ”Everything else is garbage in here. Every technique, every principle, every method I’ve spent millions of years perfecting. Garbage.”

Another Master, calmer than the first, stood perfectly still with his eyes closed. He did not rage. He did not strike anything. He simply stood and felt the suppression settle over him, mapping its boundaries, testing its limits. After several seconds he opened his eyes and spoke in a cold, controlled voice.

”The ruin is testing us. It reduced everyone to the same restricted state. Master or Beginner, it does not matter. Strength will be decided by how deep your rune comprehension goes. Nothing else matters right now. Rank is meaningless here. Only understanding counts.”

A younger Advanced-tier cultivator who had slipped in through one of the open gaps left by the Masters looked around in rising panic. His eyes darted from tree to tree, from face to face. His breathing was too fast. His hands were shaking slightly.

”I only know basic rune structures. The simplest forms. How the hell am I supposed to fight in here? How am I supposed to survive?”

No one answered him. No one even looked at him. He was not worth the attention. In this place, ignorance was not a weakness. It was a death sentence.

Across the forest layer, similar scenes repeated dozens of times. Some beings raged. They screamed at the sky, struck the trees, poured their reduced power into the ground in useless displays of fury. Some immediately sat down cross-legged and began forcing their rune understanding higher, pushing their minds to the limit, trying to learn in hours what normally took millennia. Others started moving carefully through the trees, treating every trunk and every patch of ground as a potential source of insight, reading desperately, hungrily.

A few of the more ruthless ones already looked at their companions with calculating eyes. They stood slightly apart. They watched. They measured. They clearly wondered whether eliminating competition early — permanently — would improve their own odds in whatever came next.

The forest remained quiet on the surface. Birds that were not birds sang in the canopy above. Wind that was not wind moved the rune leaves in soft, rhythmic patterns. The light shifted gently, carrying its hidden scripts through the branches. Yet beneath that peaceful appearance, the first quiet struggles for advantage had already begun. Alliances were forming. Rivalries were sharpening. The seeds of violence were being planted in fertile soil.

---

Runar continued walking at a steady pace. He never stopped reading the environment. The Eye of Myriad Truths peeled back layer after layer of the forest’s construction, revealing deeper structures beneath each one he mastered.

He saw how the suppression field was anchored in the deepest root-runes, buried far below the visible ground. He saw how the light itself carried instructional patterns, teaching those with eyes to read. He saw faint trails left by the beings who had entered before him — residual rune fluctuations that showed their general direction. The Expert woman had gone left. The Master delegation had pushed straight ahead. Vark’s passage had left no trail at all. As if the forest itself had been too afraid to record him.

Runar did not rush.

In a place like this, speed without understanding was just a faster way to die. Every step forward without reading was a step wasted. Every moment spent running was a moment not spent learning. And in this ruin, learning was the only currency that mattered.

The deeper he moved into the forest, the more complex the runes became. The early sequences near the entrance had been foundational. Basic grammar. Simple structures. The equivalent of an alphabet. Now, further in, they carried fragments of higher logic. Pieces of a much larger system that clearly extended far beyond this single layer. The sentences were getting longer. The vocabulary was expanding. The ideas were growing more abstract, more interconnected, more demanding.

The ruin was not a simple trial ground. It was not a dungeon with monsters and treasure. It was a complete world built on rune law, and this forest was only the entrance hall. The foyer. The first page of a very long book.

Runar’s expression stayed calm. His breathing stayed even. His steps stayed measured. But behind the Eye of Myriad Truths, his mind worked at full capacity. Recording. Comparing. Integrating. Filing. Connecting. Building. Every new symbol added to the structure he was assembling. Every new pattern confirmed or corrected his existing theories. The picture in his mind grew clearer with every passing moment.

He had entered this place looking for inheritance and opportunity. He had expected trials. He had expected challenges. He had expected to fight for what he found.

The ruin had answered differently. It had stripped him down to a single path and then surrounded him with more rune knowledge than he had ever seen in one location. More than any library. More than any teacher. More than any single civilization had ever produced. An endless, living text, written into the fabric of reality itself, waiting for someone with the right eyes to read it.

A faint, cold smile touched his lips.

”Fine,” he said softly to the empty forest. His voice was calm. Almost gentle. ”Let’s see how deep this goes.”

He walked on. The golden-white light of his eye illuminated the living runes around him, casting long shadows between the trees. Each step took him deeper. Each step taught him more. Each step made him stronger in the only way that mattered here.

Elsewhere in the same layer, other powerful beings struggled, adapted, or began to hunt under the same iron rules. Some would rise. Some would fall. Some would never make it past this first forest. The ruin did not care. It simply existed, patient and absolute, measuring everyone who walked beneath its canopy.

The first chamber of the ruin had accepted its visitors.

Now it would measure them.
