High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1351: Chapter 98: Priorities and Urgencies

Prophecy, a prediction or assertion about what is about to happen in the future.

Diviners often conceal the conclusions they derive from inspiration and calculation, revealing them only to a few key figures in an attempt to minimally interfere with destiny while maximizing their benefits.

In the past week, Zheng Qing heard two prophecies.

The Wandering Fishman Tribe Priest in the Quankela Fair told him that the threat comes from the depths of the starry sky, where all things wither in evil, causing the world to shudder.

And Mister informed Zheng Qing in a dream that all things would happen in the second May.

”The second May,” Xiao Xiao calculated thoughtfully, nodding, ”This year has an intercalary month; the beginning of June is indeed the second May.”

”So, do you plan to follow that prophecy’s arrangement and go back to the World in the Mirror to rescue Zhu Si on the first weekend of June?” Xin Fat Man pulled out a dirty handkerchief, blew his nose vigorously, his eyes slightly reddened.

Among all the listeners, he was the most emotional.

Perhaps this is related to his identity as a journalist—often interviewing others, always needing an empathy beyond ordinary people, so as not to become numb from the trivial worries of the world.

”I think we can go rescue him right now!” Lin Guo, the youngest and most impulsive, exclaimed.

”You can’t even save your own sheep, so don’t make a mess.” Zhang Ji Xin bluntly dismissed Lin Guo’s idea of rushing into the World in the Mirror and warned the others, ”The dangers of the World in the Mirror are known to anyone with a bit of common sense... Does anyone not know about not looking into mirrors at midnight? If we rush in unprepared, whether we can all come out unscathed is a question, let alone rescuing someone.”

”Looking before and after.” Blue Bird glanced at him and stood behind Lin Guo.

Zhang Ji Xin’s face instantly turned purple.

”Am I that kind of person?” he shouted, his fingers making a snapping sound.

”No, of course not.” Zheng Qing said with a wry smile, stepping between him and Blue Bird, repeatedly comforting, ”On last year’s school chartered flight, you were the first freshman to stand up against Nikita... If that’s also considered cowardice, there are no brave people in the world.”

”Blue Bird didn’t say the Elder is cowardly.” Dylan’s eerie voice emerged above the young student’s head as he hung from the pavilion’s crossbeam, appearing quite content, ”Or is that the term you just thought of deep down to describe the Elder?”

”Shut up!” Zheng Qing looked up angrily at Dylan’s meddling.

The Blood Werewolf Mister showed an aggrieved expression, raising his hand to his mouth and miming a zipping motion.

”So, what are you planning?” Xiao Xiao might be short, but he holds great authority within the Hunting Team. When he spoke, everyone, including Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin, shut up and looked at Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing took a deep breath.

Raising his hand, he drew a large circle as if encompassing the whole school.

”Chaos reigns.” He gestured, emphasizing, ”Like now... the ’guest’ from the depths of the starry sky in the prophecy, Lin Guo’s lost Black Mountain Goat, No Face Demon disguised as Liu Fei Fei’s pet, Zhu Si trapped in the mirror, the conflict between Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy, the unrest among the Fishmen, even including the thing the school quietly manipulates in Black Prison... Everything is in total chaos.”

”Doesn’t the school have the ability to stop all this?” He seemed to be asking himself, yet also inquiring everyone.

Everyone shook their heads without agreement.

”I see.” Zheng Qing nodded in satisfaction, ”The school has the most powerful force in the Wizard World, countless skilled diviners, and law-enforcement power comparable to the Trident Sword... I don’t believe the school would ignore anything that threatens the safety of the students.”

”So,” the young cost student extended his palm and then bent his fingers back one by one, ”what can be left to the school, we leave to the school... what we don’t need to worry about, we don’t worry about... like conflicts between academies, that Faceless Demon, or guests from the depths of the starry sky.”

”Those related to us and that the school is reluctant to handle are the focus of our next tasks.”

”The lost sheep of Lin Guo and Zhu Si,” Xiao Xiao continued.

”Yes, just these two things,” Zheng Qing nodded.

Xin Fat Man stroked his chin: ”If we follow the prophecy, the matter with Zhu Si still has half a month... So now, the only thing left is helping Lin Guo find his sheep, right?”

”This way, things are pretty straightforward,” Zhang Ji Xin obviously breathed a sigh of relief. As the end of the term neared, aside from his heavy studies, he also had to help his brother campaign for the chairman of the Sacred Will, being busy all day and having very limited time to devote to the Absolution Hunting Team.

”To be precise, it’s half a task,” Zheng Qing thought of the prophecy related to Lin Guo’s Black Mountain Goat and the recent school outbreak of the sheep milk incident and felt somewhat depressed again: ”... Finding the sheep alone is not enough for us. We must get the School Works Committee involved.”

”That’s very difficult,” Xiao Xiao shook his head, ”Getting those bureaucratic departments to move faster, even Merlin’s spells don’t work... They have their own rules.”

...

Hunting Team Training concluded, and it was nearly three o’clock in the afternoon.

Unlike usual, Zheng Qing didn’t go to the library to review his lessons but dragged Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man to the Pedestrian Street instead.

He bought a new suitcase and filled it with various snacks, candies, magic toys that kids like, magic materials, and a few new robes.

”Have you been possessed by a Hamster spirit?” Xiao Xiao had been watching Zheng Qing’s actions since a while ago, puzzled, ”Did these things really require a special trip to Pedestrian Street?”

”You never know when and what things will be useful,” Zheng Qing sighed deeply.

These were items he bought for Zhu Si.

Even if there was a low possibility that the little witch would use them the next time they met, the young man still couldn’t help wanting to do something.

It gave him some peace of mind.

”Beef jerky could use a bit more stuffing, all flavors needed. Soda biscuits break easily, Allah bars are much harder. Also, yogurt has a short shelf life, switching to dry milk slices would be more suitable,” Xin Fat Man continuously gave suggestions on the side: ”Trust me, I am more professional when it comes to selecting and preserving snacks.”

Zheng Qing humbly accepted the aforementioned advice.

”Did you guys notice that Wandering Bar is closed today?” Xiao Xiao’s attention shifted from Zheng Qing’s suitcase to something more important: ”Did the Wandering Wizard go out?”

Zheng Qing glanced at the Wandering Bar at the end of the street.

On weekends, it was usually the busiest time for Wandering Bar with the most customer flow. However, today, for some unknown reason, there was a large sign hanging at the entrance of Wandering Bar saying ’Closed for Rest’.

Usually squatting at the door to collect tokens, the big toad had turned into a stone sculpture, lifeless, with its mouth tightly shut. Who knew where it went off to play.

Many young wizards from First University came in high spirits but left in disappointment. Many of them, short-tempered, even cursed under their breath, about the Wandering Bar’s closure today.
