High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1389: Chapter 136: Successive Scares

Professor Yao and most of the students in the class had their eyes on the dog that appeared unannounced.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yu and Xiao Xiao turned their gaze towards Zheng Qing.

Because both of them knew the origin of this dog, especially Jiang Yu, who had witnessed with her own eyes beneath the Cat Fruit Tree in the afternoon, the dog turning into a shadow and disappearing into the grass.

Just like the two, Zheng Qing was also puzzled at this moment.

”Whose dog is this?!” Professor Yao raised his voice and asked.

The classroom was silent, no one willing to admit their connection with this strange dog. However, a few gazes swept back and forth over Zheng Qing, but the young government-sponsored student remained stern-faced throughout, not showing any sign of recognizing it.

”Don’t make me take it to the School Works Committee for confirmation,” the professor slightly emphasized, which made the already somewhat oppressive atmosphere in the classroom even more suffocating.

After a moment, the classroom was still silent.

The students’ eyes stealthily wandered between the dog and the professor. The dog seemed to sense the ominous air, as it coiled its happily wagging tail and sat on its haunches, its small black eyes gleaming as it looked around innocently.

Finally, Professor Yao couldn’t hold back—he couldn’t let a mysterious little dog disrupt the class’s normal meeting—he removed the pipe from his mouth and tapped the lectern with the bowl of the pipe:

”Ge Zhitianxi!”

Several green streaks erupted from the lectern, swirling around in mid-air like venomous snakes sniffing out something delicious, and rushed towards the little dog sitting in the corner of the classroom.

Zheng Qing had no time to react, only seeing flashes of green light before him.

”Pop...”

When the vines tightened, they made a crisp bursting noise, as if someone had snapped their fingers, causing everyone who heard it to involuntarily shiver. Both the professor’s sudden action and these somewhat rough capture methods seemed quite unusual.

But what was even more astonishing was that Professor Yao had missed.

Although the vines were fast, they still grasped at empty air. The little dog turned into a shadowy figure at the moment the vines touched it and disappeared from everyone’s sight. The air still carried the sound of its panicked ’meows’.

Zheng Qing’s vision blurred.

Just a moment ago, Professor Yao had been standing on the lectern, and the next moment, he appeared in front of the windowsill. The vines summoned by the binding spells dissipated into specks of green light with his arrival. The professor was looking down, closely examining the traces left by the dog on the windowsill, his expression somewhat serious.

”Professor?” Class President Tang Dun’s slightly anxious voice rang out in the classroom.

Professor Yao, as if he hadn’t heard, frowned deeply. Due to the close distance, Zheng Qing faintly saw the professor’s nostrils flaring slightly. This discovery made his throat feel somewhat dry.

The young wizard shifted uncomfortably in his seat, looking around. Many people were whispering to each other, quietly discussing the origin of the little dog. Xiao Xiao was taking notes on the side, and Jiang Yu was embracing Li Meng’s shoulders, whispering something into her ear.

”Professor!” Tang Dun raised his voice slightly.

”Hmm?” Professor Yao finally snapped back to reality, glanced at Tang Dun, then noticed the somewhat restless atmosphere in the class. He smiled softly, walked away from the windowsill, and took a few steps forward.

Just standing next to Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing held his breath.

”How curious an item... It used a very clever space magic to escape the Binding Spell,” the Professor showed no embarrassment on his face after being outwitted by the small dog, instead, he revealed his usual smiling face: ”So here comes the question: If you were in the position of that small dog just now, facing a sudden ’Binding Spell,’ what should you do?”

While speaking, he put the pipe back into his mouth, liberating a hand to casually pat on the shoulder of the young scholarship student twice:

”Zheng Qing, you answer this question.”

The young wizard felt his legs go weak, he licked his dry lips and propped himself up with his arms, responding softly: ”It peaches are red and lush.”

”Very good! If this were a practical exam, you would already have scored half of the points.”

The Professor happily patted the shoulder of the young wizard, signaling him to sit down, and then briskly walked back to the podium, continuing the lecture that was interrupted a few minutes ago:

”The remaining half? That would be to accurately use the corresponding spell... I have emphasized before, the final exam is less than ten days away. You must seize this crucial moment. As the saying goes, sharpening your axe will not delay your job of cutting wood... It may be difficult for you to remember the complex processes and formulas of Magic Potions in ten days, but ten days is enough to increase your proficiency in the spells you’ve learned this academic year by a few percentage points...”

Thus, Professor Yao casually moved past the topic of the small dog, launching into a discussion on how to make the most of the remaining time before the finals to improve scores in the Curse Course.

Zheng Qing was listening distractedly.

On one hand, because Professor Yao had just patted his shoulder, leaving him a bit short of breath to this moment. On the other hand, the way Gouzi disappeared was just like before under the Cat Fruit Tree, adding a few shadows in his heart.

Why did the small dog appear in the classroom? Was it tracking him, or Jiang Yu? Or was it merely a coincidence? Did Professor Yao discover something? What did he mean by standing next to him? Was it a warning not to reveal his identity to others, or had he already sensed some connection between that dog and himself?

One question after another popped up in the wizard’s mind, each being overwhelmed by the next. The Professor’s voice was loud from the podium, every word clear, but he couldn’t understand the underlying meaning of his words.

In this manner, Zheng Qing muddled through the entire weekend meeting.

At night back in the dormitory, Xiao Xiao tried to discuss the matter of the small dog with Zheng Qing, but the young wizard evaded the conversation. Aside from knowing that the dog often went to the Cat Fruit Tree, could meow, turn into an ethereal shadow to disappear, and had bitten him, Zheng Qing did not know much else.

Banna, however, was very interested in the small dog—but only out of a journalist’s curiosity for odd news, and he didn’t plan to waste much time on a meowing small dog during such a critical moment of the term end.

After lights out, Xiao Xiao was still quietly speculating about the origin of the small dog with Fatty.

Zheng Qing squinted his eyes, staring at the dark tent top, his thoughts gradually becoming chaotic, yet his senses becoming sharper—in the darkness, he slowly began to hear the uneven breathing of his roommates, heard the Sprites fluttering their wings mid-air, and heard Fat Cat smacking his lips while snoring.

Then, at a certain moment, the young scholarship student suddenly opened his eyes and pulled open the tent.

Outside the tent.

Three pairs of green eyes were shining brightly in the dark dormitory.

”Ah!!!”

The young wizard screamed in fright.

The dorm suddenly lit up.
