Chapter 1399: Chapter 146: Care Day

The dog is here, the dog is here, Gouzi came out wagging its tail.

Its face wore a pleasing smile, its tail spinning like a large windmill.

The dog ran, the dog ran, Gouzi ran away with its tail between its legs.

Its shrill cries, like those of a little girl who has seen a ghost.

...

Zheng Qing was pondering his little poem inwardly, with drooping eyelids, standing obediently slightly behind Su Shijun, hardly daring to breathe. A similar demeanor was shared by another little fox lady in the room.

They couldn’t help but be nervous.

After deploying charm to lure Gouzi out again, Su Shijun this time did not resort to gentle means of scratching Gouzi’s ears but swiftly waved her hand.

Zheng Qing only saw a flash of cold light, and Gouzi screamed before vanishing again in the office.

”Is it... okay?” The young cost student asked with some apprehension, fearing to hear some frightening words from the witch.

”Am I that cruel?” Su Shijun turned her head, her face adorned with a warm smile.

Zheng Qing decisively shook his head.

With slight boredom, the witch ’tch’ed, spreading her hands towards the boy.

In her palm, a drop of crimson blood rolled, encapsulated in a semi-transparent magic barrier, reminiscent of an insect amber that swallowed blood mosquitoes, involuntary invoking the verse ’glass bell, rich amber, tiny trough wine drips true red.’

”This is...” Zheng Qing was a bit uncertain.

”A drop of blood taken from its body.” Su Shijun answered lazily—Zheng Qing very much suspected that if he were not present, she would certainly show off her three fluffy tails proudly—her tone slightly triumphant, ”Since it refused the respectful drink, it had to drink the penalty wine.”

Zheng Qing recalled the fleeting cold flash from earlier, trying hard to recreate the scene in his mind, then he faintly sensed a claw-like phantom flashing by.

That must be a magic attached to a small knife, the boy comforted himself inwardly, somewhat frantically glancing at Su Shijun’s fair, slender fingers, trying hard to clear some terrifying thoughts from his mind.

Su Shijun paid no mind to the nervous warlock and little maid beside her. She pulled out a glass vial from thin air, stuffed the ’amber’ into it, sealed it with a cork, and then tossed the vial into Zheng Qing’s arms.

The warlock clumsily caught it.

”Why hasn’t it disappeared?” The boy asked subconsciously. Both Jiang Yu and Su Shijun had previously plucked a few hairs from Gouzi, but they disappeared along with Gouzi into the air.

Seeing a drop of crimson blood now gave him an unreal feeling.

”Just a bit of a Big Wizard’s prowess,” the witch replied nonchalantly, ”That little dog is slippery, but only to an extent... Taking something from it isn’t too difficult if one gets a bit serious.”

Only a Big Wizard could say such words confidently, Zheng Qing thought enviously.

Then he looked at the vial in his hand.

”This,” the warlock held the vial as if holding a hot potato, ”this thing... where should I place it?”

While speaking, he looked around, seemingly searching the office for a suitable experiment stand to place the vial.

But Su Shijun’s next response shattered his illusion.

”Don’t you have a spatial bag? Just shove it in there,” Su Shijun stretched her arms, yawned, and showed off her graceful figure, ”Or you could keep holding it, just be careful not to drop and shatter it on the floor.”

Zheng Qing looked down at the grey cloth bag hanging at his waist.

”Then what?”

”Then? Didn’t you want to know Gouzi’s origins? You can ask a professional agency for help with that!”

”Isn’t this place a lab?”

”Fellow student, this is the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab, which is for validating dimension theory... it’s completely different from what you’re trying to do!”

”I don’t know... I mean, you are the Big Wizard, you certainly must know where it can be tested, right?”

”That’s very rude, how can you speak to the lady like that?!” Su Ya pointed her finger sharply and poked Zheng Qing in the chest—Zheng Qing felt she aimed for his face, but due to her height, only reached his chest.

Zheng Qing glanced down at the Little fox lady.

Her fox ears hidden in her hair and the little tail beneath her skirt had been retracted, and she was once again a dignified maid.

”Grown-ups are speaking, children should not interrupt.” The Warlock kindly patted her head, then pulled out a hawthorn candy from the Grey Cloth Bag and placed it in her hand.

Su Ya quickly took the candy and sneaked a peek at the lady.

Su Shijun had already sat back down behind the desk, picking up the laboratory reports to read as if completely unaware of the small actions between them.

”Cough cough,” the Little fox lady let out a dry cough, still poked Zheng Qing’s chest—though with much less force than before—and said in a seasoned tone, ”Mind your manners. Sitting in front of you is the master of Greenhill Mansion, the Upper House Member of the Moon Council, a distinguished professor from the First University... You must be polite.”

Zheng Qing sighed deeply, wistfully looking at the Witch behind the desk.

Su Shijun, holding a Feather Pen, was editing the experiment reports and after a while, looked up in surprise, ”Oh... are you still here? I thought you had left.”

Heh heh.

Zheng Qing chuckled dryly in his heart.

I’ll take that as you being serious.

”You still haven’t told me how it should be checked.” The Warlock repeated his previous question.

”Your Professor Yao is very familiar with those peculiar creatures.”

”Dean Yao has been quite busy lately.” Zheng Qing forced a smile. It was precisely to avoid meeting Old Yao that he came to Su Shijun. If he had to go back to Old Yao because of this drop of blood, then why bother coming here!

”What about Professor Yi? He is your Divination professor, correct?”

”The professors have all been busy with other affairs recently... Several classes have been led by assistants for review.”

”I remember I wrote you a letter of introduction before,” Su Shijun twirled the Feather Pen in her hand, offering a third option: ”Professor Montreya is one of the most authoritative scholars at First University studying bloodlines and exotic creatures. If even he is unclear, then I can’t think of anyone else.”

...

...

After resolving the issue of testing Gouzi’s blood, Zheng Qing didn’t leave immediately.

Since it was already very late, and the library and study rooms would definitely be full, he shamelessly used this excuse to squat in Su Shijun’s office for a while to do practice problems—regarding the seat Xiao Xiao had reserved earlier, Zheng Qing very shamelessly ’forgot’ about it.

Having a fragrant office to sit in, with fruit snacks, tea, and a little maid serving him, he’d have to be out of his mind to choose the crowded, oppressive library.

When he returned to the dorm that night, it was already after nine.

Zheng Qing felt like he had run a marathon, utterly exhausted.

But just as he had lain down under his mosquito net, not quite fully rested, Xiao Xiao woke him up: ”Wake up, dorm leader... Tomorrow is Care Day, our dorm needs to submit a theme report, you come up with a theme for Care Day!”
