High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1384: Chapter 131 Under the Tree

Summer rainstorms tend to be brief.

When Zheng Qing left the study room and came outside, the sky had already cleared. The orange sun hid behind thin clouds, resembling a fully ripened orange.

The air was pervaded with a fresh scent after the rain, mixed with the gradually steaming atmosphere, slightly easing the unease in his chest.

”Slow down,” the witch whispered from behind: ”The path is slippery after the rain.”

Zheng Qing turned around, the confusion in his eyes somewhat dissipated.

It was at this moment that Zheng Qing realized that he had been gripping Jiang Yu’s wrist the whole time.

”Sor...Sorry!” The warlock’s hand withdrew as if stung by a wasp, his face turning quickly red as he stuttered an explanation: ”Just now, I was... I was just in a rush... It wasn’t on purpose.”

Having just woken from a dream, for some reason, his mind short-circuited, and after jumping off the rotunda chair, he began dragging Jiang Yu out of the study. The others sat dumbfounded in their seats, seemingly unable to react at the moment—Li Meng, who was explaining the problem to Jiang Yu, might have understood, but she was only too glad to stay away from her cousin, so naturally, she kept silent.

At that moment, Zheng Qing had a simple thought: go to the Cat Fruit Tree, catch the wizard who was creating chaos on the Black Cat Throne, and if possible, best to deliver him to a gray-robed janitor or a professor.

Dragging Jiang Yu along was because Jiang Yu also had a little ”share” of that ”throne,” and the warlock felt she should be brought along.

But once he was out of the study room, the soft breeze after the rain blew over, instantly sobering up the young sponsored student.

What was he doing?!

It was just a dream! His reaction was way too intense!

Even if the dream was real, there was no need for such haste, let alone the fact that he had grabbed Jiang Yu’s hand and run out in full view of everyone—Zheng Qing could entirely imagine the jeers he would face tonight when he returned to the dormitory, and if he was unlucky, he would feel the storm of ridicule at the class meeting in the evening.

The young sponsored student frowned as if he had just eaten a raw bitter melon.

Perhaps because she ran with the warlock a bit too hastily, Jiang Yu’s cheeks were slightly flushed, and her breathing uneven. She steadied herself and then rubbed her wrist, smiling lightly: ”It’s alright... Did something urgent come up? Is it related to Sister Korma?”

Because she had previously encountered the projection of the Outer God and the Black Wizard together with Zheng Qing in the North District, and with the recent newspapers buzzing with various news related to the Outer God, seeing Zheng Qing’s hurried manner, her first reaction was that something happened in the North District.

”No, it’s not that.”

Zheng Qing quickly waved his hand, explaining, ”It’s about the Cat Fruit Tree...”

Before he finished, he immediately regretted it.

Although Jiang Yu knew he was the Black Cat, and he guessed that Jiang Yu was the Little White Cat, the two had a tacit understanding and never directly discussed this topic—it made their interactions more relaxed when they turned into cats.

Sure enough, hearing the warlock’s explanation, the flush on Jiang Yu’s cheeks crept up again.

”The Cat Fruit Tree?” The witch pursed her lips, trying hard to look nonchalant: ”Is there a problem with the Cat Fruit Tree? I even checked it out while I was running this morning... Everything seemed normal.”

”I’m not too sure either... I accidentally fell asleep while doing the problems, and then I had a dream, I dreamed that someone was tampering with the Cat Fruit Tree... it was where I usually, um, cough cough, um, lie down...” Aiyo! Snap!

Zheng Qing was so wrapped up in trying to find the right words to explain his actions to the witch that he accidentally stepped into a puddle on the road, splashing his leg with mud.

He couldn’t help but curse under his breath.

Yet it was unclear whether he was cursing the puddle or himself.

Jiang Yu pursed her lips with a smile, pulled out her magic book, and softly chanted, ”Bright sun rises, gentle valley winds!”

Orange magic light emerged from the witch’s blue magic book, like a visible ’sun wind’, swirling past the wizard’s shoes and the hem of his robe that were wet with mud.

In a moment, Zheng Qing felt a comfortable dryness.

He stamped his feet and shook off the dry mud from his robe. The grayish-white dust rose, met the damp air, and disappeared without a trace in an instant.

”That’s fine, that’s fine already,” he stopped the witch who was about to cast another Cleaning Spell, laughing, ”A little dirt, a few more steps and it will all shake off... Let’s hurry to the Cat Fruit Tree... um, are you coming?”

Jiang Yu smiled, said nothing, but put away her magic book and quickened her pace, walking in front of Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing scratched his head and cursed himself in his mind again. He had dragged her out here, and he was still asking if she was coming? Ridiculously stupid.

After the rain in summer, it was refreshing and yet grand.

With the oppressive black clouds gone, the sky looked vast and open, and flocks of birds carrying the orange sunshine flitted across the sky, leaving behind a trail of crisp chirping. On both sides of the blue stone pavement, rain-soaked grass blades clung to the earth and branches, their fuzz reflecting the sunlight, twinkling with enchanting seven-colored radiance.

Young male and female wizards, inspired by the beauty, left their oppressive study rooms and libraries, came to the lake, to the grassland, greedily enjoying the short-lived freedom they had missed.

Along the way, Zheng Qing saw no fewer than ten pairs of male and female wizards pass by, hand in hand.

Most of the time, the passing witches would show a bit of shyness, while the warlocks would brazenly wink at the passersby, signaling Zheng Qing to be a bit braver.

The awkwardness forced the two young wizards to quicken their pace much more.

Now, not only Zheng Qing but also Jiang Yu accidentally stepped into several small puddles. But they were both too rushed to tidy up, and it wasn’t until they’d run to the base of the Cat Fruit Tree that they both let out a sigh of relief in unison.

Smelling the familiar scent, the Cat Fruits poked their heads out from the branches. The timid ones quivered their whiskers and ears at Zheng Qing, while the bold ones meowed at him twice without reserve.

Zheng Qing looked up at his ’throne’.

It was clean and there wasn’t a wizard in a pale white robe causing trouble.

”Maybe I’m just too sensitive,” the young funded student let out a sigh of relief and smiled at Jiang Yu, ”Now that I think about it, in the dream, the sky was darker when the wizard climbed the tree, and it didn’t seem to be raining... Even if it’s true, it doesn’t have to be something that happened today.”

Jiang Yu first used a Cleaning Spell and Drying Spell to tidy up their robes.

Then she put away her magic book and looked at the Cat Fruit Tree.

”What about that dog that barks like a cat?” she went for the simplest breakthrough, ”Didn’t you dream that it was caught? Find it, and we’ll know the truth of the matter.”
