Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 257: Chapter 258: The Sealed Ruin

Runar accelerated.

The moment he fully released his speed, the void itself seemed to surrender. Space stretched, folded, and compressed around him in continuous, silent waves. What lay ahead did not approach — it was simply left behind. Sectors vanished in streaks of residual light and distorted law. Universe clusters that would have taken ordinary Multiversal beings hours or days to cross disappeared in the space between one breath and the next.

He did not count the sectors carefully. There was no need. His perception registered them in bulk: dense regions packed with competing Universe Wills whose membranes pressed close enough to create permanent storms of conflicting residual energy; vast empty stretches where no stable membrane had formed for eons; ancient scars left by battles so old their leftover principles had begun to fossilize into something almost geological. Billions of sectors flowed past him. Each of those sectors contained well over one hundred million universes. The scale was so extreme that even his mid-Advanced mind treated the numbers as background data rather than something worth dwelling on. The number of universes in the multiverse was truly terrifying.

Time lost meaning. Distance became a suggestion.

While he traveled he kept a small portion of his attention on the permanent link to the clone. The connection remained clear and steady. He could feel the quiet presence of the family compound, the soft background of familiar auras, the occasional flicker of Nyla testing her new system or Celestia analyzing something with quiet intensity. The knowledge that the link held steady was a quiet anchor. He did not linger on it, but he did not close it either.

He also tested the refined Principle of Devour in small, controlled ways as he moved. The principle responded with a smooth, almost eager readiness — far cleaner than the crude version the dragon had used. Where the dragon had simply swallowed, Runar could now feel the subtle distinctions between different types of residual energy, the way certain ancient scars in the void resisted consumption, and the faint traces of principles that had once belonged to beings far stronger than anything the previous sector had contained.

After an unmeasured period of pure velocity, the familiar spatial-chronos signature from the dragon’s memories grew clearer. He was still millions of sectors away from the exact coordinates, yet at his current level that distance was already ”close enough.” Runar locked onto the signature, broke void space with a single thought, and vanished.

He reappeared in silence.

The ancient ruin floated alone in a relatively empty stretch of void. It was larger than many minor universes — a fractured complex of dark stone and unknown metal that seemed both grown and constructed at the same time. Some sections curved with organic fluidity, as if the material had once been alive and had simply decided to stop growing. Others formed precise geometric lattices that rejected the natural chaos of the surrounding void with quiet stubbornness. Layers of eroded runes covered every surface. Even in their damaged state the runes carried a stubborn, quiet authority that pressed lightly against Runar’s senses, like an old master still refusing to acknowledge lesser beings.

The barrier surrounding the entire structure was invisible to ordinary perception, yet absolute. It did not radiate power. It simply refused. The same refusal that had completely rejected a Void Devouring Dragon’s repeated attempts to force entry still hung in place, untouched by time.

Runar drifted closer until he hovered a short distance from the barrier. He sat cross-legged in the void, dark robes settling around him, and closed his ordinary eyes.

Then he opened the other one.

The fully evolved eye activated.

During the quiet months with his family he had tested countless variations. He had taken the original Eye of Genesis and systematically merged principles into it — space, time, truth, perception, judgment, order, and hundreds more — adjusting ratios and combinations until the mixture stabilized into something far beyond its previous form. The final result was no longer an eye that merely observed creation. It was an eye that dissected truth itself.

He had named it the Eye of Myriad Truths.

The first time he tested an early version of it, the reaction had been... memorable.

Flashback – Willith’s Universe, months earlier

The moment the incomplete eye opened, every law in the surrounding region of Willith’s universe shuddered. Conceptual weight poured outward in a silent wave that made distant stars dim and several of Willith’s carefully maintained secondary formations crack with sharp, protesting sounds.

Willith’s full presence slammed into existence in front of him, her projection sharper and more solid than usual. Her eyes were wide with genuine shock.

”What did you just do?!”

Runar blinked, the experimental eye still glowing faintly. ”Testing a new variation. Why? Is something wrong?”

”Why?” Willith’s voice rose a full octave. ”You nearly destabilized a tenth of my outer laws, rules and principles! Get out. Now. Test that thing outside my universe.”

She reached out with her authority as Universe Will, intending to forcibly eject him the same way she had handled him before and other lesser threats for epochs.

Runar felt the pressure settle around him and raised an eyebrow. A faint, teasing smile appeared on his lips.

”You know, you cant throw me out like last time.” he said mildly, ”if I didn’t feel like cooperating, you wouldn’t be able to kick me out. I could kick you out of your own universe instead.”

Willith stared at him.

For a long second she said nothing. The conceptual weight of the half-formed eye still pressed against her origin. Then she let out a sharp, disbelieving breath that was half laugh and half exasperation.

”You really are a monster,” she muttered. ”Fine. Please. I am begging you. Leave. And don’t open that eye again until you’re far away from any membrane I manage.”

Runar had laughed quietly — the sound light and completely unbothered — and complied, vanishing from her universe before the residual cracks could spread any further.

Back in the present, the fully refined Eye of Myriad Truths opened without any uncontrolled leakage. Golden-white light layered with deeper conceptual radiance shone from it. The ancient runes across the ruin’s surface immediately reacted.

They began to unfold.

Not quickly. Not all at once. Layer by layer, under the focused gaze of the eye, the runes slowly revealed deeper structures — foundational logic, interlocking principles, and fragments of intent left behind by whatever being had created them. The complexity was staggering. Even with the Eye of Myriad Truths and his current comprehension speed, the progress remained deliberate and measured.

Runar’s expression stayed calm, but a quiet note of genuine respect entered his thoughts.

’Even with this eye... even with everything I currently am... the progress is still slow.’

He continued reading, unhurried, letting the runes peel themselves open under his gaze one careful layer at a time.

’I can’t imagine how powerful the owner of this ruin must have been.’

A faint, almost amused thought followed.

’And that stupid dragon just tried to bite its way through. No wonder it never got in.’

The void around him remained silent. The barrier still stood. The runes continued their gradual unfolding under the light of the Eye of Myriad Truths, revealing more of their ancient, stubborn secrets with every passing moment.

The first true trial of his wider journey had begun.
